Socrates also came to this end. I don't know how ancient germanics viewed the subject but choosing sudoku over (eventual) execution to keep honour is not a foreign concept to European peoples. It's the ultimate act of self determination, to not let others choose the terms of your death.

And to clarify, this does NOT justify suicide because abloo bloo bloo life is so hard. It is a very situation sacrifice that should only be done if you must go to Valhalla but are unable to. For example if you were a soldier who lost all of his friends in battle but you were only maimed and disabled. You now have no chance of going to battle again and you will never see your friends again. Suicide at the end of your life by sacrifice would be appropriate, but only if you were really fanatical about Odin
