Book Club?

For those unfamiliar, the gist is: the community votes on a book, we then read it and discuss our interpretations, objections and other insights relating to said text. Naturally, the books would be related to anarchism and related topics.
What should be our first book? Do we have enough regulars to make this work? Is this a retarded idea?

Anarchist Council

New board owner here, I propose that we make moderation of the board more anarchistic, something I was planning to do if I became mod and that has also been raised in another thread.

Moderator cycle
Due to the obvious limitations of the website I will unfortunately have to reject the idea of the moderator changing after a set period of time, my reason being that the board could easily come under the control of reactionaries etc. and if this happened there would be limited if any chance at all to remove the moderator.

Thread to discuss moderation
You read my mind anon, that is what the Anarchist Council thread is for. Obvious shitposting threads will be removed on sight but when I am uncertain as to which course of action to take I will post in the Council thread where the subject may be debated, please refrain from bitching about posts you don't like in this thread, report them.

FAQ

This is the Anarchist FAQ, currently a work in progress. It's a mess (at the time of creation), that will change. I will edit this post as you recommend content.

Capitalist posts belong in >>6450

"Either the State for ever, crushing individual and local life, taking over in all fields of human activity, bringing with it its wars and its domestic struggles for power, its palace revolutions which only replace one tyrant by another, and inevitably at the end of this development there is … death! Or the destruction of States, and new life starting again in thousands of centers on the principle of the lively initiative of the individual and groups and that of free agreement. The choice lies with you!" -Kropotkin

FAQ's

What is Anarchism?

The word "anarchy" is from the Greek, prefix an (or a), meaning "not," "the want of," "the absence of," or "the lack of", plus archos, meaning "a ruler," "director", "chief," "person in charge," or "authority." Or, as Peter Kropotkin put it, Anarchy comes from the Greek words meaning "contrary to authority."

While the Greek words anarchos and anarchia are often taken to mean "having no government" or "being without a government," as can be seen, the strict, original meaning of anarchism was not simply "no government." "An-archy" means "without a ruler," or more generally, "without authority," and it is in this sense that anarchists have continually used the word. For example, we find Kropotkin arguing that anarchism "attacks not only capital, but also the main sources of the power of capitalism: law, authority, and the State." For anarchists, anarchy means "not necessarily absence of order, as is generally supposed, but an absence of rule." - An Anarchist FAQ

Anarcho statist here

Why don't you guys take anarcho-statism seriously? it's a voluntary contract between citizens and the state. A voluntaryist state. Slavery rights is allowed, but so is non-slavery and you should mostly just avoid slavery. To make it easier, citizens can collectively sign one large contract of consent. All economies will be allowed, though a voluntary capitalism would be prefered.

This is literally the only anarchy board

I have been searching for active anarchy boards and there is absolutely zero of them. This is literally the only board I could find and it isn't that active. How come no one is that interested in anarchy?

Well there is r/anarchy what a horrific place that is. Every other thread is KILL WHITEY. DON'T PROPAGATE RAPE CULTURE. MISOGYNST

I even replied to one of them and said "What does this have to do with anarchy?" And I got downvoted to oblivion. No one actually talks about anarchy on there.

Anyways, how can we make this board more active?

0chan Part Two: Anarchic Weaboos

Because of this post >>9793 , I'm making a thread for an idea I've been thinking about for awhile now that I expect will gain no traction anyways kek. I think in light of /anarcho/'s increasing stagnation and /leftypol/ turning into a /pol/ bait/Old Left Marxist/Old Left libertarian socialist/leftist meme theory board, it's only become more pertinent. I did however make a post a few months back about this under different circumstances: >>8944

Basically, I have been thinking of making an imageboard sort of along the lines of /leftypol/'s Bunkerchan, but with the express intent of being a space for nihilists and anarchists. Pretty much like what Anokchan used to be. I think this is important because I've come to notice that the anarchist population among the imageboard community has just started to disappear the past few months. You've got a lot of anarchist types on Lainchan, sure, but Lainchan's administration seems to have over and over again turned down any opportunities to take an official political stance for the board - which is fine, since the board itself was never intended to have an explicit political position, and doing this would probably alienate a lot of users. But aside from all the people there who might like an anarchist imageboard, and the other anarchists scattered around the other *chans and the internet at large, it seems like the majority of "anarchists" around the imageboard community are essentially libertarian socialist Old Left types. Not that I have a problem with them per say, but you hear a /leftypol/ ideology being echoed constantly on there: Literally everything bad is rooted in capitalism and materialism, muh New Old Left, muh free speech for fascists, literally everything that isn't about capitalism (and I guess the State too sorta right anarkiddies…) is "IdPol". And that's ignoring the other problems of the board.

I'm trying to avoid sounding like too much of an ideologue here, but as far as I can tell, this way of thinking, this idolizing the left that was, is mostly exclusive to anarchists on /leftypol/ rather than the contemporary anarchist community as a whole.

Thing is, this would take effort to develop, effort to admin, effort to learn to admin a website and git gud at coding and shit - all stuff that I'd like to learn, but that would also be work on my part that I get the impression would probably be wasted unless we could somehow actually get people interested. Plus, it'd cost me money. Bunkerchan is going to be joining a new iteration of the USSC with GETchan, so we could join that, but I think ideally we'd want to get more than just the wider imageboard community involved.

Anyways, any thoughts?

>tl;dr I wanna maybe maybe make an anarchist/nihilist imageboard along the lines of Anokchan because there seems to be a lack of this. wat do

>tfw posts you made months ago are still on /anarcho/ ;_;

Ancap vs. Ancom or global differences

WHAT. THE. ACTUAL. FUCK. is going on here.

I came to this board yesterday the first time and most shit i read about is: mimimi im ayncrap mimimi im ancom, im better. So i wanted to ask if this ayncrap/ancom Struggle is a serious thing in your Country. Some months ago i didn´t even know about the existence of ayncraps. I´ve never heard about it in the local scene. Im from germany so i know the clash of "Anti Imperialisten" (So called Anti Imps/anti imperialists) and "Anti Deutsche " (anti germans) inside the left scene but i never stumbled upon an ayncrap somewhere.

Also i read much words like "pussy" and so on which would be hated in the german scene for not beeing pc. Pc is taken very seriously by the most i think. Much people dont care as hard about it as others but they mostly accept it.

So come on and tell me specialtys of your area.

Is internationalism and anarchism the natural evolutionary step of nationalism?

Because really, the main objection i have to nationalism is it is inherently divisive and dogmatic, its a tool used to divide people in a certain geographical location. But their are some aspects of nationalism and nationalist movements i cant help but support, like their preservation of a person culture and heritage in the face of imperialism and colonialism.

I think their is this misconception that anarchism wants to bring about a global cosmopolitan utopia and bring about a sort of world culture, but obviously this isn't true. In ant kind of anarchist society the culture of the people who live their would be free to further develop and evolve and just becomes more include and no longer separated by artificial lines.

How do you defeat "capitalism" if society still retains the "capitalist mode of production"

Not taking potshots at ayncraps here because syndicalists, Ancoms, mutualists, etc. don't address the industrialization of everything either.

