Alright /ani/, what are your favorite animated films? Starting with one of mine, The Secret of Kells.

Le roi et l'oiseau (the kind and the mockingbird) is the first that comes to mind.

Probably come across as a bit odd, bear with me.

Starblazers was an amazing experience when I first came across it, way back when, and at just the right age. My interest in all things japanimaion has long since given way to other pursuits and hobbies though.

Recently, in an effort to expand my horizons of various flavors of image board culture, I was made aware of the 2199 remake. Of the snippets and reviews and … well. I was astonished.

This very day I've acquired all 26 episodes. There's also a related movie I believe, but I'll save that for another time. Today, I shall pick up a few six packs and something to mix with the rum, and marathon it all in one go.

But, I ramble. To address your question directly, both Princess Mononoke and NausicaƤ of the Valley of the Wind were wonderful, and wonderfully weird. Rock and Rule also holds a place close to my heart.

Finally, this board appears directed more toward the artists and the art, and the active study and practice thereof. I suppose a bit of fan discussion won't hurt though.

My thoughts as well. I thought seeing the favorites of a board so heavily focused on the art itself could be very educational.

Since you brought up anime, I'll say I've always loved the works of Satoshi Kon, particularly Millennium Actress and Paprika. His visual flair and pacing of the story make it all a pleasure to watch.

One of my favorites that rarely gets talked about is Leafie: A Hen Into The Wild.

He's a revolutionary and innovative animator. I wish he made more stuff.

I liked the Thief and the Cobbler but segments of the animation is really hard to watch.
