So how do you guys feel about pixel art?

 No.2695

I hope Noirlac updates soon. I'm afraid to try pixel art because I have no grasp of the fundamentals and don't want to just cheat.

 No.2697

Great when it's not done by a lazy hack (same as most things really). I don't mind artists who simply aren't good but their effort makes it charming.

Unfortunately it's ludicrously expensive to hire good pixel artists for video games, so you rarely see it done well anymore.

>ludicrously expensive

Oy vey, is this a market opportunity? I could make some cash maybe? Mobile developers, I bet?

 No.2700

Can't say I really get the point. All the best pixel art would look just as great as non-pixel art and the rest seems like bad artists looking for a niche rather than improving.

Go for it anon. Dl pixen or use photoshop and start practicing.

I personally feel it's like any other medium out there. Just a different approach and presentation.

A lot of bad artists do seem to latch onto it for some odd reason, maybe thinking it's easy as piss compared with different methods or retro hipster cred.

 No.2794

In my opinion Pixel Art has the highest artistic value of all digital techniques. I still remember every single Pixel Art image I saw but I almost can't remember any professional CG work.

was looking up some metal slug stuff, found this, thought of this thread

It's his own fault for doing art for fucking mobile games.

How can you expect those mouthbreathers to appreciate anything you create, pixel art or not?

Trying to figure it out.

Normally I am a shitty barely getting off my ass cartoonist exploiting the mlp community with clop. Either way, I'm not the best artist in the first place.

But here are some sprites I have on hand for a game I'm a part of. Critiques and tips are welcome.

I love pixel art. it is an interesting style of art that teaches patience and thinking outside the box.

That stuff is amazing, but I still don't understand the obsession/nostalgia towards pixel art. Reading about people toiling over subpixel animation (Which that picture ironically uses very little of) seems ridiculous when you could just draw at a higher resolution. Today's pixel artists seem to be people with weird priorities.

So yeah, screw this low res nonsense. Imagine if someone were to digitally emulate that great Russian paint-on-glass animator, Aleksandr Petrov, with tools like TVPaint.

 No.3311

seems more animation geared than pixel, but still

Takes too much time and dedication and doesn't even have much aesthetic values.

Only appeals to le nostalgic le retro gaymer manchildren.

Literally the highest form of autism.
