Welcome to AGDG, have you ever made a game?

Has anybody used the Wave engine before? Is it good for 3D games compared to engines like Unity or Unreal?

I'm trying to find the right 3D to make a game but there's something wrong with every one I try:

>Unity holds features hostage behind a ridiculous price and carries the stigma of being "just another low-effort Unity game"

>Unreal has easily the most obnoxious launcher I have ever seem in a modern program, requires 5% of your game's revenue, and uses fucking C++

>Godot is great for 2D but the 3D engine is a bit too basic at the moment

The only immediate problems I can see with Wave just by looking at their website is that it's closed-source and requires all games made with it to put their logo in the splash screen, but it's free and doesn't charge revenue so I can't really complain. Still, I would like to hear other anon's opinions before trying to learn a whole new engine.

Judging by wave's website, it's used only in a one single real game and not a 3D one.

Also, why are you so worried about revenue share, are you already expecting to make millions with your game so those five percent will really be a problem?

>are you already expecting to make millions with your game so those five percent will really be a problem?

Would it be a problem even then?

Out of the 1,000,000 you'd still be left with 950,000. It's very hard to spend all of that unless you immediately start buying something ridiculously expensive like a 12 year old with no concept of money management whatsoever.

>carries the stigma

Why the fuck would you care? You don't have to plaster Unity's name all over your game you know.

>obnoxious launcher

This would really stop you from using an otherwise superior game engine? The first 10 seconds of starting up the program?

Unity Pro itself is $1,500 or $75/month and unless you absolutely need something like Analyctics Pro or Game Performance Reporting, you can just develop it entirely in freebie edition and pay the price when about to release so you can change the splash. You don't even need to pay until you've grossed like $100k which by that point $1,500 would be like a drop in the bucket. It doesn't even demand revenue.

Should probably mention too, but this is as of Unity 5 or so I think. That's where they made the free version have stuff like profiling or certain light effects or whatever. Before then yeah, there were a few features locked away.

And the issue with C++ is what, exactly?

Are you fucking retarded? Unity has been completely free for months

This looks interesting; I'm also looking for game engines with linux support. Once I get everything set up I'll see how well it works.

>Godot is great for 2D but the 3D engine is a bit too basic at the moment

I thought the same thing. While it's definitely a decent engine, it really needs more functionality and support when it comes to the 3D side of things. Also, it lacks complete documentation.
