Okay /art/, I've been traditional art for a while now and I want to jump to digital. It's been some time since I did draw digitally. Problem is I have no idea how or where to start.

>inb4 just do it

I tried but I just can't seem to get the hang of it. How do I make that jump to digital?

You use the fuck out of it until you can actually draw shit on the useless fucking digital piece of cunt

You figure out where the tools are and its really not that different from traditional drawing. Try programs like Sketchbook Pro which are more illustration-oriented than photo-editing oriented.

I just made the switch after finaly geting a tablet earlyer this week and i'm having trouble with it. I'm doing charcter desgins so I figured I would use manga studios 3d models to make myself templates that I can trace over and then re-use. Problem is that I find I keep drifting as I go over the lines. Is this normal? like is it something you just have to learn not to do? Is something wrong with my tablet? me? am I just being retarded?

Reminder to force proportions on the tablet mapping options.

If you don't and your screen doesn't have the exact same proportions you'll get lopsided input that is stretched and not 1:1.

How do I do that? My screen and tablet are defenately different sizes

Depends on the kind of drivers you use.

I use Wacom which comes with it's own settings menu.

I tried for the longest time to switch. I tried to get into it with Intous but the disconnect from my hand and the screen made it so I never felt really like i got a handle on it. I broke down and invested in a Cintq (with the fear of buying it and never using it) And the ability to draw like normal is amazing!

How much did the cintiq cost you? I swear they cost like an arm and a leg ;_;

First buy a tablet. I won't give recommendations because mine's pretty old and it's the only one I've used so I don't know how it compares to others, but you should be able to find plenty of reviews or guides. Go for one that's relatively inexpensive (but not poor quality, just not fancy) and an average size. Once you have that it should be pretty straightforward to get it working. Then you need a program to actually draw in, I think SAI is great for beginners since it's pretty simple to figure out but you can still do a lot with it. You can find a free download online. You can use whatever you want but I don't recommend jumping right into something complicated like Photoshop. And then once you have a tablet and a software, you're all good to go. Just start drawing.

I think that's just a matter of getting used to your tablet, and CTRL+Z-ing until you get the line right. It happens to me too.

Yeah mine has the wacom software to.

>>4333

Ah right okay, Its like I can't draw a straight line XD

 No.4336

>>4335

Wacom Tablet Properties -> Pen -> Mapping Tab -> Force Proportions

It reduces the functional area though.

All it takes is a few weeks of your regular drawing/painting routine. Unless you don't draw, but then you wouldn't be thinking of getting a tablet I presume.
