What are your opinions on the use of psychedelics to speak with the spiritual?

With Hallows eve coming up, and thus the veil between life and death thinning, I have been thinking about going on a shroom trip. I want to attempt to see the same things and experience the same things that our very distant shamanistic ancestors experienced. Something a la Graham Hancock.

Does anyone have experience with using psychedelics to connect with the Gods, the ancestors or the various spirits in general?

 No.8270

If you're really serious about this:

1) Do it within an extremely ritualized context.

2) Do it sparingly, like once or twice a year at the most. Don't treat such substances like a weekend party drug.

3) Substance-wise, if you're really serious, you might want to consider potentially swapping shrooms for Amanita muscaria or Henbane. WARNING: These substances aren't "fun" like LSD or shrooms, and can be potentially fatal if you treat them like a toy. BE CAREFUL AND DO YOUR GODDAMN RESEARCH. If you do decide to imbibe these substances, you will be doing it for sacrifice and knowledge, not to "trip mad balls yo."

yes, i am doing this to seek knowledge and experience, not for fun.

>Do it within an extremely ritualized context.

I was planning on a rune circle and a sacrifice to Wotan.

As for swapping out shrooms, due to my complete lack of experience with psychedelics, should i try shrooms first and then branch out?

thanks, good resources

That sounds sensible.

>I was planning on a rune circle and a sacrifice to Wotan.

Make damn sure you know your shit with the runes (there is at least one instance of someone in the sagas becoming ill because of not using the runes properly.) If you don't, you might be better off drawing a circle in the ground around the space your using (or making a circle out of rope, candles, etc.) or declaring the space you are in holy and consecrated (like in the context of a traditional blot)

>Make damn sure you know your shit with the runes

Ive just been learning, so perhaps its best to save that for later to make sure i get them right.

I have been wanting to, i dont know if become is the right word, but more explore the path of shamanism lately. I have a few boks on order. I want to speak with the ancestors and the gods for myself.

 No.8276

If you do this right, the way that I do it, you will talk to the gods. I know whenever some asshole claims to have spoken to their gods on the internet its a load of shit, but I know that I have spoken with my gods, or with something, on the effects of these drugs. But they wont speak to you just for taking shrooms, you must give them offerings too

I have taken psychedelics a few times and yes, it is not just a drug, it is a spiritual experience. This is not like weed or liquor, its not something you just do for fun. Youre going to have alot of inner insight, mostly spiritual, when on psychedelics, but your perception of everything, time and space, will be completely warped (or more accurately, realized fully)

When I took mushrooms (I ate 3 grams and a cap) I felt as if every rythmn in time was overlapping, until I could feel the entirety of the universe in one second. I couldnt speak because it felt like I was speaking past, present and future, which in the present just came out as murmuring and gargling.

the entire world looked like eyes and swastikas spiraling around in fractal patterns, and in the eyes their pupils were every color of the rainbow and some of them had black suns or swastikas as their pupils, but all of them had complex patterns, some I barely remember and had never seen before.

However, you must always remember that this is a spiritual drug, not just physical or mental. I did these shrooms at a bad time in life, had a lot of trouble with the law, no job and bad in school. halfway through the trip went bad and I felt like I was being flayed alive, not just physically but I felt like everyone who looked at me could see exactly what was in my soul, everything that I was ashamed of. In some ways you learn more from bad trips than good ones, I had alot of reflection the few days after that time.

Second time I tripped was with acid, took 2 tabs but this time I did it alone and early in the morning, praying at my shrine for the first hour or so when it really kicked in and I had a pretty personal experience with the gods, where I really did feel them talk to me. If you prepare for the trip and do it with the gods, you will be much more comfortable and not feel bad. Also make sure you take care of anything before. I then went and walked among the deserts where I live and gave offerings to the spirits.

AND DO NOT LOOK IN MIRRORS. This is actually what triggered my bad trip. If you look at your face when youre really tripping you will see some disturbing Jacobs Ladder-esque stuff, or at least I do.

And if youre going to do shrooms I would recommend that you grind the shrooms up (a blender works fine for this) and mix it with orange juice. It sounds weird, but trust me, you will trip fast and you will trip hard. also, it should be noted that soma (a mythical drink made by the Aryans that gave psychedelic effects) was made by pressing and grinding the plant into a drink, and its likely this unknown plant was a kind of mushroom.

