Maybe you'll find this important.

>information

Obama just signed a law allowing him to fast track TPP and other "trade agreements", allowing him to accept it with just a simple majority.

>what is TPP?

Only a small part of TPP is actually about trade, and it will affect every aspect of your life from healthcare to food to chan culture and, of course, videogames.

>TPP threatens fair use

https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2012/08/new-leaked-tpp-puts-fair-use-risk

From chan culture to youtubers, this could make bethesda's paid mods something you'd call "good old times".

>TPP will allow a corporation to sue a state over potential losses caused by its legislation

This won't happen in a court of your own country, this will place an international court above your laws. Consumer rights, from food to your favourite hobby, will be raped mercilessly. Think it's bad now? You haven't seen anything.

>TPP will make it easier to outsource labor in asia

From governmental contracts to code monkeys trough services, you will be competing with third-world slave labor and buying its products. Should you be able to afford it and have some free time as your working hours get closer to those of Vietnam

>AHAHAH I will still be pirating stuff anyway

No you won't. TPP can force your ISP to monitor your activity, and fine you or even send you to jail. It will be possibile to fine you even just for copying a DVD you own to your hard drive. It's SOPA and all that shit right back from the dead.

>I don't believe you OP, I want to read what it says!

Well too fucking bad, because it isn't just secret, it will remain secret for four years after it's accepted. Talk about transparency. However a small part has been leaked, you can read more here:

>I'm in EU, who gives a shit!

TTIP is the same shit EU-flavoured and it's going to hurt you. It will be negotiated by that most democratic institution called the european commission, so you know you're fucked.

What you can do

Next post I'll be posting the names of the senators that voted for this. Beside bothering them, you can get #TPP trending and start making some noise. Don't go down without a fight.

>b-but muh free trade

No.

It isn't about free trade, the whole "Free trade" shit is a farce to push anti-freedom agenda on us. Don't get fooled by it, this is NOT Free market.

TO DO LIST

Spread Awareness

Social Media

Tag-jack popular tags about anything the TPP throws a wrench in. Also, make #StopTPP popular. I think (verify) that Twitter makes a tag more popular if one tweet has lots of RTs and Faves than if many different accounts talk about it.

Youtube

Contact popular Youtubers explaining that their careers are dead if TPP passes (don't forget to include sources that explain it's SOPA on steroids). The same applies to political youtubers or those that like to inform about… pretty much anything.

IRL

Town hall meetings, PTAs, Get-togethers relating to matters that the TPP would screw over. You don't have to get on the stage and make a formal thing of it, just chat to some of the people there. You have better social skills than you think, just be honest and talk. Bring up TPP in conversation. Try to do it naturally, or people will be turned of that you tried to "deceive" them. And protests, by god protest this shit right out the offices of the people who support it. More on that in a bit.

Boycott

You have the lists of the companies/senators that are for this, make it obvious to them that you will not buy/vote for them because of TPP. Discourage others from buying those products (even if you can't win them over on TPP, do your Free Market duty and inform them of better brands)

Contact Senators

Research

Find out if your senator was in favor of it or not.

If not, they can understand the magnitude of it and know that the people are in favor of destroying TPP, meaning they can speak out more without fear.

If so, you politely tell them why they are wrong. This is difficult, because if you wind up in a back/forth with them, you need to be good at debate and reasoning. Still, if they use anything illogical you can share it publicly and humiliate them. In addition, they are driven by self preservation. If they think supporting TPP will kill their career (or any other career they have afterwards), then they WILL break. They will turn back to TPP. Of course, this is assuming corps have only given them campaign bribes. If money has gone into their personal account, or threats have been made, this is less likely. It can't hurt, and as the pressure mounts something might come to the surface (they make a mistake we can exploit, or do something SO stupid it puts the TPP in poor light)

Next, what is your senators main platform/something they are passionate about? You can then tailor your meeting with them focusing (at first) on how TPP screws that. Once they are hooked on that, you can explain all the other things it screws over, finishing with how corps can overrule whatever they want.

