Please tell me how high our traffic is supposed to be. It wasn't supposed to be this low, apparently, so how high was it supposed to be? What magic arbitrary number of PPH or UIDs is objectively the number we must be at to meet your satisfaction?

cc7819 No.2474

Around 600 users + whatever PPH, since that doesn't seem to have a strong correlation with the number of users.

cc7819 No.2476

I meant in the current system obviously. I don't know how either of them work/worked though.

c7e93f No.2477

The board has 513 "active users" as of the time of this writing. The board normally fluctuates between 550 and 650 users with the occasional excursion in either direction.

While 513 is not a number one would consider normal, keep in mind that "active users" is now counted in blocks of /16, not true unique IP addresses as was the case in the past.

Saying that we "had" 600+ people in the past or that we have "only" 500 people now is not entirely accurate, as in the past people with dynamic IP addresses would have artificially inflated our numbers, whereas now not only is that not the case but any two or more people in the same area with the same ISP will only be counted as one person.

5fec0d No.2478

File: 1431615600483.jpg (123.11 KB, 1920x1080, 16:9, proper.jpg)

/a/'s PPH was always low because the /v/edditor faggots that a good deal of the board is populated by don't have much to talk about there, since they only watch anime very casually. But yeah, this drop in users does seems weird. It might have to do with some people checking out on /monster/ or migrating to /am/.

c7e93f No.2479

>>2477

To add to this, yes it is still the case that since the switch to the new counting system we have had up to 620 active users and we are significantly lower, but when you consider the fact that we were listed as being at 650-700 before that I would say that 513 is a decent number.

TL;DR we're not far from where we were before, if it keeps dropping then you can panic.

cc7819 No.2480

>>2477

>>2478

But /a/ is still losing the users that it gained over that span of time. I don't see why anyone would be okay with this happening. The board does need more traffic. Quality can still be maintained at a good level with proper moderation.

How new are you? The board has fluctuated massively between 450 and 750 active users in the past, so stop chimping out over >holy shit guys we're down to 520 active users in the middle of the week something is terribly wrong! It doesn't mean shit, the only time I'd ever begin to be worried about this is if we fall below ~450 active users which we both know won't happen as the weekend is coming up which pretty much always results in a 100-150 jump in unique IPs.

So stop trying to push >it's d-dead guys! t-there's slightly less posters than usual so everyone abandon ship! down anons' throat. It's obnoxious as fuck, and considering that /a/ has survived far worse situations (with far more of this defeatist bullshit being pushed) in the past it just gives me the impression that you haven't been here for that long. I mean really, do you even remember the trainwreck that caused the shift of /a/ meta shit to /ameta/ in the first place?

>>2483

http://stats.4ch.net/8chan/allboards.php

>Posts per week has fluctuated around 490k-500k since the start of the year and shows no noticeable drop over time

8chan isn't dying. Pointing to third party websites that everyone knows aren't very reliable in the first place (like >>2481) doesn't change the fact that PPH has remained solid since the start of the year. On top of that we're doing far better than we did last year (up from 330k-400k PPW last year) and we've actually had some very high PPHs recently (getting up to ~4.6k PPH) that I don't recall seeing since moot's resignation/the first exodus.

The site is more than healthy, just because we haven't had anything much happen recently to draw in fresh users (in comparison to all the shit that happened at the start of the year - moot's resignation, irc janitor logs, that SVU episode, Lizardsquad DDOS and /baph/-related happenings, etc.) doesn't mean we'll be dead in 5 months as most the faggots here don't have anywhere else they'd rather be. So strap the fuck in sperglord, we're here for the long haul whether you like it or not.

>>2488

Faggots relying on halfchan to get new traffic are doing far more harm than good, but regardless of what occurs there we'll likely grow in the future as we have a decent userbase and provide features that few sites rival. The only other website comparable to 8ch which actually has a solid userbase is plebbit, but plebbit has a myriad of issues that make it very unattractive for a number of people (karma system, shitty pseudo-anonymity, overbearing corporate as fuck pandering-to-lowest-common-denominator administration, little customization, muh rules, SRS and SJ bullshit, etc.).

And that's where a site like 8ch comes in. We'll pick up new users and small communities (like /egy/) every now and then and that's really how we should be aiming to grow, rather than counting on halfchan to fuck up even harder than usual. Which they probably will anyway considering moot is trying to sell the site (resulting in more retarded moderation decisions), but whatever.

Basically this. What we have now are a number of groups that don't have much imageboard presence elsewhere or have made their own here (for better or worse) such as /furry/, /egy/, /baphomet/, /leftypol/, /christian/, /cow/, etc., not to mention the pedo boards. While I'm not sure they'd sustain themselves if everybody got up and left, I can see a future for the site as a place for niche communities at the very worst.

>>2490

Like the other anon above me said, PPH has very little to do with how many people visit a place. /pol/ lost a few users after the mods went full retard yet rised in PPH because of increased amount of shitposting and circlejerking for example.

>>2492

I don't care about any of these trash boards though. They can all die along with the rest of the website for all I care.

Also, I don't visit 8/a/ anymore either, but I respect you more than other boards here like /pol/, /v/, /int/, /co/, GG faggots, etc. I wouldn't celebrate if you fell of the top 10 to make room for even more cancerous shit.

