For those unfamiliar, the gist is: the community votes on a book, we then read it and discuss our interpretations, objections and other insights relating to said text. Naturally, the books would be related to anarchism and related topics.
What should be our first book? Do we have enough regulars to make this work? Is this a retarded idea?

this was pretty good, and also if anyone can find a pdf of it, "Sociology For Changing The World" was surprisingly militant and pragmatic despite the name. I had a paper copy of it but it's been lost and I haven't been able to find a pdf anywhere, but it's top tier shit. i also lost my pdf for The Logic of Connective Action (the full book; the research article of the same name has been available for a while) but that was also real solid strategic sociology content

New board owner here, I propose that we make moderation of the board more anarchistic, something I was planning to do if I became mod and that has also been raised in another thread.

Moderator cycle
Due to the obvious limitations of the website I will unfortunately have to reject the idea of the moderator changing after a set period of time, my reason being that the board could easily come under the control of reactionaries etc. and if this happened there would be limited if any chance at all to remove the moderator.

Thread to discuss moderation
You read my mind anon, that is what the Anarchist Council thread is for. Obvious shitposting threads will be removed on sight but when I am uncertain as to which course of action to take I will post in the Council thread where the subject may be debated, please refrain from bitching about posts you don't like in this thread, report them.

This is the Anarchist FAQ, currently a work in progress. It's a mess (at the time of creation), that will change. I will edit this post as you recommend content.

Capitalist posts belong in >>6450

"Either the State for ever, crushing individual and local life, taking over in all fields of human activity, bringing with it its wars and its domestic struggles for power, its palace revolutions which only replace one tyrant by another, and inevitably at the end of this development there is … death! Or the destruction of States, and new life starting again in thousands of centers on the principle of the lively initiative of the individual and groups and that of free agreement. The choice lies with you!" -Kropotkin

FAQ's

What is Anarchism?

The word "anarchy" is from the Greek, prefix an (or a), meaning "not," "the want of," "the absence of," or "the lack of", plus archos, meaning "a ruler," "director", "chief," "person in charge," or "authority." Or, as Peter Kropotkin put it, Anarchy comes from the Greek words meaning "contrary to authority."

While the Greek words anarchos and anarchia are often taken to mean "having no government" or "being without a government," as can be seen, the strict, original meaning of anarchism was not simply "no government." "An-archy" means "without a ruler," or more generally, "without authority," and it is in this sense that anarchists have continually used the word. For example, we find Kropotkin arguing that anarchism "attacks not only capital, but also the main sources of the power of capitalism: law, authority, and the State." For anarchists, anarchy means "not necessarily absence of order, as is generally supposed, but an absence of rule." - An Anarchist FAQ

Ahh, a classic. People are still here, right?

Anyway, Proudhon was referring to land property, of course, but many interpret his theory as standing true in other ways.

If "The rich man’s right of property, on the contrary, has to be continually defended against the poor man’s desire for property." is true, then what if a poor man desire's the personal property of the rich man? That is theft, but is not property also theft?

So where exactly do we draw the line? Is my house my personal property, or is it the 'land property' that Proudhon so disdains?

the newest agreement between turkey and the eu wants all the refugees and migrants that arrive to the greek islands been returned immediately in turkey and then the same number of refugees will be relocated to eu countries.

the plan is ridiculously stupid and absurd for a number of reasons.

first and foremost you can't really force someone to be deported against his will.

also turkey has many times failed to keep their word so i can't find a reason they will keep their promises now.

according to my current knowledge the eu countries are not very willing to receive any refugees.

i'll be able to post a deeper analysis when i get clearer info.

a personal fear i have is about kurds in turkey and the possibility they become target of persecution by the turkish state but that's my own baseless assessment.

when it comes to greece since the beginning the state has been nonexistent leaving the handling of the crisis to autonomous structures volunteers and ngos.

