Welcome to AGDG, have you ever made a game?

I'm trying to find some nes samples for some music I'm making with nanoloop on my android. However so far I've found drums and just single waves and no instruments or anything like that, can you guys help me out?

Have you tried to extract the samples from a nes soundfont?

You could download famitracker and an example tune, then try their instruments and record them with audacity.

What are you looking for, exactly?

I remember some emulator a long time ago, maybe Nesticle, maybe something older, that would let you tick each of the four sound channels and mix and match as you please. Also had WAV output and simple sampling settings like KHz, etc.

That would let you play any section you want to sample and export sound effects, etc. However, I thought of something easier.

I used to use WinAmp to play NSF files with an NSF extension. Then WinAmp also supports a WAV export function. Most NSF files I found included all sound effects after the music.

I love the NES and would be willing to help with this project if you give me more details.

Just use Famitracker or Nerdtracker and make the instrument you want. Then play it in one of the channels, output as WAV and import into nanoloop.

NES uses generative waveforms as opposed to samples. This means the music is an output of mathematical functions, and not samples played at different pitches.

The reason it's hard to find instrument samples is because instruments aren't a real concept on the NES. In fact, did you know that every company had to write its own sound format on the NES? Crazy shit!

Fortunately the trackers make this easy. Follow a tutorial if the process is confusing. Not loading a sample is counterintuitive at first. But generative waveforms are what gave systems back in the day that warm, crunchy sound we all love.

- Find XM/MOD music tracks of old games you want the instruments from (people make stuff like this all the time, music from things like SNES, etc)

- Rip wav samples from them using MilkyTracker

- You now have their wave samples

Necrobumping this.

Here OP have a pack of 230 dmc samples from various games. You could find them helpfull.

Keep in mind you need famitracker to import them. And you could also try making your own samples froms intruments too.

Random question. What is the legality to using samples from other games and stuff? Would it technically be possible to sue or would the simplicity of the instruments just be too basic for there to be any real repercussions against?

Anything that gets too big is a problem. If your game becomes viral sensation tier, everything in it will be examined. This is especially true for anything that is easily recognizable.

That said, ripping off songs and melodies are what would get you in trouble but not so much individual sounds. The reason why is that individual sounds are too dubious even if they sound similar to something used in something famous. What's recognizable is what's produced with them.

If it's simple, then you should re-create it yourself with ease. If you can't, then it's not simple and that's probably something you can get sued over.

Sampling is covered by fair use laws.

Shit, niggers and vaporwave faggots literally just playback entire tracks at a lower speed and they actually get away with selling that shit.
