If you're wondering why he uses smears constantly, he mentions that he applies photography principles to his cuts. It's been used before by Mitsuo Iso for his End of Evangelion cut (the scene where asuka fights the mp evas).
Of course, art != photography, but I dig seeing unique new animation styles. I like the smooth character animation of Hiroyuki Okiura but I also love the "abstract" character animation of Shinya Ohira.
