>this nukening explains the sudden UID drop.

No. The spam thread Anon said he left BECAUSE there is a UID drop. Even after he deleted them, the UIDs pretty much stayed the same.

323f3f No.2543

>>2542

It dropped further after he deleted his threads. Those threads were active, thus counting for the three day period. Given the number of threads involved it's entirely likely that there were several people who only posted inside those threads within the three day window.

Even ignoring the explanation of how this website fucking works, if you were to read >>2491 you will see that the user count was above 520 shortly after he announced he would delete his threads. If one would assume that it took him a decent amount of time to delete all of his threads (I would, given the large number involved) it is entirely possible that the dip below 500 is still largely his fault.

I agree with the other moderations in that thread, but deleting the poster who links to MAL was unnecessary. It says nowhere in the rules that linking to MAL is illegal, and I do not think it is the mods' job to enforce board culture. It's not like he was promoting MAL or saying, "Here, come check out my MAL list", he was just linking to resources about the specific anime he was talking about. MAL is like an anime encyclopedia so I think using it for that purpose is ok.

>It's not cherry-picking.

In a sense it is cherry-picking. You used one show for your example, and even added your own assumptions as to why it isn't as well covered as the MAL entry even though it's a "popular" currently airing show.

I'd rather promote anidb since it's not filled with advertising like MAL is, but I guess not everyone uses it.

35e279 No.1135

>>1133
There are plenty of other examples.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fate/stay_night#Anime
http://myanimelist.net/anime/22297/Fate/stay_night:_Unlimited_Blade_Works_(TV)

Looking at the 2, it is obvious which is more helpful. The UBW anime doesn't have its own page on Wikipedia, just a short paragraph and a page for episode summaries (a plus over MAL). MAL has a comprehensive list of seiyuu and more information on the production. If you want an encyclopediaic overview on Nasu or ufo, Wiki is better for it, but if you already know what you need to know, MAL is better for speedy research and an overview of the anime itself.

>anidb

Not too familiar with it. I do know its used for HTPC scrapers, though. Personally, I've gotten into the habit of using the !mal bang on duckduckgo. It's my first stop when researching a strange anime, with foolz as the second. Next time, I'll see if there's an anidb bang, and make sure to use it to see what info it has. I probably won't switch to it, though. I'll get flak for this, but I do skim the reviews and sometimes the recs on MAL, and find it informative. As long as I keep in mind the biases, I find it useful for gauging a general opinion. Usually, I find that the general opinion is the same on both sites, although foolz will be more informative of the unique quirks surrounding the fanbase or airing of the show. I don't have an account though, and I never will, especially for /g/ reasons of just not wanting a footprint.

7811fd No.1138

>>1135
Deciding what site is "better" is a bit difficult, (I use neither of them in the first place) but I agree that MAL usually covers all of your pro points nicely, including the subbing entry, which used to be more important in the past.

Still, people might find wikipedia entries good enough for their own research purposes, I don't agree with the "vastly superior" description either, though.

They hate us but it's misguided hate. I was part of the first exodus to 8chan and don't even play video games or participate in /v/. I just got tired of the mods and 8chan was a chance to leave that place. It's really a shame that they hate us so much.

Mods are really soft on /a/ now compared to when they were before the first exodus. It's not because they suddenly care. It's because they don't want a rebellion. If /a/ rebelled like /v/, /jp/, /pol/ and /sp/ that would be a big problem for 4chan. But I'm not going to let their softness lure me in because I don't want to go back there.

Tensions I think will be high between 4/a/ and the moderation in the coming future. But the moderation will be like loving babysitters and go into damage control should any problems happen. Moderation fucked up other boards but they stopped themselves just in time for /a/ before it became too late. They only realized that after ruining several other boards and causing a mass migration to 8chan.

They don't even know that 8chan is the only thing right now preventing moderation from bringing down the hammer on them.

The magic of 4chan /a/ is that the 4chan mods can introduce any meme and the submissive users will eat it up and start repeating it.

You can't do that on /pol/ or /v/ because the users are too independence and willful, /a/ users tend to be more submissive.

Ehh it was definitely getting worse over time, last week was particularly bad, something really did need to be done. the problem was when people found out about it by being banned. From >>>/a/229626 the idea was the change would be announced in the thread first so that people could know about it, but none of the people who would've said something actually did.

The mental picture I have is of HM running around cleaning up after and apologizing profusely (read: sumimasen, sumimasen!) on behalf of the other maids. Thing is, even the clumsy maid schtick stops being cute when half your good plates are broken. HM needs to control his kouhais better already.

be7d23 No.2429

In preparation for the thread today, I thought it'd be good to clarify the situation here. Last week was a failure in communication I'd rather avoid seeing a repeat of, so in the form of a Q&A session with myself:

>Is the r/a/dio banned now?

No, of course not.

>Is avatar/namefaggotry banned?

It already was, however we were turning a blind eye to what at first glance appeared to be harmless fun. This was a mistake on our part, encouraging breaking anonymity for social reasons is a bad idea. Rule 10 exists for good reason, and will be impartially enforced in the future.

>Are the three anons in question banned?

No. However, going forwards the existing rules will be applied fairly and consistently to everyone, as they should have been from the start. Rule 8 remains in effect; complaints should be directed to this thread.

I'm sure posts will be up again by next month.

Boards like /k/ have an active userbase of older folks while boards like /a/ tend to be "restricted" to folks more in their mid twenties and younger.
