It's a bit odd, since I'm posting on 8chan of all places about the detriments of OOC, but it is what it is. Feel free to hate/discuss, but at least read it all.

So, apparently, this board caused people a lot of grief(some real nice people if anyone read the recent leaks), and now that the storm is slowly settling, I think about the following:Is it worth deleting this board, and avoid browsing its spin-offs and other possible clones? In retrospect, this board had its good moments, but the bad moments heavily outweighed the former.
This is coming from someone who actually browses chans daily, but if anything, it's time to stop posting here, or any other spin off.

Why does Greyhammer exist? One moment there was that Greyhammer halforc character that from my point of view just had some verbal support from people but mostly just squatted at the vineyard. Was there a lot of stellar RP happening about that place ? Since a semi settlement was put up? Or was it something else?

My experience with Arelith.
I'm posting it here because I get the feeling people will be more straight forward.
So I'm basically a noob to Arelith. I started playing ~2 years ago for a few months, quit for a year, came back for another few months, quit again, and am thinking about trying it out again. There's a hard cut-off where character to level 15-16 and quit.
The reason I quit is a mix of too busy and too bored. Don't get me wrong I really like RP'ing, but RP always peaks for me at level 1-5 and goes downhill. I get the feeling this is because it's easier to find people in the Bramble and they're more likely to work together rather than solo it.
When I move into the surface server between the swamp and Arelith Forest it starts to transition into the area where everyone wants to solo everything and has their own story going on already, so my RP experience starts to die down. The characters I met at early levels usually stop being around.
I always roll with a pure-ish stealth character, because it's the role I really like to RP with. I love being a sort of shady quiet guy who gives subtle hints of being really dark, but at the same time I can't solo grind farm, so I just silently lurk around until I can get a group to go with me or see if I can find anyone who wants to RP which takes for fucking ever sometimes.
If I ever find someone out grinding it's usually a fighter/mage who can just fly through the area on there own, and they don't want to group. In this case I just stalk them and leech XP. I use to throw a few emotes out in shout but then they come up with some bs reason to make me either show myself or be hostile, so I stopped throwing out the emotes.
Both times I've RP'd this role though I end up getting into some group that actually has things going on, so it really picks up when those players are online, but then it feels like my RP relies way too heavily on those players, and I can't do anything when they're not online. They also outlevel me a bunch so I can't go out and grind with them.
Then there's just so much downtime with nothing going on that I usually quit at this point. Everyone else seems to already be in their little clique already or I have no real reason to talk to them at all and it'd break character to just go out of my way to randomly talk to someone I see in town. I always feel like I'm just totally fucked over for choosing pure stealth, because almost everyone I see who has points in rogue usually just does it for UMD and extra damage because they play like a fighter anyways.
I've been thinking about trying Arelith again, but I feel like this will just happen all over again.

What are your suggestions/ideas for the server that you'd love to see but wouldn't post on the forums? Maybe they're too harebrained, day-dreamy and irrelevant for Mithreas to bother with, antagonize parts of the server or you're just plain lazy.
Sencliff and You
So I was going to post this on the salt thread, but it's not really the place and near the post limit anyway.
My problem with Sencliff: yes, a terrorist organization can do all this evil shit and push against the rest of the island, but all that ever gives their targets is reactionary RP. Sencliff and its members can't be targeted with the same sort of action in response due to moral issues for the good guys, the impervious nature of the guildhouse (vs. more vulnerable settlements), the mechanical power of its individual members, and more to the point, the fact that aggression against one member is matched by a collective response from the collective, which is tight-knit both ICly and OOCly.
Because we can't really fight back against Sencliff with the same ease they can fuck with us, a lot of us are pretty discouraged by the idea of hitting back because from where we sit, we can't see any openings to do any lasting damage at all. And some of us, in turn, give into that frustration by minimizing and marginalizing your RP.
So yeah. You guys are really, really good at being a terrorist organization. But I think you're really really bad at playing a terrorist organization that other people can play with in a dnd game.
Thoughts? How to fix? Anyone, friendly or Sencliff?