Sure rise up and seize the factories. You still work in a factory for a wage. It doesn't matter if it's a better wage or less hours or more benefits it's still wage slavery.

Just using the factory as an example but this applies to all forms of industry. Whether agriculture or media or medicine or education.

The industrial age is not just a top down imposition of a particular mode of production. It has been internalized by the masses and now seems to be infecting culture and sexuality and identity everything.

Look at Facebook. Its a Friggin factory. Everyone churning out selfies and pictures of their lunch and their kids posed in elaborate performances of cute. Distributed as a "free" service to mindless consumers clicking like and share to more widely distribute these goods to more consumers. Receiving payment in kind from other producers.

Production. Distribution. Consumption.

They've become a mindset. A cultural imperative.

Primitivists have grasped this point. But have decided that the almost complete abandonment of modern tools is the answer. Yet there they are on the internet. Advocating measures they themselves are obviously unwilling to take.

So here's my question I guess

Can you take the tools out of the factory?

Can modern technology be deindustrialized?

And can this be done now without waiting for the glorious day of the revolution that just simply isn't coming?

Michael Schmidt, co-author of Black Flame, *may* be a closet nationalist

>We have some ugly and upsetting news…

>About six months ago, we started hearing some disturbing rumors that one of our authors, Michael Schmidt, was an undercover fascist. Soon after, another one of our authors, Alexander Reid Ross, provided us with actual evidence. We helped him investigate further for several weeks and then put him in touch with another writer. Over the past months, we have received and compiled what we consider to be incontrovertible evidence that Michael Schmidt is a white nationalist trying to infiltrate the anarchist movement.

>Alexander will soon be publishing an article that presents all the details in a more comprehensive manner, but we are not comfortable sitting on this information any longer. We have always drawn strength from the history of anarchism as an internationalist movement concerned with the destruction of capitalism, the state, and hierarchal social relations. Those social relations clearly include racism and white supremacy. We are committed enemies of fascists and their sympathizers. The anarchist movement won’t tolerate their sick credo and, when they are found hiding in our midst, they must be dragged from the shadows.

>We have cancelled Schmidt’s upcoming book and have put the two books of his that we’ve already published out of print. Please stay tuned for the whole story.

RetroShare

Sup comrades. I'm just going to be copypasting this from /leftypol/. Y'all chummers should download and join the /leftypol/ forum and chatroom; we could also make ones for /anarcho/ if you'd like:

http://retroshare.sourceforge.net/

It's a decentralized, secure and (optionally with v0.6 + tor) completely anonymous 'friend2friend' network and application. Main uses are free file-sharing and community building, since it works by pairing friends to each other. More info here: https://8ch.net/netplus/res/3.html

How it works

Download software, create profile, add friends. In order to add friends you need to exchange public keys, so what we usually do is have everyone post their public keys in this thread and everyone adds everyone else.

Why post this on /leftypol//anarcho/?

Because we all know all manner of /pol/tards infiltrate us and try to subvert the board's ideas by creating a false consensus. Retroshare's idea of networking prevents impostors from connecting to the main group, since you can just block any annoying peer from connecting to you (and thus cut off their access to the community). It is by design hard to infiltrate, but easy to discuss and share stuff with.

Join us now, comrades!

Hello, 23 year old here. I've always criticised the acts of government. Hating every party there is because they're all just the same. For the years upon years of ranting I've thought I was out of this social democratic or nationalist looking theocratic powerhouses fighting each other to create their own ideologies oligarchs. No matter which guy elected same thing happened to the people. Poor got poorer and rich got richer, sign of development for them not for me. Other young people around me turned face to apathy, I told them it was wrong to do so but they were drowning upon their powerlessness. I turned face to anarchy, so if I pass away from this degenerate dumpster I pass with my dignity.

I discussed anarchism with my parents but started realising that anarchists arent mentally retarded squirty little kids making trouble, like my like my dad said they were. I realised that, for example Kropotkin was quite a cool guy who was well educated but I would like to ask you some questions I cant find the answer to anywhere else. How do anarchists hope to persuade the military of various countries to lay down their arms if the anarchists only believe in peaceful revolution?

What did you do yesterday or today that would help a revolution take place?

The Society of the Spectacle

Social life is still about appearing instead of having (which was already a degradation from being). For example, being "fresh dipped". A lie has been valued by the powerful for centuries. We have been seeing many spectacular presentations of life, and our lives have not been real. The presentations have gotten so far out of control that even the liars are lying to themselves!

It has long been said that money generalizes need and work so much that common interest and mutual dependence animates the "dead". We are not the ones who are living. Our lifeless productions are, and the broadcast unites us despite our irreconcilable differences. In the manner that prices and sales justify social relationships, images tell us how our relationships are justified.

The spectacle was planned and implemented like a blueprint and a 3D model for a global construction and development project. The market needs to shout this unreality to affirm prefabricated demand and constantly justify the system. The spectacle portrays the dominant system of production, and that system has the ultimate goal of producing that portrayal. The false is a real product while real people contemplate, absorb, and align themselves with the spectacle.

Terrorism

“terrorism is non-state activity that threatens the power relations that prop up the state. Whether it’s direct action that undermines capitalism and animal exploitation or religiously motivated violence against corporate and military targets, what those targeted with terrorism charges share is a value system that rejects the absolute authority of the state and shows a willingness to act on it. That’s why Dylan Roof isn’t a terrorist, nor abortion clinic bombers, nor right-wing paramilitaries in Latin America, nor US drones in Pakistan or Yemen. Those forms of violence, while obviously intended to compel obedience to hierarchies through violence, don’t challenge the values that the US state is based upon. It’s not a difference of tactics or intent; it’s a difference of ideology and interests.”

DARPA GENETIC ENGINEERING

DARPA’s CAPP’s current goal is to discover biotechnological methods that allow soldiers to function without food or sleep for up to 7 days

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), often known as the “mad scientist wing” (Gayle, 2012) of the DoD, has allocated an annual budget of $2 billion to several different projects all working towards building a supersoldier( Posel, 2013, para. 1). The main hope for accomplishing such a feat lies in genetic engineering,

DARPA’s Continuous Assisted Performance Program’s current goal is to discover biotechnological methods that allow soldiers to function without food or sleep for up to seven days (Seal, 2003).

Scientists have looked to the animal kingdom for these answers, with a particular interest in bottlenose dolphins and the sled dogs of the Iditarod. Sam Ridgway, Ph.D. in neurobiology from the University of Cambridge and President of the National Marine Animal Foundation, is conducting research to discover how dolphins remain vigilant for extended durations of time. Scientists have found that these mammals have to ability to practice unihemispheric sleep (Castro, 2003). The phenomena is that while one hemisphere of the brain is asleep, the other half remains alert. When tired, the dolphin simply wakes up the now refreshed portion of its brain while the weary section goes to sleep. Studies starring two bottlenose dolphins have repeatedly demonstrated the animals’ ability to last five days in this state with no decrease in activity or attentiveness. By determining which genes make this inherent trait possible, DARPA hopes to trigger the same ability in its soldiers

DARPA is also attempting to alter the genes that control the body’s metabolism (Posel, 2013, para. 5).