Call

RECORD THIS. The first thing you ask is if you can record this call. If not, hang up. (I am a britfag, so I am ignorant if there is a rule against it). Use the script that's been posted around. Not sure who to call? Use the senate switch board. Make sure to have your computer open with all your sources on screen to refer to them. If you wind up leaving a message on their machine or with an assistant, ask for the Senator to call you back.

Fax

Use websites to send one for free. Faxes are noisy and take up a hell of time and space. They are a pain. So getting 300+ a day will MAKE people listen to the concerns it brings up. Include sources of your evidence, but you can afford to be a bit more general (on wikileaks as oppose to wwww.longurl.com/myass). Ask for the senator to contact you back via phone.

Letters

A hand written letter is a funny thing. It takes up so little space, but the act of dealing with 100 of them make them heavy. Think of that scene from the Simpsons where the Itchy and Scratchy studio gets all those complaint letters. They can't just slam delete on them. They have to read through each one. "The screwballs have spoken."

Research how to do a polite letter, sign it (and even hand write it if you have neat hand writing), and send it. You've now just done something that is rare in this world. You've taken the time to do it. Meaning you come across as more professional, and more pissed. Include sources of your evidence, but you can afford to be a bit more general (on wikileaks as oppose to wwww.longurl.com/myass). Ask for the senator to write back to you. "I eagerly await your response" I think is whats best, but search around.

Emails

Despite what I said earlier, emails are still read by Senators. I think (verify) there is some kind of logging they have to do to prove they aren't ignoring it (even if they are fudging the books, there will be evidence of it, and you're helping expose it by putting them under more pressure).

Again make it polite (use a professional looking email. namesurname@mail.com, instead of B1gB00tyB1tches69@mail.com), and provide links to your sources. Ask for the senator to write back to you.

Meetings

RECORD THIS. The first thing you ask (preferably when booking) is if you can record the meeting. If not, cancel. (I am a britfag, so I am ignorant if there is a rule against it). This one requires good social skills and debate, especially since these people are professional bullshitters. Use your research to determine how you should talk to them. At the beginning and end of the meeting, give them a firm handshake (less so if you are a girl). A good handshake gives people a good indicator of the kind of person you are. Search it if you have to. This might be less needed, but give some contact info after the meeting and ask the Senator to contact you again with how they progress with dealing with/researching the TPP. They might not, but some might to A. Genuinely be a good senator B. buy your silence with politeness. B has a chance of backfiring on them.

Protests

Record the protest and upload it to youtube. Mainly for publicity, but also in case shit goes down, you might have evidence. Even if you can't do any of the above, you can do one thing. Stand, chant, and get mad.

Organize this with other people. Even if it's only 10 of you, keep going at the same time every day. You'll attracted more people to your cause, or at least get them to ask you what TPP is. Best case, they'll join the protest.

I'm not sure how "protesting law" works. Sometimes you have to tell the police you are making a peaceful protest. You can do so (at the moment) without notifying them. Key points:

- ANYONE acting like an asshole gets kicked out. End of. You don't need a "ketchup" bringing your protest down, or someone punching a cop.

- Do not block roadways, pathways or drives. Not for the Senators benefit, but for other people living in the area. You want to WIN people to your side. That, and the cops then have NO REASON to move you.

- Stay loud, but in extreme circumstances you might need to be quiet (funeral procession, near a school, near a retirement home, etc). Again, these are extremes. Most Senators offices are not in residential areas.

- Find out your states laws on protests and noise complaints. Lets say there is a ban on loud noise after 11pm in areas where people are sleeping. Stop the protest at 10/10:30.

I'd say keep the protests going for 1 hour at first, but if you have experience/a large enough group, go for 12 hours or a permanent camp.

This is all up for debate, so feel free to discuss it. Remember: You are your own person. This is just advice, do what you think is best. Things tend to work out after you've looked into multiple options and researched it though.