Collective Advice On How to Not Suck
Let's hear some tips and good advice on improving your character story, emotes, over all story telling, and role play quality in general.I'm no grand standing big league RPer, but here's my list of things I generally keep in mind;
-Less is more: Don't tell me everything about your character in session. Leave subtle hints in emotes, body language, and how you word things in dialogue.
-Have limitations and weaknesses; No one likes a character who knows Literally Everything (aka Azyrah). Have things your character is /really/ good at, and things they are just plain bad at. Don't be afraid to embarrass your character in a way that isn't to flirt. Don't be afraid to make mistakes, and not know things, even if you know them OOC. Flaws make your character feel human.
-Be Inclusive; Might be harder for 8cha characters, but I always try to reach out to people and offer work. I like to find new characters and offer them work, invite them into my faction, or just give them something interesting to do. Yes, even that nerd who runs everywhere and can't capitalize the first letters of their sentences.
-Take Everything in Stride; No one likes an OOG bitch. Keep IG IG and OOC OOC. You lost your quarter ig, someone stole your stuff, just got ganked in pvp? Keep your cool. Take a break if you have to; but just relax. It's a game and losing is part of any story.
-Be Chill OC; Don't lie to people OOC about your character's intentions. Don't be a fucking ass munch. Don't shove victories or plans in people's faces. Just don't.
-Be Willing to Lose; No one loses enough and is happy with it. Take risks, big ones, try to do something you're pretty sure you couldn't do OOC, but go through with it anyway. You want to take over the Temple of Bane and convert it into a new shiny temple of Lovitar? Go for it kid. Even if you dramatically die in battle and get be headed, just go for it.
-Don't be shitty; Sure, even if you win, don't be an ass hole to the folks that lose. IC you're not entitled to be nice to anyone, especially if you're enemies, but that's no reason to OOCly get your buddies up on skype to gang bang whatever poor fuck you happen to have a vendetta against.
-Be Real; I know this is a fantasy RPG, but goddamn keep the special snow flake mary sue down to a low. I feel that players that have snow-flakey characters have them because they don't know how else to make their characters seem interesting and alive without these 'odd' parts. Snow-flaking is a crutch. Try to focus more on the human aspect of your character. Reactions to things, thoughts, feelings, small gestures they might subconsciously do.
-Don't Hog Quarters; If you have to wake up once a week and think "oh, I should go log on and touch my quarter so I don't lose it" it's probably time you let it go so someone else whose actually playing can do something with it. Don't hold onto a quarter unless you're going to actually use it and live in it and do shit with it. This also goes for people who have cool houses but don't use/do anything in them ever.
-Keep shit talking to 8chan; Try to remember we all used to suck at some point in our careers. Instead of being a salty sailor try to offer advice, be patient, and make yourself an example as to what you think is stellar role play. Keep the hate on 8chan.

I've been loving the salt thread and venting on all the shitfucks around here. With our designated salt dump out in another thread, who were all your favorite characters over the years? Heroes? Villains? Real-feeling characters? Confidants?
I really miss the days of Nautilus and Palas, those dudes were fucking fantastic. I miss proper righteous anger/retribution and especially the hardcore Ranger-dom of Palas.
I'll probably get flak for this, but for what they were and in retrospect, the old 'Golden' Arcane Tower mages are a fantastic legacy. Off their fucking rockers over-the-top at the time, but I really dig the sort of 'legendary, ancient, unreachable' extremes they touched. I think having exaggerated stories of old, powerful wizards entering the realm of fable would be really fucking cool.
Same for villains, though I never interacted with some of the bigger ones of the time, just heard stories. In-game fables would be kick-ass.

Let's face the inconvenient truth: the server kinda sucks right now.
The forums are desolate, the sense of "community" is gone, there are hardly any partisan factions and those that do exist are quickly bandwagon'd until their original purpose is completely lost and they become so unwieldy they never actually manage to do anything (see: olivia-era guards, cossacks, triad templars). Inter-player conflict just isn't happening like it used to. The economy is dead. Activity in the smaller settlements is a luxury. Bendir, Guldorand, Brog… don't get me started on Myon.
I find myself time and time again harking back to ye olde days. And I don't want to.
What went wrong? The blame often falls on a "smaller playerbase", but I've been watching the portal lately and the numbers don't seem terribly different to what they were. In fact, the UD is far more prosperous than it ever has been during claimed "golden eras", easily catching up to cordor/surface. 70+ on a weekday isn't unusual, and that's more than enough to have things going. FL in its prime had what, 20-25 people, and it felt alive enough.
However as I browse the listed players, the names are utterly alien to me. Who the fuck are all of these people? What do they do? Sure, I don't play as frequently as I used to, but I couldn't tell you who half of these people are. I don't see them around, and I don't see their names beside "your order is finished" messages on the Cordor board. There are so many of these characters I just … don't care about, and my standards are incredibly low.
What on earth happened? More importantly, how can we turn things around? Can we even do that?

