So, to recap, what is the difference between anarcho-syndicalism & anarcho-communism; then, why is the difference so crucial?

The means of production of anarcho-syndicalism and anarcho-communism is the same. Apart from that it is completely different.
Anarcho-syndicalists use decentralized currencies. The one used in the spanish revolution was Hijar. Communists simply follow gift economics on a needs basis.
In anarcho-syndicalism work is rewarded as we are all slaves of nature and the more one contributes valuable things to society, the more money he would get. At oppposed to anarcho-communism where a hard worker would get the same amount of resources as let's say a weed junkie who doesn't work or contribute to society.
This was the economic difference. It's important because on large scales like towns or cities communism gets fucked up. The towns in the spanish war used currencies because it's impractical otherwise. anarcho-communism works very well with peasant societies though. The anarcho-communists in spain who were peasants eventually waged war against the anarcho-syndicalists of the towns in spain.
The other important difference is property. Anarcho-syndiclists, like ancoms support the idea that the means of production must be in the hands of the workers. However, the labour output is on the basis of merit. The harder workers will naturally get more as they worked for it.
Another key difference is that you actually get to keep your house since anarcho-syndicalists believe that your home is your personal property. Unlike ancoms.
tl;dr you get rewarded for your work and you get to keep your home. Communism is the antithesis of capitalist. It is the exploitation of the hard working by the lazy and stupid(mostly).
