Can pagans read and enjoy Christian stories written by Christians, that have Christian themes and maybe references to Christ? Or should we avoid them? Would our ancestors approve?

I've been reading things like Macbeth, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, The Divine Comedy and thoroughly enjoying them and finding their wisdom useful.

I like the fantasy/medieval settings and language and themes…

Is this frowned upon ?

Of course not, like it or not but a good amount of our recorded history is Christian. Although I dont like Christianity I've learned to accept it and realized that most Christian symbolism and theology is based on paganism. Most of the early Christian theologians were educated in the old pagan philosophy schools and based their arguments on it. The green knight even has some Celtic themes (mystical beheadings and skull cults)

as long ad its European, its pagan whether it likes it or not. They added Christian themes and symbols to the nibulungenlied but it still doesn't hide the original pagan story left underneath.

Cool. I always felt they were a mix of paganism and Christianity anyway

The three witches in Mac Beth that tell him his destiny are actually the three norns, so that's pagan. The king Arthur story is also very pagan despite some versions having christian themes. We can't just ignore great stories from our recent history because the authors were part of the mainstream religion at the time.

Beowulf has quite a few Christian propaganda lines inserted into it. Would you throw away Beowulf because it's tainted?

Just use that brain you inherited from your ancestors.

Hell fucking no.

We don't have strict rules like that here. We respect the values of loyalty, bravery, and skill in battle, and those are reflected in lots of old Christian stories.

Just because we disagree with their religion doesn't mean we're forbidden to have anything to do with them or their works, Asatru doesn't work that way. I have a lot of respect for a lot of Christians who did brave and difficult things.

One of my own ancestors was the explorer Captain John Smith, he was a devout Christian but I have a lot of respect for him and aspire to be as brave and capable as he was.

funny one of my ancestors was Charlemagne, although I think alot of western Europeans can trace back to him so not sure how much it matters.

>one of my ancestors was Charlemagne,

Okay, that's over the line.

My ancestry traced back to a Norman who fought under William the Conqueror (in some records they claim my ancestor was William the Conqueror himself). All is I know is somehow my Norman ancestors wound up in Scotland with lands and Nobility titles. Earl something or so forth. They fought at the Battle of Hastings though that much is guaranteed.

what am I supposed to do about it though? You can't cut blood out of your system. I like to think that my religious beliefs are reinforced by desires to right the wrongs of my ancestor

>tfw I'm no better than white guilt faggots

Friend of mine is a descendant of Karl the Slaughterer as well, through a bastard line I think.

Why not? Sir Gawain is the Frankish/Saxon equivalent of Herakles. Wotan is a Christ. The power of the pagan mindset is being able to see beyond names, knowing that no religious current has a patent on ideas of numinous redemption. I like Graham Greene's the Power and the Glory a lot.

Are you able to enjoy reading Buddhist stories written by Buddhists that have Buddhist themes and maybe references to the Buddhas? I am.

The Song of Roland is some of the most badass shit.
