I: Introduction
To start off with, this guide is made with those who seek criticism in mind, to help understand the exact rationale behind why every single one of my fucking posts talks about getting the fuck off Skype. It's a bit odd, since I'm posting on 8chan of all places about the detriments of OOC, but it is what it is. Feel free to hate/discuss, but at least read it all.

So, apparently, this board caused people a lot of grief(some real nice people if anyone read the recent leaks), and now that the storm is slowly settling, I think about the following:

Is it worth deleting this board, and avoid browsing its spin-offs and other possible clones? In retrospect, this board had its good moments, but the bad moments heavily outweighed the former.

This is coming from someone who actually browses chans daily, but if anything, it's time to stop posting here, or any other spin off.

This. If you stop reading or posting here, even to admonish shitposting, problem solved: everyone stops caring. I doubt the malingering posters left here will resume Apophis-quality content or even rational conversation without trying to out-edge and deprecate each other. Better it's forgotten and uninteresting

As it is, under my control I can at least delete leaks and player info despite not wanting to fucking moderate in the first place. I hardly expect going full Teutonic in moderating this board could improve it again.

So, if my understanding is correct being an "Outcast" is essentially saying your character is so despised by every civilized society on the surface that the only people who will take them are the creatures of the Underdark.

So why is it that being an Outcast means next to nothing on Arelith? All it does is change where you can vote. It doesn't put any weight or consequence for the actions that led to the character being so vilified, and the Outcasts themselves rarely seem to play as the sorts who are uncomfortable with the idea of being recognized in a settlement that wouldn't like their kind around.

What is the real point of being an Outcast at all?

 No.6881

>>6880

>What is the real point of being an Outcast at all?

Better XP early and far more profitable early-game. Pretty much. Especially if you join as a group of people.

Case and point, a group of banites made outcasts, so they could power level quickly. When there were banites in power on the surface. Which they ended up joining forces with later, down the line. Making outcasts in this case was entirely just for the ease of leveling and much better income.

 No.6882

>>6881

That doesn't really seem to promote a different form of roleplay from surfacers, if it's only seen as a way to quickly level then head to the surface. If the mechanic is simply a, "start here for better levelling" device currently, what would you guys change about it to make Outcast a bit more weighty of a decision?

 No.6883

>>6882

Make all the surfacer merchants and NPCs, except for a save few, react to the Outcast.

>I know who you are, you ain't purchasing anything here, wretch!

Make NPCs despise them, visibly, audibly, make them know who they are. Make them throw fruit at the player, then players know that they are outcasts.

They are supposed to be so hated that the only way to escape is to shit around in the UD, so widely known that they are literally only living in the UD because its the only place where they don't know who they are.

Or the like. Make it have mechanical limitations, so they are encouraged to RP their outcastness.

Where do people grind nowadays for sheer monetary profit?

Since FoD got nerfed a bunch of time ago, I've been looking for some new place to grind. I used to grind Avernus, but since DMs are sitting like hawks, looking for people to grind there just to fuck them over, that's no longer that viable of an option.

Why Kholingen though? There's not really much there that drops coin. Just an abundance of bosses, and you'd get that from FoD as well.

Mobs there just happen to drop a LOT of coin. If you take the time to collect daggers/short swords as well, they each sell for roughly 200+ coin. Between them, jewelry, boss heads, and just regular coin drops (that even the lizards drop) it quickly becomes very lucrative.

 No.6758

With a couple of exceptions, his builds really aren't that bad.

Some quick and genuine feedback:

FIGHTER 20/WM 7/ASSASSIN 3

Strictly inferior to the bard variant. You're losing a lot of spellcraft and a lot of skill points here. If you really want to do this for the RP, that's okay though, I guess.

Improved disarm is a poor choice for anything but large weapons. Grab some save feats or skill focuses (e.g. skill focus: discipline can be good) instead.

MONK 21/ASSASSIN 3/FIGHTER 6

I feel this one needs either epic dodge (to be a genuine dex tank) or more sneak attack to be viable. It's kind of sitting in the middle of the road, and not really impressing me because of it.

