I'm looking for someone knowledgeable about symbolism.

The meaning of symbols I can discover for myself, what I need to be educated about is the meanings inherent in the orientation of symbols.

For example, a symbol meaning one thing inverted becomes an antonym of that meaning.

One symbol placed above another expresses dominance.

If I have two side profiles of, lets say lions, and I place them side by side, claws facing away from eachother, what does this imply?

Transversely, if I was to place them side by side, claws facing towards eachother, what does this imply?

Google has been useless. Any help would be appreciated.

There are no universal generalizations about the orientation of symbols. It is not correct to say that placing one symbol stop another implies dominance of the latter by the former. For the most part, the examples you described would take most of their meaning from the specific coats of arms they resembled.

You will have an easier time finding information about specific heraldic charges if you learn blazonry.

There's a lot more to it than that. Symbolism isn't universal, different countries or cultures often had different and conflicting symbolism. Heraldry is a subject people spend their whole lives studying, it's very complicated.

I have a similar question, I'd like to know a little more about Asatru related tattoos.

What tattoos have specific or constant meaning in Asatru? Are there any that have to be earned somehow, any to stay away from?

I was thinking about getting one of Odin's Horns, I consider Odin the god I follow because I plan to spend my life wandering and exploring to gain knowledge, the way he did. Is that reasonable?

Ah a good thread I can post this in rather than making a new one.