I feel as if the calming phase has begun, but let's all take a moment and a deep breath.What has transpired for any newcomers to the board:
A leaker has (claimed) password-guessed LittleWeasel, took over her account, and posted screenshots of everything in the PMs he could find and had access to all of the PMs, logs, posts, ect on the forums and server vault.
I egged him on, as did others. I did not expect him to go into such depth, only hoping for the DM forum screenshots for that juicy gossip. All the PMs just completely came out of nowhere.
The leaker isn't some "oo-spooky" hacker.
Now, I just want to remind everyone that this will only be a big deal if the community makes it a big deal. It's the fun thing to laugh at anyone talking about a sense of community as anon, but that is how it's going to work.
This should be seen as a moment for cathartic reflection for everyone playing the god damned game and to stop being so uptight about everything. While the leaker's leaks were morally unsound, they have definitely pushed everyone playing Arelith to a point that definitely needed to be reached in order to have some sort of self-reflection on everyone.
Now don't get me wrong, they probably didn't do it for that reason. But that is what we can do with what has happened and is probably the best possible outcome.
So just keep up daily life and masturbate a lot and eventually the servers will come back up and we can forget this ever happened if that's what we all want to do.

ITT: Suggestions you wish you could post on the forums, but know for certain you'd get banned or yelled at.I'll start:
-Make all suggestions by The Man on the Moon instantly go to the "rejected" subforum. The reason? It would save the devs time and allow them to focus on actual suggestions instead of having to translate what he's saying to English.
-Implement a script where when a character is wearing no pants, they get a disease ("crotchrot") that drops CHA, INT, WIS, and DEX (can't move so well if your junk is falling out) that eventually (1 tick) kills them.
-Ban players who whine, bitch, and complain that spells need to be nerfed because they suck at PvP.

I can't play Arelith anymore, because going through the same low level dungeons and same-ish RP kills me, "Let's kill kobolds/goblins/bandits!". No, seriously. I decided to try your Arelith server that you lot are all complaining about to see if it was so bad. (It sort of is.) It's been more than a week, and I've been RPing with people. No RPR in sight. Arelith DMs got a stick up their ass, or do they not care to check for that shit?

Wonderful Chaotic Evil Characters
Who (in your experiences) are some of the most well-played Chaotic Evil characters that the server has ever known? Characters whose players clearly managed to play their alignment, but did so in a way that made the game fun for everyone, while crafting a memorable and unique character. @HakanubisI'm not familiar with the Spectres and I only know you guys UD side. I enjoy Kha'zix and Katarina, but you guys need to do more to reign in some of the people you play with–i'Blanca (who is associated with your house) is known to outright PvP people with no RP, and I'm not sure why she hasn't been punished for this yet; Xar'Zakn, though he tries to roleplay, is very trigger happy; Khai, though he technically abides by the rules of engagement, seems to often be looking for excuses to PvP people, often of a lower level, for ridiculous reasons, and it's kind of un-fun when he's around. I haven't had much interaction with Lissandra, but she seems cool. What's worrisome is the sort of cliquey OOC nature of your clan and its heavy focus on PvP. Have you guys thought of ever playing your own characters, separately?

Why are concepts like this so common? Every time some "cutesy" half-naked elf licks blood off of their fingers while giggling, I want to throw my laptop out the fucking window. There are some people who really stick to the concept of FR, but they are greatly outnumbered by the faghats who think this is a place for a concept ripped off from some fucking anime character. Warlocks are the worst "lel me so evil and giggly. My balor is soooooo cute."It seems that evil is taken the form of "cute" as opposed to "sinister." I cannot take any evil faction seriously anymore. So, one of the main issues with the official forums is that you can't really outright tell people, "You are playing your class wrong:" without getting a lot of flak and/or whined at by Mithwife. SO. Here we are.
What are some of the common issues with how paladins are currently played on the server?
(I do not include Reo to this, she is not a paladin by any means other than power building.)
What kind of paladin do you like to see?