MONK 9/ROGUE 15/FIGHTER 6

You're looking way too squishy here. Trade some of that strength for con. Also grab some spellcraft. Your saves are dreadful.

Also consider trading some of those monks levels for more rogue (or even fighter). Six is plenty for cornersneaking.

CLERIC 21/FIGHTER 6/BARD 3

Don't build enough clerics to comment in depth, but note know there are a few flaws with this one. Extremely dispellable. No esf evo (though maybe not possible to get on a battle cleric without sacrificing too much). You're taking great strength I and not taking epic prowess, which suggests you could probably optimize your starting stats better.

FIGHTER 20/PALADIN 5/ROGUE 5

You don't need the dex. Cat's Grace is virtually undispellable by level 30. You could, however, use more con or even more strength.

FIGHTER 20/WEAPON MASTER 7/BARD 3

Too many save feats, IMO. Grab some great Post too long. Click here to view the full text.

 No.6759

Sorry, I'm an idiot. Forget what I said about SF: Discipline for the palemaster build. You can easily squeeze GSF: Abjur in there instead, which will be far more useful to you.

 No.6760

>>6758

True for most of it. All minor changes/skill changes that could be made.

The Fighter 20/WM 7/Assassin 3 build is designed to be a decent Assassin under the new mechanics. Could easily switch out Improved Disarm for save feats, yes. I don't think I would really ever bother getting Skill Focus: Discipline since it's only 3 extra Discipline for an entire feat. Saves would be far more useful.

The Monk 21/Fighter 6/Assassin 3 build I can somewhat agree with, but this is essentially the same build Duriel had (though I believe he was Rogue instead of Assassin) and he did well enough. Gets high AC, decent-ish damage, but relies heavily on the quick movement and Spell Resistance.

The Monk 9/Rogue 15/Fighter 6 comments I almost fully disagree with, except for Spellcraft. Yes, you could easily trade out the skills and cross-class Spellcraft. As for more Rogue instead of Monk, it comes to a personal preference of 10% extra movement speed or 1d6 Sneak Attack damage. I prefer movement speed, hence 9 levels. I'm ignoring the bonus Rogue feat because you would have to use it on Improved Evasion to get Epic Dodge, anyway.

The Cleric 21/Fighter 6/Bard 3 is a bit more survivable in the dispel department than I think it's being given credit for. It's only 2 CL short of a traditional 23/4/3 build, but also allows for the full 4 APR and Epic Weapon Spec. ESF Evo wouldn't do too much good, IMO, because the DCs still wouldn't be high due to focusing STR/CON. If you can come up with a better starting stat split that allows for Epic Prowess please do let me know, but that's the best I could do.

I can see your point with the Fighter 20/Paladin 5/Rogue 5 build. In many ways I agree with you, but I've also played builds where I constantly had to fuck with DEX wands/potions for that extra +2 AC and it wasn't pleasant. Trading a couple of points of CON for the 4-ish points of DEX seemed worth it to me, and also gave that extra little bit of a Reflex boost.

Fighter 20/WM 7/Bard 3sPost too long. Click here to view the full text.

 No.6761

I don't want to turn this into a debate, but do want to raise a few points for additional consideration here.

SF: Discipline is really underrated as a feat. +3 skill points is effectively +15% chance to resist any KD attempt. It isn't strictly necessary for strength builds, but I highly recommend it for anyone else. (And even for str builds, it's a solid feat.)

For the monk/rogue/fighter build, I'd probably grab 1 rogue level and 2 fighter levels, netting you two extra feats. I guess YMMV whether +1 AB/+1 AC or +10% movement speed is more valuable. I tend to lean the former, but we can agree to disagree.

I find that the Fighter 20/WM 7/Bard 3 build has very solid saves with gear and spellcraft bonuses. An epic feat or two can help shore up your weaknesses, but you don't need to go overboard. That said, with the upcoming fighter changes, these feats may be more valuable. We'll see.

