>Giving the FCC authority over the internet will keep the internet free!

That's right, the internet has had almost no state regulation beyond copywrite, anti-CP, and anti-fraud for a couple decades now, and the genius general public thinks NOW we need the FCC to keep it running smoothly. I think the best way to keep this from happening is to keep reminding people that the FCC currently regulates TV broadcasters.

See this in-depth look at the issue from Molynuex: The Truth about Net Neutrality. It's a long one.

If you have any more digestible arguments against this terrible idea, post them here.

I guess I'll post this goofy podcast too. From 2:50 to 25:10, they look at how the internet has flourished in this pseudo free market environment, in terms of speed, access, and business innovation, and how regulation has hurt telecom innovation in the past. A little Republican for my tastes, but its entertaining enough.

giving authority of anything to anyone is by definition less free.

I second the recommendation to watch the Molyneux vid, as well as these two by Tom Woods:

Related, I don't understand the fear that censorship or undue throttling will occur in a free-market (i.e. little to no government regulation) ISP environment, due to the loss of customers and social media pressure/shaming. In any case, a free market would result in so much competition that a switch to a non-censoring ISP would be pretty cheap and easy in any case. Even Google has to jump through hoops to get "permission" to provide Fiber at this time, no hoops would mean tons of competition

>beyond copywrite, anti-CP, and anti-fraud
That's already way too much.

I agree with this.

The FCC taking charge of the internet is going to systemically slow down its growth. Any comparative graph between the development of computer vs television technologies can demonstrate the objectively oppressive influence of unnecessary federal regulations.

This so fucking much. Why is it so difficult for so many people to grasp this? You can't liberate the internet by giving an unaccountable, unelected federal organization control. That's the complete opposite of liberation- that people echo the media just demonstrates populist acceptance of civilian stockholm syndrome.

Something can't become more free when you continually try to restrain its development.
