Let's talk about one of the most basic and essential manly arts, fighting.

What weapons do you own? How do you learn and practice? What do you do to make sure you are able to fulfill your duties to defend your family and friends, yourself, and your property?

Just came in from practicing with pic related, it's not much but in my situation it's the best I can have. Also own several sturdy knives and a six-foot quarterstaff which is hands-down my most effective weapon if I have it on hand and room to use it.

As someone who fights with viking age weapons and flirted with fighting in the sca, I can say with utmost certainty that you are a faggot. Quarterstaffs are a fucking joke.

Get a real weapon like a fucking spear or bardiche if you want a pole weapon.

 No.4643

I carry a knife around for self defense, and lately I've been training with a practice arming sword.

I want to get a real sword or a gun soon. I'd have to look up my state's laws on concealed carry and whatnot though.

>someone who fights with viking age weapons
With who? Larpers? A tree? Thin air?

>quarterstaffs are a fucking joke

They're not a weapon you pick when you know you're going to fight dumbass. They're just something you usually have on hand–a walking staff if you're innawoods, or anything long and sturdy otherwise. And they really can do some fucking damage as long as your opponent isn't in armor, they're good for blocking and great at faking out and hitting with both ends.

I'm not in a situation right now where I can have any other real weapons. Given the choice I would want a rapier or spear… and for practical use a gun. But I don't have one (or the several hundred dollars to spare to get a good one). What I have is this dinky tomahawk, a few knives, and a long sturdy pole. Better to know how to use the weapons you have than to mope that you don't have better ones, if I had to protect myself with these I could do it well.

I know how that is man.

Do you know any good manuals or guides on how to properly use a knife to fight? I know there is no substitute for real-life drilling but I can't do that right now, I have no friends who are into that sort of thing

You know LARPers generally use foam weapons right? Not real weapons that been blunted?

Seriously you are so fucking willing ignorant to not know the difference to the point where you appear to be a huge fucking nigger.

LARP= Lightening bold lightening bold Lightening bold

Reenactment= Wearing historically accurate armor hitting people with real axes and setting up tents and living like a person would live thousand years ago. No magic involved

Go be a nigger somewhere else with your weeb quarterstaff faggotry.

bolt* sorry I am drunk and irritated

 No.4653

Stick and knife (although not real knives). It's good stuff and reasonably transferrable to use for swords and axes if need be

I do know the difference. I was making fun of you.

You say you "fight with viking age weapons". You still haven't told me how or with who.

>"larpers" is also a derogatory term for reenactors and hema and sca types who can't distinguish between practical combat and fucking roleplaying

>Also you claim to be a reenactor
>I cannot put two and two together to determine you fight against other reenactors
>You are a LARPer hurr

You are a full-fledged retard and your willing ignorance reminds me of that of a nigger.

If you want to be so ignorant there is a religion just for you

I bet you look soo cool walking around with a walking stick. You probably feel like gandalf don't ya?

And yet I am the nerd.

Also who the fuck is going to attack you in the woods? And if you say a bear or a mountain lion you are a fucking retard if you think you can fend off one of them with a stick.

Just carry a knife and stop being a dumbass.

 No.4679

>>4676
Hell no, Gandalf was an asshole.

You don't carry a staff just to fight in the woods, you carry it because it is actually useful to have a sturdy long stick for many situations–testing water, mud, and ice to see where to walk, vaulting streams, reaching stuff, holding up tarps and clothes and such in camp. Do you even innawoods? (though, actually, in my area, it's not a bad weapon as well as there are no animals that you couldn't fend off with a quarterstaff, just small bears and bobcats and such)

>>4675
>Hurr durr I dress up in costumes and hit other people in costumes in reenactments, that teaches you how to fight right?

 No.4680

>>4679
Actually it does teach you to fight because it gives you experience. I fucking fought with Saexes which easily translate to modern knife fighting.

>Hurr durr you fight all the time

>That doesn't mean you know how to fight

Are you literally so fucking idiotic? You learn from experience dumbfuck.

reenactment != fighting

 No.4697

>>4690
So are you saying it doesn't or does? Because I literally use a real axe and shield and fight against another person with real weapons (they are blunted but still real) and most of the time it is not staged (that is only during shows) when we practice we fight for real. I had mentioned this several times in different posts. The outcome is not pre-selected during our practices whoever wins wins because of skill. Also we had a battle thegn run drills to improve our footwork and taught us certain techniques like "Getting around someone's shield" "Using an axe to hook shields or weapons" "How to hold a spear properly', etc. Fuck I even know shield wall formations and tactics.

 No.4698

>>4697
Can you even google? It means "not equal to".

However, I was not aware that there were reenactments where the outcome was not staged and predetermined. My experinece with reenacting is probably what you call shows. The fact that you actually have footwork drills and technique lessons is good, I didn't know reenactors did that. My mistake.

My uncle was into civil war reenactment, but it was nothing like that, it really was just a show.

I have dozens of guns and print ragged holes at 50 meters. Why the fuck would you use a stick?

 No.4702

>Why the fuck would you use a stick?
Guns and knives are banned in many countries where self defense is illegal; not everyone lives in murrica.

 No.4703

I actually am a murrifag, but I live in college where I can't own a gun. And given the choice I would take a quarterstaff over a knife if I have enough open space to use it.

But no doubt the most volkish way to practice fighting is Historical European Martial Arts, or HEMA for short. The way our ancestors fought.

Vid is a good way to get started and provides several links to manuals, books, videos, and other ways to get started.

Unfortunately my local athletic center doesn't teach HEMA so I have to practice on my own.

>inb4 HURR LARPER

Fuck you it's fun exercise.

 No.4836

>>4835
I have always wanted to get into HEMA. Personally I'd have a lot of interest in learning to use a rapier and a spear. Unfortunately I live in bumfuck nowhere and there's nowhere nearby to join.