with the closing of the borders and the effective hault of refugees passing to europe through the balkan route, situation has been shaped like this:

the first arrival, the greek islands with the bulk of arrivals happening in Lesvos

here are some statistics

http://data.unhcr.org/mediterranean/country.php?id=83

the problem here not as significant as it was during the 2015 summer but slowly we see the state attacking solidarity structures

cont.

then we have mainland greece with piraeus where most ships that come from the islands arrive.

things there are very tough with lack of shifts and always with the state shining with it's complete absence.

an initiative based in piraeus

https://www.facebook.com/groups/157689337908512/?fref=ts

there are open camps made by the state that are fuctional only due to volunteers like elliniko and eleonas.

other camps that are been created now (mainly using labor provided by soldiers) are insufficient and we had examples of refugees refusing to stay in a camp in volos since living in the streets provides better conditions.

Squatted buildings (mostly by anarchists) have been popping up almost weekly in order to house the refugees and follow the principal of self governenceby all participants (refugees and solidarity members)

the first and most prominent of such squats is notara

already existing structures created to deal with the economic crisis like the metropolitan social clinic of elliniko, nosotros social centre, social kitchens (o allos anthropos etc) have also been very helpful.

the main problem right now is in eidomeni where refugees gather to the borders with macedonia hoping to find a pass to europe.

conditions there are terrible and the state is mPost too long. Click here to view the full text.

I have been searching for active anarchy boards and there is absolutely zero of them. This is literally the only board I could find and it isn't that active. How come no one is that interested in anarchy?

Well there is r/anarchy what a horrific place that is. Every other thread is KILL WHITEY. DON'T PROPAGATE RAPE CULTURE. MISOGYNST

I even replied to one of them and said "What does this have to do with anarchy?" And I got downvoted to oblivion. No one actually talks about anarchy on there.

Anyways, how can we make this board more active?

02b4e0 No.9807

I think the problem is most anarchists just post on /leftypol/ instead.

EWW

If you're interested in learning dialectical materialism and what value it has that can be extracted by anarchists, you should read Wayne Price's The Value of Radical Theory - as an introductory point at least. You could also read Capital if you really, for some reason, want to subject yourself to all that economics autism, but for critiques of capitalism the classic writers like Kropotkin, Bakunin, and Proudhon pretty much more than adequately cover that ground.

8444fd No.9797[Reply]

Because of this post >>9793 , I'm making a thread for an idea I've been thinking about for awhile now that I expect will gain no traction anyways kek. I think in light of /anarcho/'s increasing stagnation and /leftypol/ turning into a /pol/ bait/Old Left Marxist/Old Left libertarian socialist/leftist meme theory board, it's only become more pertinent. I did however make a post a few months back about this under different circumstances: >>8944

Basically, I have been thinking of making an imageboard sort of along the lines of /leftypol/'s Bunkerchan, but with the express intent of being a space for nihilists and anarchists. Pretty much like what Anokchan used to be. I think this is important because I've come to notice that the anarchist population among the imageboard community has just started to disappear the past few months. You've got a lot of anarchist types on Lainchan, sure, but Lainchan's administration seems to have over and over again turned down any opportunities to take an official political stance for the board - which is fine, since the board itself was never intended to have an explicit political position, and doing this would probably alienate a lot of users. But aside from all the people there who might like an anarchist imageboard, and the other anarchists scattered around the other *chans and the internet at large, it seems like the majority of "anarchists" around the imageboard community are essentially libertarian socialist Old Left types. Not that I have a problem with them per say, but you hear a /leftypol/ ideology being echoed constantly on there: Literally everything bad is rooted in capitalism and materialism, muh New Old Left, muh free speech for fascists, literally everything that isn't about capitalism (and I guess the State too sorta right anarkiddies…) is "IdPol". And that's ignoring the other problems of the board.

I'm trying to avoid sounding like too much of an ideologue here, but as far as I can tell, this way of thinking, this idolizing the left that was, is mostly exclusive to anarchists on /leftypol/ rather than the contemporary anarchist community as a whole.

Post too long. Click here to view the full text.
