Okay, so it was pointed out to me yesterday that the first one was basically a dude with thick thighs and big pecs.

The Anon wasn't rude, far from it, it's just when it was pointed out I was like "shit. He's right." and then spent somewhere around 2-3 hours on the second one doing a revision. And promptly realizing I have no idea what the fuck I'm doing with females.

The Anon mentioned it in his observation as well, he could tell right away that I've spent most of my time drawing male anatomy and female is a new concept to me.

The point of posting this here is I'd like people to just tear into the second one, right one I guess as well even though I've since scrapped it, and let me see if I'm missing anything here.

From my view, what I see wrong with the second one is

>her left arm is too long

>left shoulder is too high up, maybe too large

>right arm is too long

>right forearm is too thick

>right forearm too vertical of an angle

>right elbow sticks out too much and doesn’t connect properly

>left breast too low

>either left breast is misshapen or the slope of the shoulders doesn’t match with it

>abdominal perspective doesn’t match

>abdominals in general aren’t very well done

>midsection too long with hips and pelvis appearing too low

>thighs don’t match up with hips

>neck too long

>head angle is off and doesn’t match face

>eyes maybe too big, despite them being deliberately oversized

Also for clarity's sake, the first one is scrap042_c(3), and the second one is scrap042_e

so this piece in particular has just been bugging the everloving shit out of me and I went back and revised it again and corrected the left breast.

I tried correcting the left hand/arm too, but it looked even weirder so I think I had enough detail in the arm to convey that it was indeed going to the side and behind her a bit.

I'm very dissatisfied with this overall, but I think I've spent enough time trying to use skills I don't have to correct it. If I wanted to fix it, I'm better off just redoing the entire thing from scratch on actual paper.

I'm leaving this at G, I've gone back and touched up this piece more than anything else I've done for some reason and every time I just notice something else wrong with it.

For now she's just done. Until I get someone else to look at this critically and or redline it I'm just going to stop for my own sanity. She at least looks definitely female now and that's good enough.

It looks like you recognize all the things I wanted to point out. There are a few more things you should probably pay attention to, though.

>fingers are too long/hands too big

>no folds on the shirt

>neck's too thick and it's angled strangely

>her left breast shouldn't be lined like that at that angle

>breasts are either too low or shoulders are too high

>her hips are angled even though her shoulders aren't

>her head is too small or her body is too big

Women tend to be smaller in everything except the hips, and they tend to consist of curves rather than the straight lines of men. Try smoother, curved strokes.

You should really build your drawing using shapes, too (cylinders, circles, cones, etc). Your drawing looks incredibly flat, and it's causing problems with your ability to arrange things in space and figuring out how to define the abs properly. The sleeves, for example, don't follow the shape of the arm. A shirt doesn't wrap around the breasts like that. Even the bikini looks flat as opposed to winding around her hips.

I'd suggest doing a few practice sketches of references before drawing from your imagination. It'll help loosen up your arm and help hasten your skill at drawing the female form better.

Thanks, you're the second person to give me the "build from shapes" advice and I'm really seeing what you're pointing out. Particularly with how it looks flat and I'm having trouble arranging things in 3D space.

Like, that's dead on, further evidenced by what's underneath and how I actually formed it. Compare what I did to your redline and it becomes obvious that I'm doing little more than stick figures in the general gesture.

I've currently actually been holding off on drawing from imagination recently for that reason as I go through drawabox.

I'm currently only finished with part 1 of lesson 2, but I was hoping I could get your opinion on whether or not that's a good idea.

Like, will I just not retain shit if I keep doing this bad old habits without really knowing what I'm doing.

Or if I should repeat the lessons I'm on.

It's me again, maybe I should be posting in a different/new thread come to think of it.

I've been keeping up with drawabox and trying to avoid my old habits, but I wanted to do some more of this again.

I think I'm already seeing a difference just from practicing shapes, composition, and technique from drawabox, and you can possibly tell just by the way I've constructed her out of shapes this time. Like if you look in the head you can maybe tell I used legitimate geometric shapes and ellipses to construct that instead of just guessing the + across it.

Of course I still don't really have a grasp on everything obviously, but I think I've got a keen enough eye to spot what I'm doing wrong and work to correct that in future attempts.

I mean I still can't seem to not chicken scratch once I get the general figures in and the proportions are still all jank with her praying mantis limbs, but I mean I think I'm going to get there eventually if I keep this up. At the very least I'm closer to the redline on the right than the one on the left than I was a week ago.

Last time I'm doing this, I swear.

But I got bored and decided to spend time actually copy pasting the heads for the ratio's I was reading in this. It obviously wasn't exactly human either so of course I was looking through references and the like to get a better feel. It felt a little jank still, so I spent a while just tweaking shit, chopping out individual parts and re positioning them.

The "ink" was just a quick 5 minute thing in GIMP just to see what it'd look like. I'm going to actually go over it in a different program later.

Overall though that satisfied my craving to just try again and get it out there.

i'm not a very good helper, but here is my best try.

What I first noticed is that the main issue here is her overall posture.

You said you noticed that there's a problem with her butt and I have to agree. It doesn't quite flow with the figure, and the extra wrinkle coming off of it makes it appear like it is actually a fake butt and there's a real one hiding in there.

And I see you attempted to put more flesh on the right side of her waist, but it adds to the effect.

I redrew it to the best of my ability so you can understand a little. Also I included a helpful tutorial by Babelab which I really recommend checking out if you want to learn how to make better pinup girls.

Overall keep observing life. Draw women from porn if you have to.

The "transparent" blobs are somewhat ok, but the "opaque" ones look flattish since you are not making the cross contours"round" enough, the illusion of curvature relies on how well you can wrap ellipses on the form, the rounder the better.

 No.4491

>>4490

Thanks. I actually got feedback from the DrawABox guy and I'm currently practicing my ghosting, ellipses, and Boxes (that last one is my discretion).

I'm trying to find the right speed to do things at actually, a major problem and cause for my sloppy shapes is going too fast, but I've also got a bad habit of obsessing over small shit I can't correct until it looks right, as opposed to just scrapping it and starting over. At the same time I know I rush through things too much without really taking everything in.

I'm going to redo lesson two in it's entirety when I'm done with the Boxes and get approval. Some of the feedback I got was verbatum "but the ellipses aren't done right at all"

Shit's hard when you've got like ~18 years of bad habits you're trying to correct.
