So one of the arguments I see here frequently is whether or not people who don't know their blood line or know that they are mutts are welcome in modern Germanic religions. Shit can get real heated in these arguments. To help alleviate some of this I have a proposal of a sorts.

The gods/godesses, like the men/women that worship them, are sexual beings. They like boning just as much as we do. The idea that in the 1000 years or so that not a single new god or demi-god or <insert one of the many god like beings that were worshiped> was born is kind of absurd. For some reason I doubt Odin wears a condom and that Frigg is on the pill.

That means chances are that there are a whole host of gods/goddess that might be looking for followers and a domain to lord over. Of which there are tons of new things and concepts that could use a god or two looking out for them (Firearms, cars, the internet, at some point AI systems, science, technology, the really technologically advanced WMDs we've been using, etc).

Now I also think it is unlikely that all of these new gods are pure blood. If there is one thing I took from reading about the gods is that they don't care who they put their dick in. It is logical that there are 3/4 Jotunn 1/4 Cherokee or some such beings running around.

I propose that we encourage our mutts to seek out and identify the new gods. They probably are the best qualified to do it. A god that is a mutt will probably open up to a mutt first.

Obviously this idea needs polishing. I'm not very good at articulating myself but I think you all understand my meaning.

Look at it this way:

Best case scenario we identify new gods.

Worst case scenario the mixed bloods go on a wild goose chase.

Pic unrelated

What the fuck. There is no way you can legitimately be this retarded. Please tell me you are a shill and not serious about this.

If you aren't a shill you need to seriously READ THE FUCKING STICKY. Holy shit seriously.

From the sticky:

Do you consider the Norse myths to be true?

The myths are stories about the Gods and Goddesses of Asatru. We believe they are ways of stating spiritual truths. That is, we would say they contain truths about the nature of divinity, our own nature, and the relationship between the two. We do not contend that the myths are literally true, as history. Rather, myth can be thought of as “the dream of the race” or “that which never happened, but is always true.

What about these Gods and Goddesses? Are they real?

Yes, they are real. However, just as most Christians do not think their God is really an old bearded figure sitting on a golden chair in heaven, we do not believe Thor (for example) is actually a muscular, man-shaped entity carrying a big hammer. There is a real Thor, but we approach an understanding of him through this particular mental picture.

The gods are not anthropomorphic deities, they are metaphors for esoteric principles and universal concepts.

Please just fuck off.

>Firearms, cars, the internet

In Catholicism we already have patron saints for those things. Pic related is the patron saint of the internet.

This thread actually reminds me of a question I wanted to ask here..

It seems like some of the gods were worshiped for characteristic skills, take Hephaestus for example, he was the god of blacksmiths. Now, do pagans see these deities as archetypal beings whose powers would also encompass modern day occupations, or do you think as OP does, that new gods must be created each time humans discover something? And if you believe the former is true, from which deities would you say should motorcyclists and astronauts seek patronage?

OP your post is bad and you should feel bad

this is just a dumb idea, we just make up new gods? The closest that the Germanic tribes or other pagans had to this was elevating great kings or emperors to god hood after they died. They didn't just make shit up as they went along. These religions developed over thousands of years.

and some of these concepts could be filled in with the existing gods. A car is literally a chariot, car is short for chariot, and Odin was known as god of wage a and carts, while vanir were gods of chariots and cultic wagons

guns could be applied to ullr for his bowmanship, or to tiwaz or Odin for its hunting and war ability.

and machine cults are a ways off m8 I would honestly worship computes but lets fucking real dude

this would really be better, if we had more of a cult of saints like the Catholics. Saints and cults like this are inherently Germanic idea. Heroes and great men were worshiped like saints to the Germanic tribes

I hate agreeing with the catholic but Catholics are third pagan anyways

>Saints and cults like this are inherently Germanic idea

Before the Jew religion came, we called those saints "gods".

but we didnt just have gods, we have many heroes like sigurd and widikind or raud the strong. not exactly the christian idea of a "saint" but its a similar, more of a cult of heroes than saints, or like the japanese kensei, "sword-saint"

also, remember that one of the best of heavens, valhalla in asgard, was reserved for the warriors like these heroes. we're given very detailed accounts of kings or jarls going to valhalla, such as hacon the good. valhalla is not the best or the only heaven, hell or afterlife in genera, we have 9 according to norse and 7 according to anglo saxon, but heaven and hell (valhalla and hel), this is a snorri-ish idea and a christian concept, but those that undermine the importance of valhalla fail to the see the point of why snorri made it the most prominently explained one in the first place. It was likely considered one of or even the highest of heavens, remember how important warrior cults were in most germanic societies.

>The gods are not anthropomorphic deities, they are metaphors for esoteric principles and universal concepts.

And new concepts have emerged. Like The Internet and WMDs.

…wait, so do you guys believe other religions are also "correct"? Like their gods are just different metaphors for the same concepts?

If that is the case, how do you explain dieties that unify or split concepts? For example the sumerians had a goddess of both war (Odin) and sex (Freyja) and the Aztec storm god was certainly no protector of humanity! (Thor)
