Can you guys judge my webpage? Its a wip. Im going to change the font and add something to the right, and maybe add a logo(my photoshop skills suck). I want to make something to show future employers and add to my portfolio. Thats why I want to know what you artsy people think of it.
Is it good? Bad? Do the colors go together? What should I change/add?
Keep in mind that I want to put everything the user needs in the navigator so the experience is different from other websites, I want the navigator to also feel seemless so there is a fade in the body when the user goes to another page within the site but the navigator and banner dont move except for the default highlight. Let me know if you think this is a good idea too.
Anyways thanks in advance and I apologize if this doesnt belong here.
Thanks
Oh yeah and the reason why the twitter part is highlighted is that my mouse was hovering over it and I made it that it highlights if a mouse is over it. And the Home is highlighted because this is the home page. Keep that in mind please

It's not too great to be honest.
Rounded corners are something you should use very sparsely, they look like a nice detail when you first put them in, but it's very easy to be blind to reality when you do it. They might work for a rubber duck theme, but it doesn't look particularly good here at all. The topmost box also looks awkward because the rounded corners are tucking under the top of the page.
There's too many colors. The yellows are blinding bright. The background is bright, but the text background is dark, which is pretty silly and makes the blinding background worse as you try to read the text. The colors are very inconsistent and random and don't work together too well, it's like you want to add a new variation of the same colors for every element on the page.
Putting the navigation on the bottom is a bad idea unless you're doing something very special. It also has a thick red outline all around, which sort of makes it look like an advertisement. Twitter/facebook buttons also should not be part of it like that, if you really insist on putting them on the navigation bar, use simple icons instead.
The padding on the main text box is bad, the text is way too close to the edges. It's also all in one long paragraph, which is not good for the landing page. The end is bolded which is a good start, but even that is connected to the paragraph above it. The image doesn't do any good for it either, it looks completely out of place.
The space between the top and the main text feels awkward, the title text is too small to support that. Your eyes go straight into the "Do you need custom ducks" text instead of the top. The title text also doesn't look interesting, using word caps (Typing Like This) isn't good for long titles, and it would look better if you reduced letter spacing.
Serif fonts usually don't work in web unless you're using a white background or doing something very hipster-y.
Overall there isn't a whole lot going on in the site. No backgrounds or images or any special "thing", it's just text thrown somewhere to a blank background.
>the experience is different from other websites
A harmful mentality. That's only acceptable if you're doing a very special website. For most purposes you should try to stick to traditions that everyone can immediately understand.

I would suggest you design a website on an image manipulation program like photoshop first, and then try to figure out how to actually build it. That's how you do it in a real situation, you make a design, you show it to a client, you discuss and make changes until it looks good, and you build it only after the client has approved the design.

>>2553thank you for the critique, I adressed alot of things and this is what it looks like now (still not final). Is this any better?
Also is there any thing I did really well here? Id like to know since I save all of my code and add notes on things so I would like to know.
Anyways about the font, im changing that at the end, and I still havent added much to the sides, Im still thinking about what to do over there.

>>2551I'm not a web designer.
But I do know that color scheme hurts my eyes a bit, because of the intensity.
The colors of the text you used are also a bit odd.
The top box being a slightly different shade than the middle box triggers my autism.
The rounded corners somehow don't look right.
I'd start over again if it was my website, to be completely honest.

>>2555You just posted that as I was posting my comment, how funny.
Anyway. One idea for you.
What I do for my design work.
Make many different
finished mock ups, wait on it. Then take the one you like the best. Or maybe take the 2 or 3 you like the best to other people and see how they like them.
It really looks to me like you took a style, picked a color scheme, and decided "that's it." Design work really shouldn't be like that. Go wild for a while, play with every possible element of design and color you can and once you've done a massive amount of shit, use what you're taught yourself. It'll turn out incredibly better, almost certainly.

>>2558Hmm I spent nearly 3 hours changing around the colors of the elements on this page until what it is now, I had to do all of trial and error.

>>2559Meh, taste can be pretty subjective so maybe I'm just tripping out.
I'll leave this article as I go, it's a good read.
