Getting the ball rolling

This board is dead right now, if you want it to live just post whatever space images you have

I'll put up this sticky in case anyone is dropping by, wondering if there is an Astronomy board.
There is, as well as /astro/ and /astr/. There aren't any posts as of yet, the others had one/two. Do check them out, I thought it would be handy to have it named /astronomy/ for people looking through boards.

I'd like this board to be very discussion based, nobody being afraid to ask for help, nobody being
afraid of 'bragging'. It would be incredibly helpful if when you upload a picture, specify what ISO/
exposure length and all that jazz, maybe detail how you spent the evening getting that photo, it
should all be pleasant and relaxed.

If you're here, you like Astronomy, or are looking to get into it. I'll put up a Wiki for sure,
detailing telescope setups for all needs, and information to start you off. Yeah, if you want a chan
board up and running just make a thread. Doesn't really matter what, if you have some pictures upload
them with some text, anything "I took this, really proud and wanted to share" or "I tried taking
such-and-such, but got this, any tips?". Eventually the ball might get rolling, and then if people
drop on by they will see a decent catalogue and be encouraged to post. It's just a matter of getting
it going.

Oekaki is enabled because it's always refreshing to see drawn pictures. For now, threads need a
subject; If you have a bunch of pictures, sure upload them together, but preferably individual
objects being the subject and having their own thread. When searching through the catalogue people
will see "Orion Nebula" and post theirs into that.

Post your pictures! It'll probably end up being a banner. Would like to make them gifs, bear with me.

Lunar

Got a real cheap refractor telescope, help smartphone up to eyepiece and took a photo. Looks good

Great Orion Nebula

Seeing the Orion Nebula for the first time has been the biggest "wow" for me.

After getting a DSLR, I quickly put it onto a cheapy alt-az and pointed it in the general direction of the constellation. Took a 4" exposure @ 1600iso, stared at the blank screen waiting for the camera to load up the frame.

BAM there it is, all this shit just comes out of nowhere, millions more stars that were invisible to me, the nebula is huge, it was so awe-inspiring to know that this huge object is just sitting there in the sky and you just can't see it but it is there. Really amazing, really pretty.

Well the photos I have are terrible, I don't have a tracking solution as of yet but when I do they should be much better.

Another point, I have an equatorial mount with a motor, but can't seem to get it working. On it's own the motor does work. I do polar alignment, attach the motor, make sure everything is secured correctly but it simply does not track.

The photos are using a £40 70mm refractor and Nikon D3200, iso of 1600 and exposure of 4 seconds. The scope I've been having trouble with is a Celestron 130Eq-MD, a 130mm reflector.

Equipment general

>tfw astrophotography on visual astronomy budget

Ah the woe's of cheap chinese shit.

I was trying to image M13 Cluster. My Celestron 130EQ just cannot cope with the weight/moment of the DSLR attached, it won't stay still. I tried using a second alt-az mount to prop up the camera and relieve the EQ mount, but by that time the sun came up.

shitty weather

God damnit I've seen atleast two planets in the sky for a couple of days now, and when I finally have time to take out my telescope it's cloudy as shit

Anyways did you guys see the solar eclipse? I missed it because of the same reason mentioned above

Eclipse 20/3/15

Fucking British clouds everywhere, all my gear got rained on. At around 10:00 with 15 minutes left of the eclipse they cleared a little and I was able to get a mosaic done in a rush.

Would've like to taken images every 10 minutes or so to make a timelapse, hell I would've like to have seen it at 95% instead of ~20%.

Any Britbongs get any sneaky snaps? Lucky bastards in Warwick got clear skies.

I know that this is meant for showing pics but what's better than pics? Maybe going in a simulator? Well you guys should check out Space Engine. Pic Unrelated

Jupiter

I've been making some progress with Jupiter, quite happy with the latest image seeing as they are never stacked, and I'm still a beginner using a beginner scope, but there's progress. First image was using the same scope as the second but with a webcam.
