I can never find the time to actually use my shitty tablet and draw when I'm using my PC, so I was thinking about downloading Pokemon Art Academy for the 3DS to get some practice once in a while.

Is it good to just get you to draw stuff and maybe teach you a few things?

>still can't bolt down and draw

Even if you download that you wont do shit.

Sit down and practice.

OP, get normal Art Academy. I don't think Pokemon teaches as well. I tried my niece's game and it was just tracing pokemon faces. I don't know if it actually gets in depth later and the beginning easiness is just to not intimidate kids. I doubt it, but even if it does it'll probably be annoying to unlock the tuts on your level. You'll have to research on its max skill level I guess.

I played around with the normal Art Academy and it starts out with teaching you how to use grids, sketching techniques, etc. Then advancing you to shading and how to blend colors. I never got very far, so that's only a the beginning of it.

Forgot to get back to you on this but I found a let's play and looked through the vids.

The "final exam" is making the pikachu here. Charizard is one of the last lessons before the exam.

I feel like it leaves you off about midway into normal Art Academy's introduction course. Yeah the pokemon art looks flashier but you know about the same amount. I mean, compare to this screenshot where even the starter lessons involve blending colors and such.

I wanted to try the actual art academy, but I don't have my normal DS with me and homebrewed 3DSs can't run DS files.

So I'm kinda stuck with this one or nothing for now

Maybe I'll buy the actual game, dunno

Thanks anon

There's a 3DS actual art academy. You can pirate Pokemon then move onto the actual one if you're starting at low skill. If not then just jump right into it.

Just sharing some drawings from Pokemon Art Academy, while I try to find a cia for Art Academy

These three are basically just tracings, while they try to teach you all the tools

This is the end of the novice course, for the last two they just give you basic shapes and let you draw pretty much everything else

I have to admit that even if this is pointless, it is pretty fucking fun

Since you guys are talking about 3DS art programs, anyone have experience with Comic Workshop 2 (of even 1)? I carry my 3DS about everywhere, but haven't been able to take an artpad as often (not to mention I can't draw in the dark with an artpad). I mainly just want it for doing page layouts while I'm out, and then using those layouts to do finished comic pages on my computer. Is it pretty good at least for that?

Never tried it, but it's 10$, you might as well give it a shot.

Pretty cute. Having fun is just as important as learning.

The nintendolife review mentions it can export images. Not sure what resolution though.

Are these 'games' actually that useful?

I believe the lessons might be useful to introduce people into the principles of art, but you'll get far more skill and information by learning seriously from good books, videos and artists (using more comfortable and cheap materials).

No ammount of resources can trump determination + pen and paper.
