>We believe in an all-pervading divine essence which is beyond our immediate understanding

But was this the understanding of the ancient Asatruars?

>weakness, cowardice, adherence to dogma rather than to the realities of the world, and the like – constitute our vices and are to be avoided

Isn't it dogmatic to believe something because it speaks to your soul (i.e. sentimentally agrees with you)?

>We may be Gods-in-the-making, but we are members of the animal kingdom nonetheless!

If joining the rank of gods is the goal, isn't the human condition very corrupt and fallen indeed?

"We believe in an all-pervading divine essence which is beyond our immediate understanding"

You do, not me.

The gods aren't perfect nor are they immortal.

I'm pretty sure the ancient followers of Asatru didn't either. Not to be a dick, but it sounds like the admin(s) are projecting a Platonist idea onto what seems to be a pretty simple folk religion.

>simple folk religion

i disagree with this notion but unfortunately most of the deeper aspects of germanic religion have been lost with time. it can be gleamed at however through some of the myths and sources (the last parts of the havamal, describing Odin's self sacrifice, are especially transcendent and esoteric)

what is preserved is mostly a simple folk religion, but we must remember that the myths shared by peasants were much different than the myths shared by the priests and wisemen.

I believe in a cyclical spiritual harmony which is beyond the capacity of Middangeard – the observable universe – to fully grasp and measure. I further believe that this spiritual movement springs from within our Folk – that it is a manifestation of our collective consciousness and that it binds us to our kin and guides us on our path through Middangeard.

I believe that we see this divine essence in the forms of the gods and wights, in our folklore and history, and in the ancient runes and signs that our forebears gave to us as the ethel of our Folk. These gods, these stories, and these signs are markings left upon the physical surface of Middangeard by the spirituality of our Folk that extends beyond this corner of reality.

I believe in standards of behavior that are consistent with these spiritual truths, and that deepen our frith and kinship with our Folk here in Middangeard and in the worlds beyond it.

But I'm not here to argue with the FAQ. It's pretty close to the mark.

>Isn't it dogmatic to believe something because it speaks to your soul (i.e. sentimentally agrees with you)?

the important thing is to find what is true to YOU, not necessarily something you can beat people over the head with and "prove". For example, you might love your wife and that love is something you feel is true inside you….but to strangers it's just an anecdote, you can't really "prove" that love to them.

Similarly when we talk about the Eternal the important thing is that it resonates with you and is true to you.

2+2 = 4 is true and can be demonstrated to others but who really gives a shit about it? Who bases their life on it or would die for it? A truth isn't really capital 'T' Truth until it becomes YOUR truth and that requires a deep subjective connection to it.