By modifying the rate at which fat is converted into pure energy, soldiers could, in theory, go without food for days. The most promising avenue of inquiry is a project investigating the Huskies and Malamutes of the Iditarod and how they are capable of running thousands of miles without developing extreme debility. The head of the project, Dr. Michael S. Davis, professor of Veterinary Physiology at Oklahoma State University, has discovered that these dogs reserve their fat and glycogen stores by spontaneously changing their metabolic rates. This capability allows the animals to run 100 miles a day with a slowed metabolism similar to the one assumed when sleeping; in less than 24 hours, they are able to switch back to their usual metabolic rate, one that is similar to a man’s (Robson, 2008). If this genetic trait could be adapted to humans, soldiers would have insurmountable endurance and stamina on the battlefield.

Nationalism and Its Effects on Peace in Europe

With global crisis, unemployment, dissatisfaction, poverty and intolerance has increased and with it also nationalism. Political parties with nationalist platforms are rising and gaining more support around the world and Europe is no exception.

In Spain, Italy, and the United Kingdom and across Europe we can see the rise of the right. The financial crisis in the Eurozone and beyond has triggered rising of nationalists and far-right political parties.

The European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI) on 9th of July released a report about the dramatic increase in anti-Semitism, Islamophobia, online hate speech and xenophobic political discourse as the main trends in 2014.

Nationalism can be positive with legitimacy, promotion of nations and inspiration for citizens or negative by creating tensions between different ethnicity and groups in or outside the country. Some negative aspects of ideology or political movement can be seen in the latest football matches in the Balkans, where supporters of team groups have burned many national flags and hooliganism that is the result of long lasting hatred and nationalism on the ground. Every country has its own history and different positions, but still similarities could be found.

The country all news is regarding to in recent times is Greece. A known slogan “Greece for Greeks” is well known in its anti-austerity party. Attacks against minorities and immigrants with racism are seen in one of the European Union (EU) members. Golden Dawn neo-Nazi party is linked to hundreds of violent attacks against minorities.

It is known for anti-immigration, racist-nationalist worldview. With elections being held this year in January the party captured 6.3% of the vote and 17 senate seats in Hellenic parliament and become the country’s third largest party. In 2014 the party won 9.4% of votes in European parliamentary election and with it 3 seats out of 21.

The party has been put on a trial this year for its criminal activity.

Nationalism in Greece has divided citizens and noncitizens to us and them and created the gap between both. With the economic crisis, Greeks debt, overall economic meltdown, unemployment and increasing number of refugees from different countries, the party led by Nikos Michaloliakos has gained more support and caused even greater intolerance to foreign people in need. Unfortunately, they are not the only one spreading intolerance. Many politicians have a stance against immigrants, which shapes the Greeks’ attitude towards nationalism.

Question. As an anarchist, should i work against the state by helping in whatever ways i can to improve the lives of the people around me?

I ask because ive been thinking, should we actually be helping? Lets be real about this for a moment, whatever help an anarchist gives to a society will generally be ignored by the general population, as the general population is usually unaware of anarchist activities.

I think, instead, we should exacerbate the problems that plague us. I think we should make the problems the system creates bigger, worse, and really just fucking disastrous. I say we do this, because i truly believe that unless their is some sort of economic collapse that would naturally occur, nothings going to change, so i say we help make these problems worse and worse and worse, until they are un-ignorable to the general population, and then we give them the solution, the anarchist solution.

Anarchists, i think, at their core (Most ideologies really), is really about helping the world at the end of the day, and in order for things to get better, things must first get much much worse.

Thought?

So guys, has anyone here actually thought up any serious ideas for creating an independent anarchist community somewhere? A good place to start would be to attempt to control a territory about the size of your average American city, which sounds like a lot, but remember, it's not the population that marks the size of a city, most cities aren't that large in terms of square miles.

Several interlocked communities adding up to about 5000 people in one single Autonomous Zone is more than enough people to be a decent sample size, if you will, for an experiment that would test whether or not any of the various anarchist systems would work established throughout an entire country.

I'm a mutualist, but if there aren't enough mutualists around, I'd love to work with some anarcho-communists to test out their economic system to see whether it'd be sustainable and amenable to the principles of freedom.

In 「western-style」 forums, there was no way to prevent a post from rising the thread, as it was thought that only worthless posts wouldn't want it to rise, and that they were better avoided.

Not wanting to be all like, 「look at me! look at me! I made a post,」 was unthinkable.

So was not using names. Why wouldn't someone want to use a name and take credit for their posts?

AnarChan thought experiment

So /anarcho/, I've had some vague thoughts floating in my head for awhile now about 8chan and anarchism, and was wondering for you input and starting a discussion on the matter:

A lot of you are probably aware by now that 8chan has recently had an influx of Plebbit users upset that their liberal dictatorship hugbox is starting to actually affect things they want to talk about. Hotwheels' response to suggestions by users thus far on the possible damage this can cause to the community, and other problems regarding cross-board animosity and competition for the top 25 has basically been what you'd expect from a libertarian. I don't have screencaps of everything he's been saying, but pic related gives you an idea of it.

Basically, he's making recourse to what all radical capitalists believe: People will choose what has the best quality every time, and if something has visibility, power, or popularity, it's the peoples' fault and vote with your wallet (in this case, posting) and blah blah blah all that horseshit.

This has got me thinking: 8chan is certainly not an example of virtual anarchy insofar as it has a hierarchy and is owned by someone who has all the site's content on a server they own, but still, as far as freedom - convenience - usership goes, 8chan is probably the closest thing right now to virtual anarchy that would require you to host your own website on some sort of community-run Internet alternative meshnet and get a grand total of maybe a dozen regular users (right now, at least).

Suppose, though, that there were a chan founded by anarchists, allowing for even more freedom than 8chan and without this lassiez-faire bullshit that allows for hostile shitposting boards like /pol/ and /intl/ or relentlessly paranoid and competitive boards like /cuteboys/ to stay in the top 25 and ban or raid any other boards that make it into the top 25.

What would such a chan look like? Is this kind of thing possible? I'm just interested in generating discussion on the matter; in a practical sense, it's probably better for us to stay on a site with more traffic rather than try to secede and get zero people posting.

>tl;dr A *chan that is based on principles of anarchy and run by anarchists rather than a libertarian, is it possible and what would it look like?

>and we shall call it… AnarChan

>or maybe 0chan

World Less Violent?

Armies and Governments Are No Longer Our Biggest Threats to Peace

>The argument that we are now a less violent world is compelling, but it raises more questions than it provides answers. In Australia, while murder rates have been steady for decades, assaults are on the rise – from 623 per 100,000 in 1996 to 840 per 100,000 in 2007. More young women are appearing before the courts than ever before for violent offences, and domestic violence has seen a resurgence despite the media awareness surrounding the issue.

>In NSW, the problem of street violence has been brought to the fore recently by a number of high profile cases in the media. Young men who have either been killed (in the case of Thomas Kelly, who was fatally punched in Sydney’s Kings Cross in July 2012) or put into comas after being “king hit”, illustrate the extent to which street violence is prevalent in some areas in Australia’s major urban centres.

>The statistics tell us about the immediate causes of the violence, but very little about the mindset of the young perpetrators, usually men, and why they ultimately become violent.

>There is a complex relation between violence and public drinking, which is embedded in Australia’s history and culture. Regular violence in public drinking locations cannot simply be blamed on rowdy patrons or excused as something natural and unstoppable, and nor can it simply be blamed on irresponsible drinking. The drinking environment is an evolving historical and cultural product, which can be left unchanged, or altered for the better through education and legislation.

>The outcry against these indiscriminate acts of violence demonstrates that the wider public finds them unacceptable. Attitudes towards violence are constantly changing, but not always in a positive direction. In the cultural domain, for example, schlock horror movies are more explicit than ever before and leave films like Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho and Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction - both of which caused a stir in their day - looking very mild in comparison.

>Conversely, what one generation may have accepted as perfectly banal (corporal punishment against children in the 1950s, for instance) may shock another, later generation.

https://archive.is/uKNd6

> Four key components of peace got worse in the 2014 Index, which gives us a picture of world peacefulness in the year prior. Domestic terrorism has increased significantly in many parts of the world since the start of the Iraq War. In the past year, the number of people killed by conflict inside their own country, including civilians, has also risen. More people were displaced within their countries or fled as refugees this past year than the year before. And in the 2014 Index, the score for ongoing wars has gotten worse—but that includes internal and external conflicts and so the data behind this indicator is likely to be consistent with the shift away from international conflicts.

>Looking at more than just the last year, the same trend holds true. The GPI report includes a section on trends in peacefulness from 2008 to 2014, which demonstrates that what the IEP calls “internal peacefulness” is getting worse. The largest changes have been observed in weapons imports and weapons exports—both measures of “external peace.” But factors like each country’s number of heavy and nuclear weapons and of armed service personnel have improved, showing that external peace as a whole is getting better. Levels of internal conflict have varied, but it is really safety and security, more so than war, that’s driving the decline in world peace. Terrorist activity has gotten worse. Homicide rates improved in 2014, but because of data collection challenges the IEP reports that the long-term trend of increasing homicides and violent crime is more reliable than any single year figure. And perceptions of criminality, the likelihood of violent demonstrations, incarceration, and access to small arms have worsened as well.

>In short, the nature of peace is changing. Breakdowns in peacefulness are becoming more decentralized, and peacefulness relies more heavily on social structures and non-state actors as opposed to exclusively governments and formal militaries. Peace is becoming more democratic, if you will.

>Given the severity of organized, inter-state conflict in the 20th century, the trend of declining militarization and international war implies that we have made progress in solving 20th-century problems.

But is even that true?

There is a bias that ignores all the wars in the ""third world"" and all the ethnic conflicts from immigration.

Thorstein Veblen

>Representative government means, chiefly, representation of business interests ….for there is a naive, unquestioning persuasion … among the … people to the effect that, in some occult way, the material interests of the populace coincide with the pecuniary interests of those business men who live within the scope of the same set of governmental contrivances. This persuasion is an article of popular metaphysics, in that it rests on an uncritically assumed solidarity of interests, rather than on an insight into the relation of business enterprise to the material welfare of those classes who are not primarily business men. This persuasion is particularly secure among the more conservative portion of the community, the business men, superior and subordinate, together with the professional classes, as contrasted with those … portions of the community who are tainted with socialistic or anarchistic notions. But since the conservative element comprises the citizens of substance and weight, and indeed the effective majority of law-abiding citizens, it follows that, with the sanction of the great body of the people, even including those who have no pecuniary interests to serve in the matter, constitutional government has, in the main, become a department of the business organization and is guided by the advice of the business men. The government has, of course, much else to do besides administering the general affairs of the business community; but in most of its work, even in what is not ostensibly directed to business ends, it is under the surveillance of the business interests.

Theory of Business Enterprise is a great classic work I think every Anarchist should read; it's over 100 years old but very relevant still.

International Bank of Azerbaijan First Victim of Devaluation

>However, problems during the financial crisis of 2008-2009 were experienced not only by IBA. The then director of the Moscow office of Fitch Ratings for Financial Institutions Vladimir Markelov told Turan that in January-June 2009 asset quality deteriorated in all the Azerbaijani banks. The worst situation in this respect was observed in IBA.

>In the structure of problem loans of IBA 18.6% of them were overdue and 9.2% - restructured, on which the recipients once again came to agreement with the bank to change the terms of payment.

>The Chairman of the NGO Center for Economic Research Gubad Ibadoglu believes that this problem occurs in the IBA and other domestic banks due to their poor management. According to him, financial managers should take into account the global financial crisis and be able to manage risks in the crisis.

>More than half (50.2%) of the shares in IBA are owned by the state. According to Ibadoglu, in the case of deterioration of the situation the government will take measures to rescue the bank. The expert believes that dealing with banks through lending will give only temporary results and there is a need for more drastic measures.

> IBA is the only bank where a majority stake is owned by the state, which is not in a hurry with its privatization. For unclear reasons, the government put aside the roadmap for restructuring, reform and privatization of IBA, prepared by the IMF in 2012. Its implementation, according to the IMF, will open opportunities for the development of private banks, as well as diversifying the risks facing the country's banking system.

>In Azerbaijan there were 46 banks. And IBA no longer holds a special position - it is bypassed by Pasha Bank, Capital Bank and others. At the moment, the ratio of the assets of Azerbaijani banks to GDP is relatively low - about 30%.

Having trouble understanding

I am having some trouble understanding the ideas behind anarchy. The philosophy is great, everyone getting along and self monitoring and shit. But I still don't get some things.

>with the lack of state comes a lack of regulation, meaning the entirety of a community can fall prey to the power developed over time by the strongest and smartest people

>entrepreneurship rewards those who create products and services that improve quality of life. Taking away this award system slows development and progress.

>no centralization means effectively mob rule, simply a far less refined version of democracy

>a community based on mutually agreed peace can easily fall victim to one or two people who have the ability to defend themselves

>no regulated infastructure means no properly maintained homes and roads unless necessary staff volunteer and agree to follow some sort of leadership

>if the internet is still available in such a scenario, there would be no way to enforce net neutrality and the world wide web is now entirely under the control of service providers

>ayncrapsim leads to oligarchies, ancommunism requires regulation to maintain

Etc. Etc. Anyone have any answers to stuff like this? I haven't exactly dug into the literature.

>Queer anarchism (or Anarcha-queer) is an anarchist school of thought which advocates anarchism and social revolution as a means of gay liberation and abolition of homophobia, lesbophobia, transmisogyny, biphobia, transphobia, heteronormativity, heterosexism, patriarchy, and the gender binary.

The State sucks

If you disagree with the rulers then you must be sick.

You are not allowed to disagree.

Many people with severe anxiety and/or depression are also anti-authoritarians. Often a major pain of their lives that fuels their anxiety and/or depression is fear that their contempt for illegitimate authorities will cause them to be financially and socially marginalized; but they fear that compliance with such illegitimate authorities will cause them existential death.

>I have also spent a great deal of time with people who had at one time in their lives had thoughts and behavior that were so bizarre that they were extremely frightening for their families and even themselves; they were diagnosed with schizophrenia and other psychoses, but have fully recovered and have been, for many years, leading productive lives. Among this population, I have not met one person whom I would not consider a major anti-authoritarian. Once recovered, they have learned to channel their anti-authoritarianism into more constructive political ends, including reforming mental health treatment.

>Many anti-authoritarians who earlier in their lives were diagnosed with mental illness tell me that once they were labeled with a psychiatric diagnosis, they got caught in a dilemma. Authoritarians, by definition, demand unquestioning obedience, and so any resistance to their diagnosis and treatment created enormous anxiety for authoritarian mental health professionals; and professionals, feeling out of control, labeled them “noncompliant with treatment,” increased the severity of their diagnosis, and jacked up their medications. This was enraging for these anti-authoritarians, sometimes so much so that they reacted in ways that made them appear even more frightening to their families.

>There are anti-authoritarians who use psychiatric drugs to help them function, but they often reject psychiatric authorities’ explanations for why they have difficulty functioning. So, for example, they may take Adderall (an amphetamine prescribed for ADHD), but they know that their attentional problem is not a result of a biochemical brain imbalance but rather caused by a boring job. And similarly, many anti-authoritarians in highly stressful environments will occasionally take prescribed benzodiazepines such as Xanax even though they believe it would be safer to occasionally use marijuana but can’t because of drug testing on their job

_It has been my experience that many anti-authoritarians labeled with psychiatric diagnoses usually don’t reject all authorities, simply those they’ve assessed to be illegitimate ones, which just happens to be a great deal of society’s authorities._

Maintaining the Societal Status Quo

>Americans have been increasingly socialized to equate inattention, anger, anxiety, and immobilizing despair with a medical condition, and to seek medical treatment rather than political remedies. What better way to maintain the status quo than to view inattention, anger, anxiety, and depression as biochemical problems of those who are mentally ill rather than normal reactions to an increasingly authoritarian society.

The reality is that depression is highly associated with societal and financial pains. One is much more likely to be depressed if one is unemployed, underemployed, on public assistance, or in debt (for documentation, see “400% Rise in Anti-Depressant Pill Use”). And ADHD labeled kids do pay attention when they are getting paid, or when an activity is novel, interests them, or is chosen by them (documented in my book Commonsense Rebellion).

In an earlier dark age, authoritarian monarchies partnered with authoritarian religious institutions. When the world exited from this dark age and entered the Enlightenment, there was a burst of energy. Much of this revitalization had to do with risking skepticism about authoritarian and corrupt institutions and regaining confidence in one’s own mind. We are now in another dark age, only the institutions have changed. Americans desperately need anti-authoritarians to question, challenge, and resist new illegitimate authorities and regain confidence in their own common sense.

In every generation there will be authoritarians and anti-authoritarians. While it is unusual in American history for anti-authoritarians to take the kind of effective action that inspires others to successfully revolt, every once in a while a Tom Paine, Crazy Horse, or Malcolm X come along. So authoritarians financially marginalize those who buck the system, they criminalize anti-authoritarianism, they psychopathologize anti-authoritarians, and they market drugs for their “cure.”

Therefore if you are for a nationalist government you are against modern and illegitimate multicultural governments.

TLDR Nationalism desires the same fate for modern multiculti establishments as Anarchism does

"The reason given for usury laws is, that they protect the poor from the extortions of the rich. But this reason is a false one-for there is no more extortion in loaning capital to the best bidder, than in selling a horse, or renting a house to the best bidder."

The historic truth project

Hello /anarcho/,

I am gathering historic truths, mainly relating to the horrible nature of states and more importantly - their consistent failure throughout history. But, I do not know if this is entirely true. As far as i've noticed, a large amount of actual progress is just done by independent organizations like msf.org and so on and so forth.

Coming back to my original query, I am looking for information to write a paper for all anarchists and potential anarchists alike. A compilation similar to :
https://www.hawaii.edu/powerkills/MURDER.HTM

Any information even remotely related would be fine. Like say the attempt to ban alcohol has been tried in many countries but repeatedly failed. (therefore we can conclude that this method of doing things is shit)

Another example is that ALL countries which treated drug users are patients saw a sharp decline in violence and "drug hoods" etc, as opposed to ALL countries which treated drug users as criminals, saw an increase in violence and other criminal activities related to drugs, but at the same time saw no drop in overall drug usage.

http://www.healthpovertyaction.org/campaigns/rethink-the-war-on-drugs/
(scroll down and read the PDF report)

There was also a UN committee consisting of South American PMs etc which came to the same conclusion.

This paper should also serve as an important reminder on why history is useful and on what contexts. With a focus on failures of state actions.

Thanks

>"I remember saying once to Arthur Koestler, ‘History stopped in 1936’, at which he nodded in immediate understanding. We were both thinking of totalitarianism in general, but more particularly of the Spanish civil war. Early in life I have noticed that no event is ever correctly reported in a newspaper, but in Spain, for the first time, I saw newspaper reports which did not bear any relation to the facts, not even the relationship which is implied in an ordinary lie. I saw great battles reported where there had been no fighting, and complete silence where hundreds of men had been killed. I saw troops who had fought bravely denounced as cowards and traitors, and others who had never seen a shot fired hailed as the heroes of imaginary victories; and I saw newspapers in London retailing these lies and eager intellectuals building emotional superstructures over events that had never happened. I saw, in fact, history being written not in terms of what happened but of what ought to have happened according to various ‘party lines’. Yet in a way, horrible as all this was, it was unimportant. It concerned secondary issues — namely, the struggle for power between the Comintern and the Spanish left-wing parties, and the efforts of the Russian Government to prevent revolution in Spain. But the broad picture of the war which the Spanish Government presented to the world was not untruthful. The main issues were what it said they were. But as for the Fascists and their backers, how could they come even as near to the truth as that? How could they possibly mention their real aims? Their version of the war was pure fantasy, and in the circumstances it could not have been otherwise."

>"This kind of thing is frightening to me, because it often gives me the feeling that the very concept of objective truth is fading out of the world. After all, the chances are that those lies, or at any rate similar lies, will pass into history. How will the history of the Spanish war be written? If Franco remains in power his nominees will write the history books, and (to stick to my chosen point) that Russian army which never existed will become historical fact, and schoolchildren will learn about it generations hence. But suppose Fascism is finally defeated and some kind of democratic government restored in Spain in the fairly near future; even then, how is the history of the war to be written? What kind of records will Franco have left behind him? Suppose even that the records kept on the Government side are recoverable — even so, how is a true history of the war to be written? For, as I have pointed out already, the Government, also dealt extensively in lies. From the anti-Fascist angle one could write a broadly truthful history of the war, but it would be a partisan history, unreliable on every minor point. Yet, after all, some kind of history will be written, and after those who actually remember the war are dead, it will be universally accepted. So for all practical purposes the lie will have become truth."

>"I know it is the fashion to say that most of recorded history is lies anyway. I am willing to believe that history is for the most part inaccurate and biased, but what is peculiar to our own age is the abandonment of the idea that history could be truthfully written. In the past people deliberately lied, or they unconsciously coloured what they wrote, or they struggled after the truth, well knowing that they must make many mistakes; but in each case they believed that ‘facts’ existed and were more or less discoverable. And in practice there was always a considerable body of fact which would have been agreed to by almost everyone. If you look up the history of the last war in, for instance, the Encyclopaedia Britannica, you will find that a respectable amount of the material is drawn from German sources. A British and a German historian would disagree deeply on many things, even on fundamentals, but there would still be that body of, as it were, neutral fact on which neither would seriously challenge the other. It is just this common basis of agreement, with its implication that human beings are all one species of animal, that totalitarianism destroys. Nazi theory indeed specifically denies that such a thing as ‘the truth’ exists. There is, for instance, no such thing as ‘Science’. There is only ‘German Science’, ‘Jewish Science’, etc. The implied objective of this line of thought is a nightmare world in which the Leader, or some ruling clique, controls not only the future but the past. If the Leader says of such and such an event, ‘It never happened’ — well, it never happened. If he says that two and two are five — well, two and two are five. This prospect frightens me much more than bombs — and after our experiences of the last few years that is not a frivolous statement."

Human nature

We've all heard the silly misconceptions and myths presented as if they were a part of who we "naturally" are, this thread is for discussing human nature bullshit.

"As theoretical possibilities, one can envisage that man might be genetically determined as aggressive or submissive, warlike or peaceful, territorial or wanderer, selfish or generous, mean or good. Are any of these possibilities likely to be realized? Would the fixation of any of these dispositions, so that they become uncontrollable urges or drives, increase the adaptiveness of a species that relies on culture for it's survival? I believe that the answers to those questions are in the negative." - Theodosius Dobzhansky (evolutionary biologist)

Race:
"Humanity cannot be classified into discrete geographic categories with absolute boundaries. The human features which have universal biological value for the survival of the species are not known to occur more frequently in one population than in any other. Therefore it is meaningless from the biological point of view to attribute a general inferiority or superiority to this or to that race. The human species has a past rich in migration, in territorial expansions, and in contractions. As a consequence, we are adapted to many of the earth's environments in general, but to none in particular. Partly as a result of gene flow, the hereditary characteristics of human populations are in a state of perpetual flux. Distinctive local populations are continually coming into and passing out of existence. Such populations do not correspond to breeds of domestic animals, which have been produced by artificial selection over many generations for specific human purposes. The biological consequences of mating depend only on the individual genetic makeup of the couple, and not on their racial classifications. There is no necessary concordance between biological characteristics and culturally defined groups. On every continent, there are diverse populations that differ in language, economy, and culture. There is no national, religious, linguistic or cultural group or economic class that constitutes a race… there is no causal linkage between these physical and behavioral traits, and therefore it is not justifiable to attribute cultural characteristics to genetic inheritance. The genetic capacity for intellectual development is one of the biological traits of our species essential for its survival. This genetic capacity is known to differ among individuals. The peoples of the world today appear to possess equal biological potential for assimilating any human culture. Racist political doctrines find no foundation in scientific knowledge concerning modern or past human populations." - http://physanth.org/about/position-statements/biological-aspects-race/

There are no black, white, asian etc. races, it is nought but a social construct and a damaging one at that. The idea that there are a set of biological characteristics that divide us into races is absurd and to think that differences in disease patterns and sport prove that they exist is ridiculous (black people are good at basketball etc.). I will add stuff about aggression later if I feel like it.

Individual anarchists (Terrorists and reformists)

Those who are instinctively against all forms of authority and organization; believing organized power of any kind is a contradiction with anarchist principles. Individual anarchists usually follow two distinct paths of practice: (1) Reformists who stress the need for education and social awareness to reform society and achieve a mutualistic, laissez-faire capitalism to promote completely free competition. While they may support strikes and various social protests, they do so spontaneously — they are against organizing groups or parties to carry out such actions. (2) Terrorists ("propaganda of the deed") who seek to arouse revolutionary terror in the masses and government, to introduce periodic states of anarchy to instruct and convince the masses to spontaneously participate in overthrowing the government.

SYRIZA is in a big big trouble if anything happens to these guys. This is how you unmask a "communist" power in couple months. Trust your analysis and keep practising them.

The moment the following words were written, we’re on the 25th day of hunger strike, for the liberation of Christos and Gerasimos Tsakalos’ mother, as well as the second one’s girlfriend.

The pre-trial detention of our two comrades’ relatives was an act of revenge by the judicial power against us, in retaliation for the escape we had prepared, with the bombing of the prison.

Now, reaching a tipping point between life and death, we want to share some thoughts with brothers and sisters, accomplices, comrades and anarchists all over the world. Of course, we know that upgrades of repression does not occur only in the Greek territory. It has already been applied in several countries, wishing to avenge anarchist deniers of the existent. Recently, in Chile, cops wanted to implicate the mother of the comrade Juan Aliste (“Security” Case) to a case of escape attempt of her son and his comrades. Moreover, in Spain, through Operation “Pandora”, when comrades from the friendship circle of anarchist prisoner Monica Caballero were targeted, while relatives of the anarchist Tamara Sol, in Chile, during their visit in prison, suffered the revengeful sadistic “care” of the penal officers who wanted to inflict humiliating body searches on them.

These attacks against relatives and friends of the anarchist prisoners seek to form an impassable moat of isolation around us. What the arrests, the verdicts and the prison bars failed to achieve, the emotional blackmail and the locking up of our beloved ones in the cells of democracy comes to accomplish. The blackmail is clear: we either make truce, or our relatives remain in prison. We’re not going to sign any paper of repentance nor capitulate with power. We remain unrepentant anarchists and every day power keeps our people as hostages, the wolf of negation and attack festers more and more inside us…

We know that several comrades around the world, with whom we are connected through the complicity of the anarchist action, feel numb towards the choice of hunger strike. As some close comrades from Croatia wrote to us, hunger strike, posing demands on power, in some sense, acknowledges it when asks for their satisfaction. Somebody else could say the hunger strike looks like a reliance on emotions, which nourishes the traders of hope and humanism to play political games on our backs. We understand some concerns related to the method of the hunger strike as, in the past, we have shared them with each other. Besides, in several cases when we experienced the revenge of power upon us, we chose to act in a different way and not by hunger strike. To put it simply: to war, we answer back with war. Because our choice is always the attack. But now we’re not talking about ourselves. The hostages in prison are our relatives now. This is why we chose a hunger strike, to publicly expose the ugliness and morbidity of power. We are on the 25th day of hunger strike already and we don’t recognise a millimeter of donated ground by power to us. Besides, we are aware that freedom is conquered through the violence of our own actions and won’t be given away by its laws. But our relatives do not share the war we have declared against power, so they won’t share our imprisonment. This is why we demand their immediate release from the cells of democracy.

