>Ancient Celtic Religion

When thinking of Celtic religion, the first thing that comes to ones mind is generally Druidism, and maybe even Stonehenge. There were many other components to religion in Celtic society before the Common Era, and they were integrated within the daily life, and still remain part of the culture. The sources available are mostly second hand or legends that have become christianised over time, but we can still learn a lot about their beliefs, and how they were intertwined with daily life.

The people who lived 25,000 years ago were in awe of nature. They believed that each aspect of nature, such as rain, rivers; thunder and all other natural evens were personified with their own “deity”. This assigning of Gods to naturally occurring events is called “Animism”. The ancient people believed that a God controlled the rain, a different God controlled the wind and most importantly, a God controlled the hunt. Archaeological evidence suggests our ancestors made use of what is called “sympathetic” magick. To have a successful hunt, the tribe would make a life-like version of the animal they hoped to kill, and would act out the hunt. They believed that this would positively affect the real hunt. Among animism and sympathetic magick, there was also a Goddess of fertility.

There was a high mortality rate and to procreate, the fertility of women and men was extremely important. The Goddess represented childbearing, fertility of people, the earth and animals, and She was as important as the other Gods were.

Breton is a Brittonic language brought from Great Britain to Armorica by migrating Britons during the Early Middle Ages; it is thus an Insular Celtic language and not closely related to the Gaulish language, which had been spoken in pre-Roman Gaul. Breton is most closely related to Cornish, both being Southwestern Brittonic languages. Welsh and the extinct Cumbric are the more distantly-related Brittonic languages.

The other regional language of Brittany, Gallo, is a langue d'oïl. It is a Romance language, thus ultimately descended from Latin, (unlike the similarly-named ancient Celtic language Gaulish) and consequently very close to French, although not mutually intelligible.

Having declined from more than 1 million speakers around 1950 to about 200,000 in the first decade of the 21st century, Breton is classified as "severely endangered" by the UNESCO Atlas of the World's Languages in Danger. However, the number of children attending bilingual classes has risen 33 percent between 2006 and 2012 to 14,709.[3][6]

I really wish there was a counter-movement to Wicca for our celtic friends. It seems plain sad such an involved and ancient folk belief would be denigrated to postmodernist justification-feelies for all manner of degeneracy by hippies.

We could spearhead this effort, but it would take some effort i'd imagine

Maybe we could do a "Reconstructing the ancient celto-germanic folk belief" thread or smth

Celts are germanic. There are no "slavs".

Sure, we all have the same ancestors, but there has been a lot of different culture developed since then, and we are ever so slightly genetically different from one another now.

define germanic without muh haplogroups.

protip: it's actually a linguistic term, not a genetic one and always has been.

and please tell me about how slavs arent real. nice sources.

theres too much nazi autism here. im right wing as fuck, but pretending "we iz all germanicz" and "germanicz is only gud race, all others die :)" is childishly simplistic.

Okay I understand where you're coming from, if you identify with Celtics yet have someone labeling you as Germanic but just FYI your outburst sounds pretty /r/asatru right there. Germanic isn't a race? That sounds like some 'race is just a social construct' garbage you'd hear from a feminist. You're doing the same thing when you deny a germanic race as when he denies a celtic one. Ya goof'd.

>Muh haplogroups

Are you implying haplogroups aren't legitimate? Explain. It's the physical evidence of a shared ancestor which is the factual and biological component of race/ethnicity.

>>8715

How are there no slavs? Though ethnically the Poles and Czechs should not be claiming the same ethnicity as Russians & Serbians, the same would also be true of claiming Celts and Anglo Saxons were the same genepool gradient as the Norse. See pic 1: Most people in geographic Germany (esp the south) are about as North Germanic as those in Galicia, Spain (north west). And hey, North Eastern Germany is equal parts Norse and Slavic because the gene pool is about 30% Norse Haplo and 30% Slavic Haplo (Pic 2). When you have 22+3 chromosomes and thousands of years, you end up with a different gradient of genes for any particular geographic region independent of language or modern political boundary. Spread of a language or geographic border is not the same as the spread of an ethnicity. Scandinavia is a special case in how closely related it is over such a large geographic boundary, but that purity radiates away from Scandinavia and fades off into the gradients of other subraces like Celts and Germans and Slavs.

>stonehenge

stonehenge was built before celts came to britain m8

>>9003

well actually the celts were probably older than germanics, and if anything, germanics probably descended from celts. but thing is, celtic languages are a lot different from germanic languages, and the same thing applies to their religions and cultures. just think about it, there are two groups of people, and they speak languages that do not even sound close to each other, and they have different gods and different ways to see stuff, would you still call them the same? going really far back, they were once one, but now they've grown appart, each one of them with their own cultures and religions and worldviews.
