Hello asatru. I'm no dedicated Odinist, but I am very interested in adopting a significant degree of the lifestyle and living in one of the countries of my ancestors (family left Sweden two generations ago, for a non European country). So I come to ask of any who know better, which of the Nordic countries are best suited and most accommodating of a traditionalist, nationalist, asatru lifestyle? I have narrowed it down to Norway and Iceland, for freedom of speech, absence from Marxism (I don't want my children being force fed that crap at their mandatory government schools) and security for the future (outside the EU/ least likely to be involved in future conflicts)

Iceland is the obvious choice as far as a small, wholesome community is concerned, away from the troubles of the mainland and they are just recently beginning the development of a temple to the old Gods but the trade off is more difficulty getting in, and a limited natural forest.

What would you do?

Apologies in advance if this is too off topic for asatru

Iceland seems like a nice place but I'd rather Norway. seems the better choice in the long term, but unless you can see the future it's a hard choice

Yeah as Trojan said, its really a guessing game at this point, whether one nation will wake up to the multicultural chaos and another will embrace its own death. I wouldn't bet on moving to either of those places unless where you currently live is a real shithole, but Iceland should be better than norway IMO.

I didn't know Iceland had a forest to begin with… Not sure if one could grow either if the state were to plant an artifical one.

I can tell you for a fact that scandiniavia will be involved in WW3 once it happens, that's pretty much guaranteed. The central norwegian rural wilderness seems pretty secure in terms of bugout potential and geographical stability, but right now there are no real nationalist mass movements to speak of in any of the northern european countries.

Thanks fellas. I am leaning towards Iceland at this point. But again, it will be a serious endeavour getting citizenship. It's not even a pure nationalist type society that I desire, just one which is neutral enough to nurture those whose values are not modernist/ liberal and presents the greatest stability for my children and their future.

I recall reading somewhere that Iceland once consisted of 40% forest cover but was largely lost upon Nordic settlement. There are some very, very limited natural forests remaining which extend no more than a few kilometres but generally, the country seems to resemble more farmland than anything natural. I guess one could always attempt to acquire enough land to plant his own trees, it would just be nice to be able to live amongst the fjords and forests of the mainland. Not at the expense of course, of cultural degradation and future political unrest.

what are your plans for obtaining that citizenship?

I've looked into Iceland and it is quite the task but my general intent is to live and work there for long enough that I may apply for it. I believe it was set around 15 years with extensive, documented language classes but don't quote me, I may be confusing that with one of my numerous other considerations. Being a citizen and owning property in another 1st world nation should secure me the monetary needs to invest oversees. Hopefully I will have intermarried by the time I am able to apply for citizenship anyway, as is my primary intent to raise children in a European homeland, so the process would then be rather less of an issue.

Of course this is all just idealistic at this stage. I would like to think it is within the realm of achievement but it will take time to seriously plan for and orchestrate an international move.

I am concerned however, that I am violating the very principles of homogeneity which I hold dear. Scandinavians are growing increasingly hostile to others wishing to move and adopt what little culture they have left. It may be that this is fundamentally directed towards the middle eastern hordes which threaten to overrun them but nonetheless, is something I am not yet totally certain of betraying. I may be ethnically very close to them, but I am not one of them. It is unfortunate that the Anglo Saxon Isles have been compromised or I would just move to Scotland. Ironically enough, the Scots are a mixture of Celtic and Norse similar to Icelanders and my family has been Anglicised itself in recent generations. It would be a very adequate match.

The only difference between half british and half icelandic kids would be a lot less blond eyebrows.

If you want to know anything about Iceland from an Icelander then you can ask me. I may not know everything when it comes to trying to emigrate here but most general questions I could answer.

Do you think its only a matter of time before iceland becomes a multicultural cesspit like England or sweden or do you think there is something special that means the place will never become like that or not become like that for a very long time?

I doubt it, the feminists already have everything they seem to want here so there's nothing like that here. There are some Thais, Philipinos, Poles and then some assorted more minor minorities but they mostly assimilate to Icelandic culture.

Iceland or Finland. Finland actually has a decent size of it's population practice paganism. Iceland also culturally is closest to the old ways as they were the last to be converted, though have maintained old traditions in many ways.

What about the Faroe Islands? Would that be a decent place to live. I heard their language is closest to ancient norse. Are they pagan?

The Faroe Islands are almost entirely Christian.

I have red hair, as does my mother and sister. My grandmother was blonde and so are both my uncles. I am very ethnically Nordic but with some Germanic/ Celtic elements so it's more the culture and language invasion that is an issue for me. I may have been one of them 5 generations back, but now I'm just another European foreigner and only my family will be able to truly assimilate.

Thank you for replying and my apologies for taking so long to post again.

My major concern with a migration to Iceland is as I said earlier, doing the very thing which I detest amongst others by entering your country and living in it as my own. So firstly, how do you and other Icelanders feel about the migration of Northerners/ Germanics who share little with you other than genes? (Scotland, Germany, The Netherlands etc.)

and how well are foreigners received?

If I commit to this, it is with the intention of intermarrying an Icelander and raising a large family. I likewise desire very much to assimilate with any place I end up, so keep that in mind. But I would rather not impose on a culture who is very vulnerable and as such unwelcoming of outsiders.

on the topic of Iceland, just saw this thread on /pol/

Iceland isn't looking like that good of a choice… didn't they kinda become very americanized post-WW2?
I have that idea of Iceland being very americanized due to WW2

Dude just buy some land out in Maine, Montana, or Alaska. Plenty of wilderness you are looking for and you do not have to deal with the bullshit SJW cuckold policies of Europe (not saying America is innocent of this but Europe is much worse). Build a cabin and hunt/fish/farm etc. As long as you pay property tax I doubt the government will give a fuck what you do as long as you are not distributing your manifesto online and sending mailbombs. Soon as I get the money I am moving to Cloudcroft, NM. Place is fucking gorgeous it is in the mountains has wild milk thistle growing and Pine trees everywhere and it's closet market is a trade post a half hour away. Also nearest Chain grocery stores are like an hour away.

Would not Canada be better in this respect?

Self-sufficiency and self reliance is important in Asatru, so living of the land is something that should very much be encouraged.

Canada can work too.
