Anything related to the programs you use to paint digitally. Which ones you prefer, what tricks you've learned, how your workspace is set up, your custom brushes, etc.

(also, to the admin, is it ok to post links to cracks and keygens here?)

I use photoshop and mostly like using fairly basic brushes. A cool thing I did lately was switch from HSB sliders to LAB sliders--this allows you to play with temperature more easily and get more interesting colour variations and harmonies in my opinion. And when you do dark colours you don't need to manually pump the saturation up a lot like with the HSB sliders. Other than that, I paint pretty normal. Oh, and I like using the Navigator window a lot to see hte big picture.

I will not do anything against those unless someone of higher authority tells me I should.

Manga Studio.
Best I ever used for line art.

Krita.
Second best for digital painting, Brushes are like no other, and the experience is really enjoyable.

I know GIMP gets kicked around alot but I'm running the beta version as a test and it recently got the brush engine from mypaint. It's pretty dope, I reckon people that aren't lazy cunts could do some really impressive stuff with it.

doesn't do this tho. :(

Verve painting is a really interesting GPU accelerated painting app. It's tiny(less than a megabyte), and free. Download it, open it, and just see what it can do.

Looks cool, but sadly it doesn't work on my Windows 7 ;_;

pic related (I tried to turn off antivirus and turn this program on as an admin, but without results)

Apparently I should have updated my system to Windows 8.1 and/or update my graphics drivers... Meh, it's easier to stick to my SketchBook Pro.

What makes Manga Studio better for lineart? I tried it but didn't see any reason to use it over Photoshop or SAI for lineart. I don't need stabilizers or anything like it.

i use krita because it isn't proprietary garbage and it's designed for painting specifically unlike gimp.

I really liked working with Photoshop but a bug popped up several months ago (CS6) where brush strokes after a few strokes would turn into a series of straight lines locked to vertical and horizontal only, so I couldn't draw shit in it.

Now, I tried Krita and it's wonderful, brush strokes work fine (and they also work fine in Sai and even in fucking Paint, it is definitely a problem with Photoshop, not with the tablet) and it has some really handy tools like easy tiling.

Problem is, Krita can't handle large files. I do stylistic cartography and files will often go up to a couple dozen thousand pixels length and width, with multiple layers. Photoshop can handle this, and it makes good use of a separate scratch drive as well. But Photoshop as mentioned before has THAT FUCKING BRUSH PROBLEM I've spent days googling that shit and looking at people's questions about it and seeing dumb fucking Photoshop fanboys insist it's a tablet problem. Whereas Krita will crash if I try to do a large file.

Does /art/ have any recommendations for any other drawing software?

I mean if all else fails I guess I can just draw map elements in Krita and then put them into Photoshop, but I'd rather stick to one program if I can.

Sounds like your shift key is fucked somehow, because that's a brush functionality in photoshop for when you hold shift.

If you're not on laptop, try temporarily disconnecting your keyboard and see if that fixes it.

There's manga studio, but it's not so good with large brushes, and presumably not with large canvas either. Unfortunately Photoshop seems to be the only program that handles large scale well, because it's designed for image manipulation rather than painting.

 No.2918

Oh and Corel Painter is pretty cool, you could give that a try. It doesn't have advanced image manipulation features though if I recall right, so it's not good as an all around program.

>Sounds like your shift key is fucked somehow, because that's a brush functionality in photoshop for when you hold shift.

That would seem strange, because the first three or four brush strokes are smooth, then the fourth or fifth is fairly jagged, and then it gets really bad. And then when I alt tab out and back in, it's smooth again.

Also, that's not brush strokes on canvas - if I do a stroke, undo, do again, undo, etc, the fourth or fifth one I do, even if it's the only one on canvas, will be jagged.

I had the a similar problem to you, except it was just the odd line that came out as if I had pressed the shift key. inb4 I was just pressing the shift key, I wasn't

Don't know what caused it but it seems to have stopped for me now.

Does anyone here use an older version of Photoshop?

I had "Creative Cloud" installed but it was a slow, buggy piece of shit with a weird interface. Wondering if any of the older versions are less bloated.

can i get an opinion about open canvas, other than my own?

I don't know what's supposedly wrong with CC, but I use CS5 and it's fine.

Maybe you got a bad torrent.
