Ludum dare starting tommorow and theres no thread?

Ludum Dare thread

Eh, I'm kind of burned out from Ludum Dare. They should really make it a yearly or half-yearly if that's a word jam instead of 4 times a year.

Bi-annual is half yearly and yeah. It should be less common.

I never got these lundum dare things, are they like mini competitions where everyone puts their game, and every contestant plays and votes for the best? Do you win prizes or what? Are there time limits to developing?

I just don't see the point, I always have fun making games and a passion for them, but I don't see reason to shit out a bad/simple game every month. Even for learning you'd still get experience working on a single game for a year.

>inb4 google it

Well, should had worded myself better, I know it's some sort of competition, but I just don't see why people would waste time creating simple games based on someone else's theme, and every month, waste of time in my opinion, you could be working on something you'd like for entire months instead.

Jams are just fun, they're a good way to take a break from a main project, and generally they'll teach you a lot - that's why I do them, anyway

I don't know anything about Ludum specifically though or why people like it in particular, I've never used it

It's a good practice. In general, working under restrictions teaches how to actually finish stuff, how to find practical solutions, how to plan and stick to the plan. Most "main projects" are never ever getting finished because people don't know how to do that.

ArtFag here, what if all I have to contribute is bad 3d models? Is there a way to participate? Or is this like a NoDev only kind of thing?

413c7d No.24374

>>24361

It's a good challenge for yourself. Try to make a better game than the other people in only 2 days.

It also gives you a fair amount of attention if you get to the top.

62880a No.24387

>>24372

either join someone or do everything yourself, anon. you won't finish the game either way.

Spend a week or two on familiarizing yourself with love2d or game maker

You gamedev nao

Seriously, this should be enough for jams

There is always going to be a designerfag looking for an artfag. I'd suggest trying to find someone to join.

Can you make shapeships, turrets, etc? :^)

Meh, fuggit, I'll set Blender tutorials aside long enough to play with the Unreal engine. Been meaning to do that anyways.

Spaceships and turrets you say?

This one's for you, anon. Custom ship and turret models imported to UE 4.10. Using all the blueprint pre-fab stuff including controls, but for a single days work I am happy. :^)
