No.4105
Unfortunately we didn't get any cannibalism or icy deaths this episode. Maybe next time :^)
What a great episode. Megu's bitchiness has been foreshadowed sufficiently enough throughout the previous episodes so it didn't come out of the blue. However, as expected of maturing young adults in a serious setting without any romcom-style trappings, she was self-aware enough to realize that she was being a massive piece of shit and with a bit of MC (and co.) good will, was able to move past it. I dreaded the thought that it'd stretch on agonizingly and postpone the departure to Antarctica, but luckily that wasn't the case. This show needed this. Well written drama to flesh out and mature the characters elevate CGDCT to another level entirely, and this show doesn't disappoint. It's been consistently great in pacing, characters, and themes throughout. I just thank God she didn't get to go to Antarctica with them. Too many SoL shows do that shit where they introduce the last girl at the last minute, and it just drags it all down.
We're finally off to see the Penguins. I expect they'll have an episode or two of travel, and then we'll be in the South Pole just long enough to have a nice mini-arc and wrap it all up.

I didn't really like the episode that much, the friend being a bitch felt too melodramatic to me, I dunno. I'd rather just have the main four playing off each other trying to over come problems together, whereas this was all a Kimari problem that ultimately I don't see having a pay off or relevance.

They got a refund on the tickets.
Now this was forced drama. Both characters were being ridiculously stubborn for silly reasons, the impetus for it was contrived, and the resolution was unsatisfying.
No.7378
>>7355
It was mostly for character development purposes, but yea it felt forced and not that interesting. I would rather the drama come from challenges to overcome in Antarctica (like the training camp) rather than mundane shit. The last two episodes have been kind of meh because they've been concentrating on the character drama rather than antarctica.
No.7384
>>7378
Last weeks drama episode was legit, but this one was nothing but forced. Whoops I dropped my passport. Oh what a coincidence the embassy is closed. Muh personality demands I stay behind. Uh-oh we can't reschedule our shitty tickets. Teehee passport was in my purse this whole time. Forced as HELL.
A bit of drama every once in a while is good and fleshes out characters while giving a bit of a mental break from serious goal-oriented go-to-Antarctica shenanigans. Not twice in a row. That's just shifting the focus, especially when you have to jerryrig it in with contrived bullshit like this.

Aren't we heading for tears here? Shirase's mom would have had to stay alive, lost in the Arctic, for quite some years. Or been rescued by some nerd expedition. Both of those options are contrived, unappealing, and stretch suspension of belief a bit far. At best, wouldn't she find her corpse/grave?
Also RIP cute Shirase.

Now that they're actually at Antarctica, I wish they had spent more time on the prepwork and journey. I liked seeing them doing the camp training and the limitations and unique aspects of life on a boat. I was really hoping they'd showcase more of the rigors of life in the Pole, too, but they've got a cozy home with heated floors, individual rooms, and other creature comforts. Apparently more drama and character development, something you can get in literally any other anime, had more priority than showcasing something special.
What do the girls even do on the expedition? They've done some physical labor, like moving boxes around, delivering snacks, and other minor stuff, but what else? Do they just sit around and chat all day while filming every so often?

Why introduce something completely irrelevant, last minute, and then resolve it entirely within the same episode. Shirase was pretty manly at the end there, though. She's pretty much worst girl but she at least manages to be pretty cool.
