So /agdg/, ive finished my game. How do I get people to play it? I tried making a trailer for it and posting it, but I didn't get any response.

This is the trailer:

This is a download to the game:

What am I doing wrong?

>1. Make a great game.

>2. Upload it for free to as many shitty game-hosting websites as possible (bonus points if it can run in a browser).

>3. Bathe in ad-revenue and beautiful women.

It seems like you didn't follow through on the first step (no offence). Fellow game developers can tell that you put a lot of work into your game and that it probably took several months to complete, but the only thing your audience can see is memes plastered on a barebones copy of Doom. If I were you I would work improving the current game before moving on to step 2.

Very good points. I suppose you're right about it, i'll have to come back with something better.

Maybe having a website would help, even just a single page with a description of the game, the trailer video and a download link. Without a website and a name, you can't build a reputation. Not many people will be bothered going to some mega link for a game they've never heard about before, written by some person they've never heard about before.

Look at this: http://www.columbinegame.com/

Pretty basic setup, but they give you a feel of the game without needing to download and run anything. And it's all there on one page, so anyone who wants to mention this game only needs to post that link.

I played the game, and it's pretty average. People don't play bad games. It's fine for your first game though. Most developers never even get as far as a first release, so just making a release is a good thing. The next thing to do is to improve your skill as a developer and release more games. An important thing to know is that it is extremely rare for a developer's first release to become famous, or to be any good for that matter.

Here's 2 of Notch's earlier games:
