I made a website. It's a link aggregator focused on the intersection of technology and anarchy, though it can also just be about either of those things. Right now it's mostly just some @news links I used to test it a week ago. If you would like to use it or try to break it or whatever, I'd appreciate the help.

"This connection is untrusted" says Firefox. Care to explain, OP? Anyone else who went ahead anyway and confirm it's safe?

Not OP, but it's a self-signed certificate. Meaning OP did not pay for a company to vouch for their identity.
The connection is still encrypted, and if OP tells us the certificate's identifier we can still manually confirm that it's indeed their site behind the connection.

The worst thing that can happen is that you are being fed files from an extraneous source. Which you are already, given that it's the first time you've heard about this site.

Oh, sorry yeah I should explain. That's an SSL error. SSL (or TLS actually but everyone still calls it SSL) is the protocol used to encrypt web traffic, you can tell you're using it if the web page says https instead of http. I won't go into details, but one of the things it does is verify that the site you're talking to is actually the site it says it is, not someone e.g. on your WiFi intercepting the traffic. It does this using what are called "certificate authorities" who are companies that say "Yup, that's the site!" when you connect to that site. But that costs money, and nobody is using the site yet, so I didn't bother. Instead, I just have my own site saying "Yup, this is the site!" which is really insecure in the sense that someone pretending to be the site could say the same thing, which is why FireFox (and every other browser) doesn't trust it. However, it's no less secure than just using HTTP.

For those who want to verify it:
serial number: 00:A6:00:DF:5D:04:CD:00:F7
SHA-256 fingerprint: 2A:F1:D6:9C:76:3E:DD:81:57:9B:7E:AB:15:AC:46:61:50:2C:5D:73:BA:A1:36:F0:3E:DC:B8:57:70:F1:F1:02

I mean URL, not web page

Well! Forgive my ignorance, comrade! And not only that, thank you for a full, detailed explanation!

Bump, I'm curious about what you guys can share.

Since it's been kind of slow so far, I added a script that, once an hour, adds every story in the @news RSS feed (minus links that are already submitted). Additional suggestions welcome.