Anarchy and Muh Sciens: Non-shitposty Addition

I realize there's already a thread that's been posted relating to anarchism and science, but the thread is shitposting and I have a different domain of inquiry within the topic of science:

I had a professor - who is a Marxist but is sympathetic to anarchism at least - who once summarized his objections to anarchism as: "If anarchists can DIY oncology then I'll join them"

I'm not one of those "OH YEA ANARCHISM CAN'T WORK BECUZ THE ROADS WON'T GET BUILT!!1!", but I think this does raise an interesting point: How would an anarchist society have things like oncology, or aerospace programs, or even an Internet - things that, in our current society, require massive, coordinated efforts, large amounts of resources, and a significant amount of technical expertise?

I don't believe this is impossible, but I'm curious what potential answers one could give as to how things like this would be possible in a society without hierarchies.

Gather 'round, comrades, we need to talk

Alright /anarcho/, it's time to address a problem our board has been experiencing as of late.
To put it shortly, our board has been discreetly raided by shitposters, shills, and otherwise ideologically challenged folk. It's time we do something about it.

First off, the Board Admin has given no sign of life even though the rules get systematically broken. I am not sure if he is doing it on purpose to make our board more 'Anarchic', but either way I honestly prefer such an arrangement. If we have any hopes of achieving revolution, it appropriate we learn to endure and deal with these idiots by ourselves without the aid of authorities.

So what I am essentially doing, I guess, is calling for organization. For starters, these are some principles we should adhere to at all times (they are mostly a re-statement of the board guidelines, but I guess we could all use a reminder):

Hide bait threads, ignore bait posters, do not reply to bait posts. I mean this. Ignore the trolls and they will soon go bait on more turbulent waters.

If (or when) the board gains enough traction and gets enough attention for kiddie fidders to start spamming our boards with their garbage, report them on sight. If due to Volunteer shortage they aren't gone after a reasonable period, report them to >>>/meta/

Keep ancap, minarchism and manarchism discussion on threads specifically dedicated to the discussion. This goes for other controversial schools of Anarchy as well.
Right now, the specific threads are:
Ancap >>3178
Minarchism >>4126
Manarchism >>3926
Ignore every other thread relating to these topics. Ignore attempts at derailing on other threads. Stay on topic.
Blatant attempts at discrediting Anarchy, or specific schools, by means of strawmen or personal attacks, by shills who clearly have no intention to have actual discussion, should be ignored. Engage debate only with posters who show interest in honest arguments.

Encourage quality threads, write quality posts. Go to the catalog and post on any of the worthwhile threads that have been drowned on the sea of piss that has flooded /anarcho/ for quite some time. If you have something interesting to share about Anarchy, don't hesitate to do so. Let's get real discussion going.

Naturally, I don't expect shitbags to cooperate on this, but to all true Anarchists out there, regardless of your philosophical inclination, let us work together to save our board from the cancer that's killing it.

What's the viewpoint of anarchists and science, I seem a little confused here. From what I see that there's a large amount of males in science. Let's say that the way these institutions work only makes way for men, it's only a argument against hierarchy, or at best social norms. This very well has nothing to do with scientific knowledge that has been produced in itself.

Obscurantism is a fairly common thing I see in most fields, including science(wilhelm reichs orgon energy seems pretty false to me). Most mainstream information produced by most of these fields is just obscurantist crap. However, to me, it seems like mainstream science isn't all that obscurantic at all. Thanks to Occam's razor and the scientific method.

Often I see anarchists go against mainstream versions of science. Is it because they merely fail to understand it?
I can assure you, scientists like Norman Borlaug have done tremendous good to humans(maybe not nature, could be debated).

I may be entirely wrong here about my observations, so feel free to correct me.

Alright /anarcho/, let's assume the Revolution has happened. The President, Congress, and all of the U.S. Government is long gone. Now what? What do we do? How will we rise from the ashes? Please define what you think would be the ideal new government to rebuild the crumbled America.

>What will the basis for our government be? (e.g. democracy, monarchy, republic)

>Who will lead this nation, and how will they be chosen?

>How will laws be made?

>What inalienable rights will citizens have?

>How will those rights be protected?

>How will we keep the government from becoming corrupted again?

How will we deal with current hot topic issues (e.g. lgbt rights, immigration, drug laws, etc.)

for a new misunderstanding of overstanding

i just wanted to stop by and let you guys know that you're all a bunch of faggots. most of you are ignorant, contrary, sectarian, completely blinded by dogma, largely uneducated, and thoroughly butthurt. you're a bunch of platformists, straight up communists (no an-), capitalists (no an-), there's at least one liberal in there, and maybe one actual intellectual on the entire board. the mod is pretty fash for an anarchist. all you do is troll each other and broadcast your own butthurt. there isn't an active thread that didn't start as shitposting and immediately degenerate into whiny namecalling bullshit.

but that's ok. that's pretty much anarchism for you. maybe anarchism's greatest strength is the fact that no two anarchists in the world can get along with each other. it could be that the very ignorance and apathy that prevents so much as an interesting discussion in an anarchist forum are the exact qualities that might make anarchism possible.

if no two people can agree with each other then there's shit chance of them forming any sort of a state. if anarchists spend all their time squabbling with each other over petty bullshit then no one is going to have the time let alone the wherewithal to oppress anyone else.

obviously a lot of people got it badly wrong thinking that anarchism could ever be any sort of an organized unanimous philosophy. platformism indeed! haa!

not only are people who are hardheaded self superior fucksticks attracted to anarchism because "fuck you don't tell me what to do goddamnit!!". but anarchism could only be pulled off by a bunch of hardheaded self superior fucksticks. precisely because "fuck you don't tell me what to do goddamnit!!"

so basically i just wanted to pop in the door and let you guys know how fucking proud i am of you. you pack of bastards couldn't drive your own fingers up your own asses let alone allow anyone else to tell you whether you could or not. i've never seen a pack of mindless arbitrary ungovernable snarky hilarious lovable shitstains as the likes of you in all my life.

god help me i hope never do again. but don't let anyone tell you you're not doing good work here. especially not me for god's sake i'm the OP. and OP is obviously a fucking faggot.

Ideological bias.

So we have a number of left-wingers defending net neutrality.

My question for left-anarchists is how they view the current state of the Internet.

To me, the Internet unadulterated is the very definition of an "anarcho"-capitalistic society. We have generated some de facto means of exchange and coordinate voluntarily.

If society functioned as the Internet does, would you object?

Meditation with reactionaries is anti-anarchist.

Capitalists, nationalists, statists, authoritarians, fascists, monarchists and all other entryists are opportunist reactionaries. They intend to destroy our ideology with their reactionary deception and political manipulation. They are a cancer on anarchism and society (by preventing the organization of anarchism itself) and must be fought whenever the chance.

Individualists, egoists, primitivists, postleftists and all other lifestylists are consistent reactionaries. They hold a bourgeois view of life and bourgeois social values. They don't hold a view of community that is social, but rather individual, in the worst form of petty bourgeoisie. They misplace their alienation, instead of identifying it as a product of relations, they identity it as their way of life.

