They really shouldn't ban people for shit like this. What rule does it actually violate? It's not shitposting or anything else to have the "wrong opinion", and behavior like this just results in stagnation as nobody is willing to disagree with >le hivemind opinion. The only bans that have occurred for this have happened over the past 24 hours though, so I don't think it'll stick around long term.

>Here comes another apologetic Head Meido post…
An apology? I'm thinking: no. Last week I wrote an apology because I felt we genuinely made a mess and caused trouble for /a/. This is not one of those times.
You could come to me and try and make the case that 'well, yes streaming is awful but there may be legitimate times and reasons even for actual /a/nons to do so!'. But that is not what this is about. From following the thread and the response it would appear the maid in question smelled cancer, and then proceeded to find a reason to excise the tumour. As we can see from this very thread the anons that were caught in this one were not model posters, they were cancerous /v/ermin newfags, and I have inspected their posting histories which were catastrophic and clearly unsalvagable. Were they actual /a/nons who got banned you might be able to extract an apology and policy change from me, but certainly not for the sake of these types of posters.
No one seems to remember but from the very beginning we've been banning on grounds of 'Lurk more', this represents a continuation of the standard approach we've always used. Still, our ban lengths themselves are short, rarely going over a few days except in the case of spambots, usually sticking to less than a day or a few hours. The type of anon capable of learning and with a thick enough skin is free to continue trying, and perhaps eventually begin to properly fit in.
As I have continually reiterated we're in this to defend /a/-core as a community, not to be '8chan's anime board'. We're the cudgel this community can use to castrate cancer with, something we're unique in where the other major boards have instead made their commitments to open borders. If you don't like this feel free to use >>>/am/ instead, it's in the rotation after all.

You're doing a great job BO. Keep doing what you're doing and keep the /v/ermin as unwelcome as possible.

Streaming is a shitty behaviour and you obnoxiously tell everyone you do it (be it talking how you stream or posting garbage streaming pics) you should be at least a little punished, so you could smarten up and even if you continue this fucking cancer at least not be honest about it, because you know it is looked down upon.
Not that the head maid doesn't seem to be over his head over a thousand other things. If I were on his place I would have called myself Hitler, but still, I would have had more clear understandings of my lines. He is all over the place and frankly doesn't seem to be very sure where he is going.

Here is two post you might wanna look at >>2553 >>2616 And after then people saying things like >>2617 >>2621 completely ignoring the major point in the first two posts, just makes my head fucking spin.
If you have somehow missed it both in the posts and in the actual reality of 4/a/ and 4chan as a whole, the new generations of mods and janitors are trying to follow the rules of the site very tightly and blindly. The reality is right now 4chan in often is very overmoderated, yet people fucking say that somehow they want that and it wasn't fucking enough or something? It is bullshit. Hell, after the change of the mod system where they can't freely say what they are banning you for, but have to choose one of the rules essentially as a reason, "low quality post" was for week the most used reason for banning people and most of the bans were completely retarded to begin with.
What everyone has to understand that the rules were never important to anyone, but the few newfags that read them and tried to act according to them. Other than that very few things were truly punishable - CP, obvious spam in the form of guro or something else and sometimes making fun of retards that say that they are underage. Things like that. Maybe making a thread about something completely unrelated might sometimes be deleted, but even then often people would turn into somewhat of an /a/ funposting thread. My point is the rules weren't suppose to be the ten fucking commandments of God. They were just around to keep things going on. There was something more important going on, the cultural unwritten rules of behaviour.
For example, a Naruto thread. Obvious anime, why wouldn't be related, right? Nothing against in the rules. But there is something more important than them and that was the cultural acceptance of Naruto. And so from time to time people did get banned for making Naruto threads, but often even that wasn't done. Maybe because the mods were lazy pieces of shit, but maybe even more so because it didn't matter if they get deleted or not (as long as we are not talking about a spam of Naruto threads). Because they were ridiculed to death. Saged, or even not, people would shitpost to their heart contest with dubs and pasts and making fun of it. Even if the OP didn't get banned for a day or more, he would still reconsider doing it again, because it would just not work the way he wants it to do, because the anons would not let such a thing go by without making any serious Naruto poster upset enough to want to leave. Post a screenshot of a stream? A thousand replies laughing at your dumb ass. Recommendation thread? Spammed to death with Buku no Pico. Anything like that.
I will say it again, the rules were there just to keep things clean from the things that hindered the free discussion (in whatever form) of things. With a little extra moderation of actually unwritten things and mostly just anons making sure that anyone who doesn't belong doesn't feel welcomed was more than enough. But a changed occurred. Hard to pinpoint how and when, but maybe just too much of the original posters were replaced and things like self-moderation started disappearing in thread after thread. And with that decreasing the increase of site/board rule moderation come to pay shitting up a lot of the fun in the site.
The board of 8/a/ is small so far, maybe it will become bigger, maybe it won't. But right now it is easy even for a single mod to be able to go through most posts. Even easier considering there is more than one. In some regards you might be trying too hard, especially considering how little there is to do. You are trying to obey the culture, but there is almost some of that rule zealous going on. To me it feels like there is a lot of doubt between rules and culture and overall inconsistency of taken actions I have seen through the months.

