Yes I would say it probably is a bit of the christian influence and the modern Hellenistic trying to look better. She is both spiritual love and carnal love, and there is very little difference seen between the two in the time of her worship.

I became interested in her just recently and have been holding off on making an altar for now since it would be a bit hard to set up and I feel too awkward to recite prayers and hymns to a goddess.

The interest came along as part of a natural progression of my interest in femininity and sexuality. I had been sexually repressed and hyper-masculine for a long while but a long series of coincidences wore that down with Her influence being another part of the journey.

I am interested in the coming together of sexual polarity both between two people and within myself as the concept of the Divine Hermaphrodite. So I am drawn to Aphrodite and drawn to the beauty and exploration of sexuality and femininity that she has domain over.

It was a series signs that brought me towards Aphrodite as well.

I saw swallows in the morning. They landed in front of me and just lingered there and then took off and began mating right in front of me, then that day I found a strand of seashells and saw a pigeon get hit by a car.

Most of the times I have partaken in oysters I found small pearls.
