Basically, we're being raided by an outside chan. They've been trying to turn users against board owners by spamming anime images then spamming more about how the mods are rulecucks. From there, either new boards are created, or existing ones cooped and an effort is made to drive users to the new boards. /v/, /pol/ and /sp/ have all been major targets, with /leftypol/ possibly being next. Honestly, the whole thing smells a lot like what happened a while ago on here with the nazi spammer and /am/, but they might try it again with more force.

I didn't post this on the actual board because of the no meta rule, but hopefully at least some of you see this, especially the board owner or one of the mods. More info can be found here:

I think you've pretty much got it, though I'm not convinced that the first two attacks were necessarily related to this current wave. We've actually been dealing with /int/spam for a while now, though unlike the other targeted large boards it ultimately didn't affect /a/ because from the beginning we were systematically and unceremoniously deleting/banning them (usually within minutes), we weren't bound by what other boards thought of us. The advantage /a/ has over all the other affected boards is that the users actually support and work with their mods, rendering /int/'s strategy of turning boards against their mods ineffectual. Their shitposting relies on them being able to drive a wedge between users and mods, and from what I've seen /a/ seems to be the only board that flatly refuses to cave in to them here. Not that they didn't try, as we've seen from those past shitstorms, but their capacity to destroy /a/ at this point is minimal, I don't think they're worth worrying too much about. What's interesting to me is watching the rest of the site slowly coming around to our way of thinking, learning through raw trial and error what /a/nons understood from the very beginning. Please do continue to report them though, we have scripts polling the queue to notify us quickly after reports are filed, but our reaction time is heavily dependent on someone filing a report (there seems to be a trend of expecting that someone else will do it, but if you're seeing spam in the catalog it's likely that everyone else thought the same thing and it never actually got reported).

It's really not hard to follow who's making these posts, who's behind them is a different story though. It seems like it's only a few individuals who recycle the same images, they show up on /int/ a lot and /am/ every now and then. Not sure about /pol/, /v/, /gghq/, or /polpol/ since I rarely visit those.

My take on this is they know /a/ is safe with regards to the mods and users getting along, so cultivating discontent with anime across the rest of 8chan is their only alternative to try and bring /a/ down.

I think my reaction to it was quite natural though. I ask everyone here to try to put themselves on my shoes. I never tried to get /pol/, /a/ or any other board to hate each other, and I took no part in the anime shitposting divide and conquer raid that happened on /pol/ either. I didn't even use any anime images at all, since everyone was being paranoid as fuck about it and accusing /int/, /a/, /2hu/ or whatever of being behind the spam. /int/ and /leftypol/ are definitely confirmed to have had a part in it though, since they organized the raid in both of those boards (actually /leftypol/ used a different site to organize the anime spamming for people to not find out about their schemes, but this is a different history).

By the way, I never intended on using /am/ at all. I was just trying to be nice to them because they made a few references to my threads and posts in their board. I was going to use /baka/, but then their mods of that were revealed to be circlejerking faggots too, and now I don't use anything at all and have put my anime-watching related activities on a hiatus for the time being.

I'm really opening my heart here. I still believe my ban was unfair, but I guess I can indeed put my "petty resentments" towards the board aside for now. I wish you the best of luck for your board in these tough times, even though I'll no longer use it again. You obviously had nothing to do with all of this, since most of your userbase cares about the quality of your board just as much as /polpol/ does for example. It wouldn't make sense for /a/ to shitspam /pol/ and call people who disagree with them 'rulecucks' who hate anime. What do people who want a global anti-raiding rule actually think it will accomplish? If raids are being planned offsite like many people are speculating then it's already completely pointless. It also means boards can't deal with spam the way they want to. /int/ can make memes from it and other boards can delete if they want.

This is before you even get into the details of enforcement of such a rule like if raid planning threads are banned and if bans for raiding would be global. Not to mention how to make a ban stick when a new IP is easy to hell to get.

No real need. The way I see it /a/ has already had its fair share of meta drama, at this point the board is now in a place I would consider stable. Should they try it on we'll find out one way or another, most likely through a poster on here, and then set about ruthlessly and wordlessly expunging them from /a/, as we have the past few raids (be it /int/, SA, or whoever they are). They will try to sabotage the board by misrepresenting their actions here, they'll be shot down if any anons care enough to do so, and the board won't budge (something I don't think would happen at this point unless the maids started flagrantly betraying the community's trust, in which case /a/ would be quite right to be angry).

See /v/ made a critical mistake at the beginning and built their identity around the idea of nomods, the trap which resulted in the current drama. What we are seeing now is the users there finally beginning to recognize there is a necessity to have active moderation to protect the board. /v/ are slow learners, but this outcome was inevitable, eventually they'd have to come to grips with the idea they need mods acting in the interests of the community if they wanted to have any semblance of coherence whatsoever. I think it wouldn't have worked if the /v/ mods tried from the start to regulate the community, it had to come from a bottom-up demand first, whereas here /a/ already fully understood this from the beginning so starting from a position of active moderation was appropriate. Mostly I'm trying to say /v/ is shit and stupid compared to /a/, but I'm seeing a faint glimmer of hope they may eventually come around. We'll see.

My prediction is /v/ as a whole will eventually come around to the idea of allowing the mods to moderate according to their judgement rather than a hardcoded (read: exploitable) set of rules and let them just get on with it silently in the background (and yes, this does necessarily require the users to place a degree of trust in their mods). Really that's been a big part of my philosophy, moderation should be visible but quiet, it's not healthy for a board to be continually subjected to constant meta drama with the mods ultimately centring the board around themselves. It's the reason we shunted all meta discussion off to here and barely touch the capcodes anymore, mods are a board's servants not the centrepiece.
