I have no source for this, I'll try and find it - I just remember reading it somewhere and finding it amusing.
Interestingly, the Old Norse calling dark things blue is why we have the word "black" in English, cognate with the word "blue", when every other Germanic language (that I can think of) uses a word cognate with the German Schwarz. Very tangential but another Norse influence on English is that is uses a North Germanic word order when modal verbs are used, rather than the word order used in the other West Germanic languages - we say "I have gone to Blot" rather than "I have to Blot gone".
