Hey guys, just started my animation class this semester, and I asked my professor some questions about software. I currently have adobe flash cs6, and learned that the course is going to be taught with toonboom. Do you guys have a preference when it comes to software? My professor says flash is mostly good for games and apps, and that disney and other studios now use toonboom for professionalism. Any good tips for transitioning from one to another? Are there better ones you guys know of? Also, do any of you guys know how about finding voice actors? Any help would be appreciated, there aren't many boards i've found like this one

If you are doing frame by frame animation, it doesn't really matter what you use. The only thing I have heard about Toonboom that is really good is backgrounds and cameras are easier to work with.

Also Disney doesn't touch 2D anymore so whatever.

Those are questions I ask myself.

Still, it's definitely confirmed that some professionals work with Flash on a daily basis so long as you can master that vector brush and make it look good, or use tweens in an organic manner.

However it would still do you good to learn Toon Boom. It's up to you whether or not to abandon Flash or combine it with Toon Boom, but each suite has its own peculiarities and strengths and weaknesses. If you bring out good results it shouldn't matter what program you use, but knowing how to use multiple programs makes you a more flexible artist for a job. Sort of like how a translator can be more flexible by knowing more languages and thus can get more clients.

Just dive into it. Work things out.

Also, it is freaking sweet you get to learn the trade. I'm learning on my own time.

Don't know about voice actors, I would suggest Newgrounds as entry-tier, but if you want honest professional VAs you best get portfolio hunting.
