Anarcho-syndicalist here.

What's some good reads for ancapism? I'd like it to be kept simple and beginner friendly.

Thanks

Perhaps the most "user-friendly" introduction I've seen to AnCap ideas is a webcomic called "Escape from Terra". It's a decent story about AnCap settlements in the outer solar system in the future having to deal with Earth's government and resolve their own conflicts. Not very technical or too terribly preachy. I just read it a few days ago, and I recommend it.

I have to second this one, very good comic very good summary of ancapiness. keep in mind that ancap isn't a specific prescription for a way of running a specific society, just the belief that you can't design a society through central planning. The Escape From terra sort of ancapiness is a pretty common prediction, but that's all it is - a prediction.

You could read Peter Schiff's book: How an Economy Grows and Why it Crashes. It is a nice little cartoon thingy that might help you understand the economic thought of us pesky ancaps! Why *don't* we like communism? why *don't* we support sharing? if those questions go through your head, read Schiff's book.

I'm all for personal and to some extent even private property. What i'm against is intellectual property. Nothing can be closed source(software), just like a contract of slavery cannot exist, and even if I did sign a contract to be a slave, I could choose not to be a slave later any moment I like(I do know there are some ancaps who do support slavery contracts).

Do this, and an ancap society would be cool.
Also, I read somewhere that there was a failed ancap society in saipan, what's that all about?

And yeah, I don't like communism, it's disgusting.

Many AnCaps, probably even most, are opposed to intellectual property. Part of the justification for property rights relies on goods being rivalrous. Since ideas are not rivalrous, they cannot be property.

Intellectual property laws essentially consist of commanding others by threat of force to avoid certain actions, which does not jive with our philosophy. (Though some still cling to the idea, but I have yet to hear a non-consequentialist argument for it.)

You're in good company. Welcome, friend.

Thanks, you guys are more sensible and welcoming than anvoms :)

Any active projects I can help with?

Ancaps are relatively radical, which means we have a lot of fun playing with how we can create market solutions to problems, but don't actually do anything in the real world.

>an ancap society would be cool

You know what's really cool about anarcho-capitalism(aka voluntaryism)? It's backwards compatible with all other forms of anarchy. Want to start an Anarcho-syndicalist/communist/mutualist/whatever society, you can. You just can't force me into it and I can leave if I so choose.

It doesn't matter if they're for or against intellectual property, you cannot suppress information once it is widely known. Without a state to enforce it, it simply cannot exist.

Private property is a physical good. By definition a good has scarcity. If it's not scarce, it's not a good. Something that's infinitely replicable is not scarce.

e.g. two people can't use the same spoon to mix cake batter at once, but can both use the same recipe.

"Intellectual property" doesn't even exist, it has no market value. Even under state enforcement, It's value always falls to zero(e.g. piracy, open source, ect.) albeit delayed by patents.

If you're interested, I made a thread over at >>>/anarcho/5297 to try and bridge the gaps between ancoms and ancaps so both could come to a better understanding of each others ideologies instead of the constant shitslinging which leads nowhere.

Feel free to jump in, friend.

Board owner here, I like to post as anon. Projects? Well you could make a banner or post to the book of the week thread. Besides that I'll promote ideas put forth by the community. We're really small so the board members hold the board in their hands.

I know I'm responding to a month-old post.

As the main issue between ancaps and an-synd's seems to be economics, i would highly recommend the book "economics in one lesson" which quickly and cleanly dispels some basic but widely held misconceptions about economics (monopolies, violence, etc.) Thomas Sowell's "basic economics" is longer (350 pages vs 100 for econ in one lesson), but is more up to date with real world examples (rent control in new york for example). I recommend both, and can probably recommend Bob Murphy's "lessons for a young economist" based on his other work alone.

Lots of good stuff in ancapistan if you are willing to look, quite liberating to realize that violence is unnecessary and that capitalism (cronyism aside) is nothing like what marx, etc. suggest.
