I'm glad that you posted here. Anyone can learn art, though as with anything some may have an easier time with it than others. It's certainly not something you need to be "born with", though. Don't fall into the trap of worrying about talent.
I am a little concerned by your claim that you can't draw basic shapes. Are you unable to draw things like triangles, squares, and circles at all? Do you just mean that they aren't perfect? Examples would be nice, if you would like to share them.
In any case, the book I recommend for an absolute beginner is You Can Draw in 30 Days by Mark Kistler. It won't turn you into a master artist by any means, but it gave me the starting point I needed when other beginner books felt too complicated.
The most important thing, whether you try learning from a resource or not, is to practice. Get into the habit of drawing every day, even if it's just for a few moments some days. Have fun, believe in yourself, and don't give up! Like most skills, learning art takes a long time, so don't be discouraged if progress seems slow. You'll get the hang of it eventually as long as you keep trying.
You can do it!
