alright. lets have a thread to talk about how we got introduced/started on animation.
ill tell my experience.
so as any kid i grow up watching Saturday morning cartoons (loony toons, batman etc.) with a healthy dose of Disney movies and anime (DBZ)
eventually i started making stick figures jump at the corner of my math notebook. and later on i even bought some post-it's and drew sword fight.
but the moment when it really kicked in was thanks to pick related. see we didnt had a computer in my house so i really had no idea about how traditional animation nor digital animation were made. si this was pretty much mmy introduction to the whole thing, and i must say it was great, even with the systems limitations you could still create quality stuff. without even noticing i started using key-frames and squash and stretch. i would come home from school and work on my shitty animations for days. that's when i knew animation was more than just a hobby and decided it would become my future.
so what are your eureka moments? what was the spark that made you follow this path?

Flipnote Hatena was the best thing ever.
I started with sticky note pads, even made a series with a connecting storyline. When I got a Nintendo DS I made animations in Pictochat. I know I can't be the only one who did that. Naturally when I found out about the DSi I just had to get it for the Flipnotes.
Lately I've been working with Flash. Most of what I actually do is just video editing outside of Flash, but I've got a .fla or two on my to-do list.

It was a hatchling that formed into an elder dragon and it took me ages to do perfectly, now it's all dust in the wind.

Fuck i wish flipnote 3ds woulda come out
I used to hate drawing until i was in 11th grade history. I had a horrible history teacher and began to doodle. A lot. As i doodled i began trying to get better. Then i got better.
Then i got flipnote ds. Holy shit i made a lotta porn with that.
Now im not entirely shit at animation, though ive been focusing on life the last few months

I have loved animation for as long as I can remember but I really wanted to become an animator after Nickelodeon did a kind of behind the scenes of their studios. I was like 5-6 and just thought it would be the coolest.
I kind of gave up on it from middle school till now. A few years ago I watched an interview of people that worked on Animaniacs and decided to just go for my dream.
I am working in 3D a lot at my university but I really want to get better at drawing and do something a little more 2D.

First animation I made as a kid in XP's windows movie maker. I drew stick figures in mspaint and flipped the drawings by alt-tabbing. Had no clue flash and the like existed.
Got really interested in animation when I discovered the newgrounds portal, which lead me to flash where I dicked around from time to time. While I liked making shit move on my computer monitor, I never did much drawing, which seems like a waste in retrospect.
It's cool that kids these days have shit like flipnote and can practice drawn animation at school.

when i found about newgrounds it sounded like the best thing ever, but since i only had a scanner and no tablet i eventually learned about traditional animation + a bit of final cut pro to edit and arrange my animations.
most of my animations were pretty short, but i remember that when i got my first tablet i tried to make a 6+ minute long animation with voices and shit, but i deleted it because i thought it was too much effort into something i suddenly stopped liking
>i worked almost a year on it
>i suddenly delete it
i recently decided to come back to it and actually learn some basics about it

They haven't said, but they're never going to, no idea why
They released it in Japan, and talk about it regularly to Japanese customers, but is not spoken of outside of japan
It is taboo in Nintendo's books, apparently

>>261well there was oz, some black chick doing some anime nonsense, and one guy who took full advantage of the camera and always combined 2d with his pictures. but for me the best one was the guy who made a cartoon about some big nosed guy who traveled a long distance to get a hamburger or something but then realized he left his wallet at home.

I always enjoyed watching cartoons as a kid, then I discovered John K's blog in high school and started watching old cartoons like Pinocchio, Looney Tunes, Mickey Mouse, Tom & Jerry, etc. I haven't really done that much animation myself yet aside from some doodles last year. Pinocchio is definitely my favorite animated feature.

My story is pretty much engrained that I had to be an animator, I grew up being the only child who could draw, And my uncle you may have heard of John Kricfalusi, saw that I had a love for drawing and talent for it. So he would bring me out to California ( from Canada ) and let me stay for a week, and introduce me to the animators in the studio. and took me to other studios, introduced me to voice actors, and I would get so overly excited. But when I went to college, animation had primarily become 3D, and i graduated as " a prodigy " because of my uncles work.. yet i didn't enjoy 3D because i love working with my hands, and since then iv'e been bouncing back and forth between 3 projects but feel I will never get anything completed.

How I got into was it was when I was in the 3rd Grade and I was reading a shit ton of Captain Underpants books by Dav Pilkey. Which got me into drawing. And I created my own super hero comic books, like up to 6 issues about a guy and his dog saving the world. As I grew older I browsed newgrounds in the animation section and was blown away. Then I started getting into sprite animation and what motivated me what the Super Mario Bros Z flash Films. And I haven't stopped thinking about animating ever since. Its just a fun activity to do.

You don't know J Kricfalusi? he's a pioneer in north American animation… I'm wrapping things up at Sheridan and all three years his name keeps popping up.