70-95 AC on palemasters and dragonshapers

600-1100 HP on warlocks, feylocks, barbarians, dragonshapers

+40 vs spells on all saves, if not, you suck

1 disable trap, 14 set trap, only good trap is acib blob, stack them.

0 bluff 90 perform, be the donut

110 hide, 90 ms, be the puddle

70+ discipline, less and you are on the floor

14-21 umd, possibly more for artifacts

50+ spot will guarantee you see most stealthers because they suck.

Max crit of 340 on a scythe weapon master

Max crit of 170 on a katana dual wielding weapon master

I was thinking there might be others wondering why some things om Arelith are like they are. A thread where people can answer questions and clarification. Without further ado here is my question serving as an example om the same time:

Why does Greyhammer exist? One moment there was that Greyhammer halforc character that from my point of view just had some verbal support from people but mostly just squatted at the vineyard. Was there a lot of stellar RP happening about that place ? Since a semi settlement was put up? Or was it something else?

The Dominion's legacy lives in the administrations that followed: Aeylkin the shitdiglet paladin, Katanananana's randumb alt #37, Elzi and Niekander, Grindhouse the illiterate Tempurian, and more recently, Niekander Another One. Do I have to mention that until recently, Guldorand wasn't held by someone who could actually spell the town's name?

And of course, Burrowhome with Andriarna the Inactive, Cordor's resident pedobait jizzmop.

Is it though? It should be noted that the Dominion was defeated by outside forces (in addition to internal failcascading). The good guys then replaced them with that list of shitty leaders.

Is it really the bad guys' fault if their successors are absolute shitters, when they had absolutely no hand in their elections? That doesn't make a whit of logical sense. Blame the people who voted the shitters in.

Incidentally, the Dominion came about as a fairly natural occurence when the leaders of Guld, Wharf and Bendir kind of all got into power around the same time and got together ICly, it wasn't some plot years in the making.

I want something like that to come back again, not gonna lie. Imperialism is something that I want to see more of.

I'm posting it here because I get the feeling people will be more straight forward.

So I'm basically a noob to Arelith. I started playing ~2 years ago for a few months, quit for a year, came back for another few months, quit again, and am thinking about trying it out again. There's a hard cut-off where character to level 15-16 and quit.

The reason I quit is a mix of too busy and too bored. Don't get me wrong I really like RP'ing, but RP always peaks for me at level 1-5 and goes downhill. I get the feeling this is because it's easier to find people in the Bramble and they're more likely to work together rather than solo it.

When I move into the surface server between the swamp and Arelith Forest it starts to transition into the area where everyone wants to solo everything and has their own story going on already, so my RP experience starts to die down. The characters I met at early levels usually stop being around.

I always roll with a pure-ish stealth character, because it's the role I really like to RP with. I love being a sort of shady quiet guy who gives subtle hints of being really dark, but at the same time I can't solo grind farm, so I just silently lurk around until I can get a group to go with me or see if I can find anyone who wants to RP which takes for fucking ever sometimes.

If I ever find someone out grinding it's usually a fighter/mage who can just fly through the area on there own, and they don't want to group. In this case I just stalk them and leech XP. I use to throw a few emotes out in shout but then they come up with some bs reason to make me either show myself or be hostile, so I stopped throwing out the emotes.

Both times I've RP'd this role though I end up getting into some group that actually has things going on, so it really picks up when those players are online, but then it feels like my RP relies way too heavily on those players, and I can't do anything when they're not online. They also outlevel me a bunch so I can't go out and grind with them.

Then there's just so much downtime witPost too long. Click here to view the full text.

Playing with the people you like and making the server suck for everyone else are two completely different things, I'm afraid.

There are too many people who seem to think they're simply 'playing with you people you like' when they're actively fucking stuff up for everyone else. Is t here such a thing as 'good' metagaming? Yes. Is the Arelith community a good example of this? On the whole, that's a resounding 'no.'

This isn't ideal. When a niche server with a high bar of entry has a higher playercount than the most Vanilla server still running, there's a problem.