So go with your ancient Aryan ancestors, the gods and the spirits and go into the spirit world friend

>>8270

and hes right as far as those materials because those are what our ancestors used, but listen to me, THESE SUBSTANCES HAVE POISON. you will puke if you consume these, yes you will trip very hard but it wont be enjoyable. the shrooms the aryans would have used were the same ones you typically find when you look for "shrooms", so its not really a huge deal.

our ancestors had no access to the traditional psychedelics (I.e. 5-HT partial agonists). the only people I'm aware of who did have access to such drugs in pre-modern times were various native American tribes.

take that into consideration: using psychedelics for asatru purposes is like worshipping Thor with a goddamm rain dance or something. it's illogical.

our ancestors, rather, had access to anticholingerics and amanita…and as >>8270 says: they're not fun, and using natural anticholingerics without autistic levels of knowledge will probably kill you. there's a reason volvae were a profession and why magic wasn't par for the religious course as it is in fluff neopaganism.

>he shrooms the aryans would have used were the same ones you typically find when you look for "shrooms", so its not really a huge deal.

shrooms are unattested in old world literature until the 1700s. your hypothetical "shroom eating Aryans" exist probably about as much as marija gimbutas' goddess cult "old Europeans".

Psilocybe semilanceata a psilocybin containing mushroom is spread throughout Northern and Central Europe.

A lack of surviving records does not mean they did not partake in useage of them. Traditional cultures tended to have a lot of knowledge of foraged berries/roots/fungi so I doubt they would not have known about them.

The real question is whether the usage of psychedelics counts as Seidhr and thus is Ergi.

 No.8282

>>8281

Are you calling Wodanaz Ergi? Weird as fuck guy though he may be, Varg has an interesting video on early seidr and explains his thoughts on where the perception of it being "unmanly" comes from in that practitioners had to emulate gender neutral spirits and as such, men would wear feminine clothes while performing it which is where our idea of wizards wearing silly robes comes from. Could be absolute shit, but it's interesting thinking.

speaking of volvae as a profession, do you think it would be wise for us to revive this as a profession? maybe when a kindred becomes strong enough, they should elect a vitki and volvae alongside the gothi.

 No.8284

>>8281

depends on how you define ergi, even old men were considered ergi sometimes. at its base and least abusive level ergi just means physically incompetent, which for someone under the effects of drugs or an old man its obvious why.

however at a more extreme level, it can mean the norse equivalent of faggot

I remember reading a runestone inscription that ends in a curse to anyone who moves the stone, with the exact words "Thor curse thee, ergi-witch"

 No.8286

>>8283

from my historical understanding of the role of volvae, it would be 90% pointless.

although we know volvae as seers and, well, magicians, to be frank, much of the historical role of the volva was as midwife. The same plants used for inducing a volva's trance are also used for the "twilight sleep" traditionally induced in childbirth prior to the modern age.

I don't really see much point in training midwives who use extremely dangerous birthing practices in this day and age.

>>8282

>Are you calling Wodanaz Ergi?

God's aren't subject to the social norms of men.

>Varg

varg injects so much bullshit into his historical research that he should be ignored in most cases, be damned what the general opinion of him here is. He's a fuckwit.

The unmanliness is obvious if you've ever used anticholingerics – they place you in an intensely vulnerable state, and with the traditional plant-based anticholingerics, this state can last for days. Hell, odin took 9 days "dead" to retrieve the runes. This is very typical of anticholingeric use – a death-like trance for days on end where anyone can kill you.

It's a state of the abandonment of all manly virtue, and slowly unravels the mind (anticholingerics cause neurodegenerative diseases if used frequently). it's unmanly–not explicitly "gay", but literally unmanly.

 No.8287

>>8283

also, as an addendum to why I think volvae shouldn't be revived:

the chemicals used by volvae are extremely dangerous. with how little we know about the specifics of spae and seidhr, I'd expect a handful of dead and mentally disabled volvae before a workable system could be reconstructed and tested.

>[Gods] aren't subject to the social norms of men.

Fair shout. Still, though - people are in states of physical vulnerability when particularly drunk but I think if we went back in time and started calling everyone pissed at a moot "ergi", we'd get few welcomes. A state lasting for days, though, does sound pretty awful. I think both of stances of "woah drugs are cool man haha" and "woah dude drinking makes you gay" are to be avoided - it would be best to set aside any personal feelings on any given drug and instead look at what we know. We know people drank a lot, people still drink a lot today. But did anyone use to take mushrooms? What kinds? Who took them and why? I think these are questions that need answering before "is it ergi?".