To be honest I don't follow things too much here, even though I come and go almost every day just to check what is going on, but I wouldn't consider it as a lot and I really don't keep a list of stupid things I have seen the mods doing. And as let's be honest a lot of people here, I still visit 4/a/ (for action being able to have more dynamic discussions, really the only reason also so many people from the rest of shitty internet go there), easily more than 8/a/, even though I am limiting myself to how much I explore it, because mostly I just get heart pains by watching the shitshow that it is. And when you put the two 4/a/ and 8/a/ beside each other, I have to say, the differences is not that much. At best/worse 4/a/ has a more rule obedience from the mods and on a bigger scale. But even there magically some nice things are left untouched. For example there was a thread the other day about the change of the elementary school swimsuits in Japan. I am honestly almost surprised that someone didn't decide to deleted. It was far from being the best thread ever or anything, but it was a good example of a thread that should be allowed to exist even if a lot of the conversation might not be 100% anime related. There was talk about if this would affect anime of course, but it easily went in many different topics like politics, ethnicity and all kinds of fun enough even if often absurd discussions. Just stop and think about what a normal thing this has always been. You probably should have even at least a few pics of such threads going to all sorts of crazy topics. This is natural and is okay, it is actually fun has never been a problem in the past. Let's take the example of Maria the Virgin Witch. There was a lot of religion and war discussion in the thread. And during one of the new episodes some retard decided it might be a good idea to try delete that because it wasn't enough /a/. Thankfully people were intelligent enough to shit on him and make fun of his retardness. An anime about religion and war makes people talk about religion and war? If this is not mission accomplished fuck me. And so the threads continued to have fun discussions about religion and war.

And now I will give another example of a very similar image between here and there, but actually be sure to read/not forget the previous paragraph/s, because it is important to it. Let's talk about the god damn Clannad case of this week. Threads on 4/a/ were deleted pretty fast. Who knows exactly why. Here? Deleted/saged, because "muh /pol/ shitposting." Do you see how this could relate to the previous paragraph? Of course such a topic might related to things like that. It is only nature, anime fans have opinions about other things too. And of course you are going to talk about political correctness when someone got suspended for a fucking image macro of anime. You are trying too hard with this "us and them" newfag board mentality. Let's not forget that boards were created because too many people from an existing one would have this other common thing between them (for example watching anime and playing video games is very much a common thread between anyone from a decade ago to now). And something like having a political opinion is not even something you have to need any special interest towards politic. You just call on ridiculous things as you see them. God forbids. It is bad enough pretending this is the horror of the world, but this is not even the worse. How could you, how in the fucking hell could you even think of taking away from people the freedom to ridicule this? One of the things we have always done the best and we have had the most fun with - making fun of stupid things and having a blast doing it. How many fucking times have we laughed our asses when some stupid Naruto fanboy has killed himself out of Naruto depression or trying to become a sandman? How often have we went crazy after someone mentions us on TV? But, not. Fuck all of this. Because not anime and/or too much /pol/ or some other stupid shit. And you might dare to say "B-But I left one thread on autosage! You can post in it!" as if the act itself doesn't show how the moderation thing is against something like that, something so natural to "old /a/." And so maybe people don't go deep enough into the pages to find/post in a thread that is being autosaged, or maybe maybe you know what, you just might be right to so do. Maybe you are right to do all you are doing, considering that there is plenty people wanting to suck you off for it. I guess it is very possible that even if there were people that truly saw hope in this place and to revive the old spirit, and I am certain I saw some months ago, most have left by know, because they got disappointed or just never had much hope to begin with and what they saw happening here wasn't very hopeful anyway. I guess it is very much possible that 8/a/ is really actually just kids that want to be even more hipster than 4/a/ and use phrases like "old /a/" just as a meme to prove something now.
I spend long enough writing this shit. Take whatever you will from it, but try to at least reconsider the differences and importance of the rule moderation and the cultural moderation. It certainly might be a challenge to balance things out, but if you want to actually make something worthwhile you will have to. And the anons will and have to play a big role in keeping things together, but you as the admin have to show them the proper way from time to time, or otherwise they might also get lazy, lose their way or simple be replaced by too many people that do not understand these things. At the end you should look at this is a small community, or country or whatever. Everyone has to contributed to it staying both healthy and fun. You are here to keep some of the big chunks of health around, while the anons will have to never forget to have fun, but also look after staying healthy themselves.

They tell you to go to another board that tolerates ignorance of quality.