Christian, jewish, satanist, buddhinst, muslim, and other religious forms of anarchism are reactionary too. They are theologists who seek to impose a form of state by manner of religion. Reactionary metaphysics are an obstacle to true emancipation of the masses.

Synthesisists and anadjectivists are mediating reactionaries. Union of two conflicting ideologies always gives prevalence to the most backward one. The synthesis cannot exist but as the expression of the negative.

The passion for destruction is a creative passion too.

The only chance to create anarchism is through the organization of the working masses. We need the mutualists, collectivists, syndicalists, communists, platformists, and other social anarchists to organize the working class and themselves. They are the only truly revolutionary form of anarchism. They are the negative in which freedom can be found only.

Revolutionary anarchists must rebel against all forms of theology, metaphysics, authoritarianism, bourgeoisie, and reactionary mediation.

Only then can social revolution truly materialize.
Which leads me to my next question:
WHY AREN'T YOU A SPECIFIST YET?

Q&A

In the interest of strengthening the collaboration among the posters of this board, and increasing their theoretical, practical and argumentative skills, I've decided to make this Q&A thread.
Here, newish, less-read and less-experienced can ask questions about theory and history, as well as advice, to resident oldfags of the anarchist struggle.

Here is an example:

> Q: Is it true that Makhno was an asshole to the railway workers of Ukraine?

> A: Patently false. That is entirely a bolshevik fabrication used to justify their regime's actions against the libertarian communists of Ukraine.
> A short article by Iain McKay (author of the AFAQ) does a good job at explaining may charges made by the bolsheviks against Makhno: http://anarchism.pageabode.com/anarcho/on-the-bolshevik-myth
> It should be noted that the article is a response to an ISR article by Jason Yanowitz ( http://www.isreview.org/issues/53/makhno.shtml )

> Relevant quotes from the article:

> "Then there is Makhno’s advice to the railway workers. Well, that is the key thing – it was advice as he thought that working class people had to solve their own problems by themselves, through their own organisations. In contrast, Trotsky imposed martial law on them along strict military and bureaucratic lines. One-man management or workers’ control? Which is more socialist? And which the railway workers preferred? And which worked better, given the railway network totally collapsed after Trotsky got his way with it? Needless to say, in spite of the Bolshevik track record of breaking strikes, disbanding soviets, suppressing freedom of organisation, assembly and speech and imposing political and economic dictatorship onto the working class, Yanowitz still tries to argue that it was the Makhnovists who were anti-working class rather than the Bolsheviks!"
> "Significantly, the one-man management imposed by the Bolsheviks made things worse. On the railways, for example, abolishing the workers' committees resulted in more confusion, isolation and ignorance of local conditions. It got so bad that "a number of local Bolshevik officials . . . began in the fall of 1918 to call for the restoration of workers' control, not for ideological reasons, but because workers themselves knew best how to run the line efficiently, and might obey their own central committee's directives if they were not being constantly countermanded." (William G. Rosenberg, Workers' Control on the Railroads, pp. D1208-9) Leninist wishful thinking and fantasy aside, the destruction of the Russian economy under the weight of centralisation confirmed the anarchist argument on the importance decentralisation, from the bottom-up organising and federalism."
> The work Workers' Control on the Railroads by William G. Rosenberg is a good read on this ( http://www.jstor.org/discover/10.2307/1876231?sid=211054847941010 ).

Try to make your questions as concrete as possible, so it can be satisfactorily answered in a few paragraphs at most.

The Archic

Story time /anarcho/

Once upon a time, in a kingdom situated between two seas, the people kept a certain great monster, called an archic. This archic was a most ferocious beast with great iron claws and a mouth large enough to swallow a dozen men at a gulp. The people held this frightful monster in great esteem, altho it was a great burden to them, for it had to be fed constantly upon the fat of the land, and demanded human flesh and blood, as well as the choice fruits of the soil, and was always hungry.

This savage beast had to be securely chained, and a vast number of men, called archons, or officers of the archic, were required to feed and care for the monster. Every once in a while the archic would break his chain and do no end of mischief among the people; and at all times he had to have human blood to satisfy his appetite.

Altho the people feared the archic greatly, they agreed that he was a necessary evil, and very useful to keep other evil-doers quiet, for when a man did anything not approved by the people, they gave him to the archic. It thus happened that, if a man was very wealthy, he could appease the appetite of the beast with such things as it liked to feed upon, and thus escape himself; but when a poor man, who had not the means to appease the monster’s appetite, fell into its clutches he was apt to fare rather badly.

But the people, tho they agreed that the archic was a useful and necessary evil, were not satisfied with the manner in which it was kept, and they were continually devising new methods of feeding it, and of utilizing its usefulness.

Some wanted to curtail its activity as much as possible, while others wished to lengthen its chain, and give it more scope and power. But there were a few individuals who said that the monster ought to be killed. These persons were called Anarchists; and the vast majority of the people regarded them as wicked. And especially the archons, or keepers of the archic, who said that the Anarchists should be given to the archic as a sacrifice to law and order.

But the Anarchists continued to reason with the people, and at last so many of them were convinced, that they begun to ignore the archic, and refused to contribute to its support. The result was that the archic, deprived of its daily supply of food, sickened and died; and when it was no more, the people discovered that it had been a great curse, an unmixed evil that was not in the least necessary to their happiness, but on the contrary, had made life miserable for all the people without their knowing the cause. And there was great rejoicing, and everybody declared that they had always been Anarchists to the third and forth generation of ancestors.

Greece general

Okay, so a lot of shit is going down over at Greece.

The parliament dissolved a few months ago, now the left coalition party SYRIZA was elected in majority, has already formed alliances with right-nationalist parties, has abandoned their revolutionary program and gone reformist.
There are currently three radical alternatives for the Greek workers: the first one is the other notorious left party in Greece, the KKE, a highly sectarian (and obviously authoritarian) stalinist party. Another is the Golden Dawn, a fascist party.
Then there is, of course, the huge anarchist movement of Greece.

What should the anarchists in Greece do to consolidate the power of the worker masses?
KKE and Golden Dawn are already opposed to us, and have taken measures against us. I suspect SYRIZA, holding the parliament now, have a similar position.

Also any stories or news regarding the problematic Greek political climate would be appreciated.

If you are feeling really inspired, we could use an article in the /anarcho/ wiki: https://anarchism.orain.org/wiki/Main_Page

Isn't the new infinity board a little taste of common ownership anarchism??

I wanted to post this here because I've been thinking about this idea for a while, and some guy has finally made it.

>>>/infinity/

"Instead of being owned by one guy, everybody on this board is the Board Owner! The username is Anyone, and the password is 0. Since the board is owned by all, everyone has a say in how it is run, just as it should be"

An additional piece of info is that HW locked the admin password so that no one person can lock out control.

Doesn't this match the communal ownership of the social-anarchist commune? All are mods, and the workers as a collective have equal access to govern free of hierarchical authority.

Wouldn't it be a good idea to set up a social anarchist majority there and use our direct democratic power to out vote /pol/ types that might try and come in.

We could have some sort of code to identify proper socialists and anarchists, and then together only use access the mod abilities to ban non-socialist reactionary forces.

Whatdya say?!