>>2492

I really like that aspect of 8chan. It's fun to see what boards pop up over time (like /monster/ and /christian/) as every now and then something pretty fucking interesting comes along. And occasionally you'll see these new boards influencing established board culture elsewhere and you get all that warm fuzzy shit going on.

>>2494

>All that means is that there's more shitposting and spamming

(no evidence provided)

Sasuga funposter-kun.

>PPH doesn't mean shit. /int/ has a high PPH, doesn't make it a great board.

PPH means there's something for lurkers to read, and to keep coming back for. PPH means that other anons see that the board is meaningfully active (or not) and decide whether or not to get involved as a result. PPH is important as fug as it's the stream of novel content across the site, with a low PPH there's little reason for anons to come back regularly as they know there probably won't be much new shit to read, which ends up with people slowly forgetting about a board altogether (>tfw /baka/). While you're right that it doesn't make a board good, PPH arguably matters more than UIPs when it comes to growth (at least for the size /a/ and most other boards here are at).

>Why do you think top 25 ranking changed from PPH to UIPs?

Because boards with a higher number of UIPs interest a proportionally larger part of 8chin's userbase, so arranging them such that the boards with the highest number of UIPs are most visible is the logical approach. More people would be interested in /n/ and /tech/ over /aneki/ and /homosuck/ due to higher UIPs (in spite of lower PPH), hence they should be more visible on the site to make it easier for the majority to navigate. The former point that PPH/apparent activity (rate of new content, etc.) matters more to actual board survival than UIPs still stands, as what ultimately determines whether someone sticks around long term is if a place looks active and not whether it actually has a large userbase (if it's slow as fug regardless of a high number of UIPs than the shit detailed in the prior paragraph happens).

>>2495

What boards do you visit here?

5fec0d No.2497

Used to go to /pol/ before it became shit. Now I only visit /tech/, /lit/ and occasionally check on /his/ and /monster/.

For my anime/manga discussion needs, I only use 4/a/. Why do I visit this board too even though I'm not a 8/a/ user you ask? Because a lot of people here are cool-headed and are willing to discuss about the issues affecting 4/a/ as well instead of being irrational shits like the GG retards who are still trying to force the SJW boogeyman into everything.

2559e9 No.2498

>>2497

/pol/ tends to fluctuate between pretty awful and decent nowadays. I feel like the change from the old BO/BVs helped it a fair bit though as the new volunteers seem more relaxed and intervene less than the old ones, but ultimately that doesn't mean much when the userbase still gets caught up in the same retarded threads over and over.

Also, check out /irc/'s /a/ threads if you haven't already. There's some pretty autistic shitflinging and they get derailed by yurifags at parts, but if you want to read up on 4/a/'s moderation you'll probably find them interesting.

d140b4 No.2499

>>2496

>More people would be interested in /n/ and /tech/ over /aneki/ and /homosuck/ due to higher UIPs

You seriously have no idea what you're talking about, no one wants to use those boards because they're cancer, sorting them higher isn't going to drive more traffic to them. Ultimately what you're saying is you think every anon out there is a mindless drone incapable of considering for himself what boards he'd like to visit, clumping on the top boards solely because they're popular. The fact that boards can spring up overnight and overtake well established boards should in itself be sufficient to prove you wrong.

I stand corrected, you come here from /pol/ >>>/pol/2073206 figured there was a secret goon invasion and came blazing in thinking you understand any of the drama going on at /a/

>goon invasion

No need to go so paranoid when cuckchan shills are literally declaring their identity and purpose.

I think I should have put goon invasion in square quotes to emphasize my sarcasm

That's a cringeworthy thread.

>>2648

I still go to 4chan, and a few smaller IB's.

You're dealing with dedicated retards who refuse to admit any possible problems with /a/ and come here to fight the good fight. What do you expect?

18f5e4 No.3517

>>3516

fix the problems yourself. why expect strangers who don't even know who you are to make you happy. make yourself happy mother fucker

bb0310 No.3518

>>3517

>fix the problem of mods banning legitimate content and discussion myself

I avoid that problem by visiting actually good alt /a/ boards and sites, and recruiting in places where people might be interested. None of that is going to save 8/a/.

18f5e4 No.3519

>>3518

yeah, well good job. if it doesn't have much to do with 8ch /a/ why even try to bring it up here? you already make it obvious that you want others to go to wherever but sticking around to pull some snake shit after being called out is pretty gay. the people who will stay will stay and you should let the people who are butthurt come naturally to you then to instead of making yourselves share your misery with each other without improving and staying the same low level person. Are you scared for not posting quality content? so what. you just go somewhere else no one is going to chase you and call you a loser

if you have trouble assimilating, complaining does not help much if you can't understand why you're having trouble in the first place. this is an 18+ board anyways so self filtering, self monitoring or moderating should have been learned by the time you reached that age and if you're sporadic the mods will take care of that for you. I'm sure the mods see my behavior and they delete my shit that's against the rules and I have only been banned once for saying something straight from Xbox live. "not into your fantasies lil gay boi" something like that.

Holy shit you've been doing this for a while now, get it together.
