What is the asatru view on suicide? Not, I emphasize, NOT as a cowardly escape from life's problems but to restore honor or punish yourself for an unforgivable act.

I know some idiot is going to still, having read this, assume it's about escaping something. I'm talking about taking it upon yourself to punish yourself even if you desire to keep living and love life.

Seppuku is not a Viking practice.

Well that covers just about all the questions NO ONE ASKED.

me neither. sudoku is in no way shape or form acceptable. die in battle or go search for another religion which fits your masochistic cowardice

>asks if suicide to restore honor or punish oneself for an unforgivable act is Asatru

>seppuku- Ritual suicide by disembowelment with a sword, formerly practised in Japan by samurai as an honourable alternative to disgrace or execution.

>Also used as punishment for shaming oneself

OP, fuck off and learn to actually read.

Protip: we like to do our own research around here.

Leave and never come back.

>I'm talking about taking it upon yourself to punish yourself even if you desire to keep living and love life.

That sounds like fucking cucktianity-tier retarded self flagellation.

Suicide is not inherently good or bad it for the Greco-Romans and entirely depends the situation. Seneca's Stoic writings are fucking great and he followed it through himself when facing execution. Socrates also came to this end. I don't know how ancient germanics viewed the subject but choosing sudoku over (eventual) execution to keep honour is not a foreign concept to European peoples. It's the ultimate act of self determination, to not let others choose the terms of your death.

An heroing however is disgraceful

>NOT as a cowardly escape from life's problems

These are mutually exclusive. Think about how orlog and wyrd work. Killing yourself doesn't fix what's been broken…actually going out and fixing it does.

>I'm talking about taking it upon yourself to punish yourself

If you did something "bad", that's in your wyrd now. That's the "punishment" there. Actually going out and righting the wrong mends wyrd.

>assume it's about escaping something

It is, though. Killing yourself to "punish" yourself is escape from the process of actually correcting your errors and making the world a better place for you and yours.

The only time you should be allowed to an hero is as a sacrifice to Odin. Some of the kings in history would commit suicide when they became too old to fight so they could get into battle. they would often be burned on a pyre or stabbed by their servants with knives and spears and of course there was hanging

And to clarify, this does NOT justify suicide because abloo bloo bloo life is so hard. It is a very situation sacrifice that should only be done if you must go to Valhalla but are unable to. For example if you were a soldier who lost all of his friends in battle but you were only maimed and disabled. You now have no chance of going to battle again and you will never see your friends again. Suicide at the end of your life by sacrifice would be appropriate, but only if you were really fanatical about Odin

>Not, I emphasize, NOT as a cowardly escape from life's problems but to restore honor or punish yourself for an unforgivable act.

>Killing yourself when you're mentally ill and suffering is bad and cowardly!

>Killing yourself because you failed your boss is totally OK, it doesn't count as running away from your problems at all! I-it's not like I'm afraid to face my boss or anything!
