How do you understand the social contract?

 No.680

With statists, that is one of the biggest topics that I come across. It's almost to the point where their entire frame is based on the social contract. It's can come off as a religion.

 No.682

>>680

I've felt that way too. A lot of it is cognitive dissonance. They talk about freedom but they usually stop short of pointing out the contract's limits.

 No.685

Yes I do OP. It's the magic implicit contract that allows me to win every argument with "nuh uh, you agreed by being born!".

 No.690

>>685

You dont agree by being born, you agree by accepting the laws of the state

 No.705

>>690

And how are you able to assume that I personally accept the laws of the state? It wouldn't happen to be the geographical location of my birth, would it?

Somebody hasn't read their Spooner.

Lysander was the fucking man.

Every night, I light candles to his name. He was a badass advocate for understanding the repressive nature of institutionalized regulation, of how regressive laws were set up for the benefit of monopolies. It's a damn shame that he lost the battle with his post office; it would've changed so many things. Of course, 'twas a path he couldn't have hoped to win without deep financial backing, only proving how monopolized centrality is recursively stagnating.

Do you accept the protection of the police? Do you commit crimes daily?

 No.762

>Do you accept the protection of the police?

What is your criteria exactly for "accept the protection of the police"? What does "not accepting" it entail? I'm certain we have different definitions here.

I don't willingly accept their services. I work around the fact they exist, like bad weather.

>Do you commit crimes daily?

Totally irrelevant. If someone declared it illegal to eat cockroaches, does that mean you accept their legal system because you don't break that law?
