New to this board and want to know the rules? Have a question for atheists? Then you should probably read the FAQ (Updated: 3/19/15). It's not necessary, but don't be surprised if people ignore you if you don't elaborate further on a question already answered here, or the moderator does something you didn't expect.

Let me get straight to the point. We need to start a movement. Nobody is going to look out for us. Atheists are the most hated group even more so than blacks, Muslims, gays, and criminals. We need to band together to help each other.

If you see an atheist in a debate, help him.

If you see an atheist in financial trouble, help him.

If you see an atheist who is being a dumbass, call him out on it.

If you see two people in need, help the atheist first then help the other person.

Go out of your way to be kind to everyone you meet, atheist or no, even if that kindness is never repaid, it will be with the right person.

Atheist morals are superior to theistic morals, we do not answer to an imaginary entity, we answer to ourselves and our community. Repay kindness with kindness, and repay unkindness with unkindness.

Only be dishonest when it is necessary. People do not trust a liar. Do what benefits you and your family and community.

We need to look out for each other in these times. We are all we have. Once we look out for others, others will look out for us. That is not to say that we will change any minds, I do not expect to. What I expect to do is create a better life in the midst of physical, political, and societal attacks on us.

And always be skeptical, if someone is trying to manipulate you or take advantage of your kindness, regardless if they are atheist or not, show no kindness to them.

Never initiate physical violence with any person, only utilize self-defense.

You help me and I will help you. This world is hostile to us. We all need help every once in a while.

Help and be helped. Spread the word. A helping hand goes a long way. A kindness is done to you, return the kindness, an unkindness is done to you, cut off all ties with that person.

All atheists can be put into two groups: Deistic Atheists (the ones who believes science is God/Absolute) and Nihilistic Atheists (the ones who believe science is Empty/relative).

What a pile of shit:

>Almost no one believes science is God/Absolute.

It's a to gather knowledge but that's it.

>Almost no one believes science is empty/relative

Congratulation, you made a false dichotomy of two straw man.

I don't want to trade my old Theist cult mentality for an Atheist cult mentality. In 50 years we may replace the older generation anyway, and then we won't be special snowflakes because nearly everyone will be an atheist. I recently met a 20ish ESL teacher who has tutored in Mexico and who is going to Korea; he grew up in the midwest and was agnostic. That's the natural future as we continue to become more international/cosmopolitan thanks to cheaper airfare, free trade, and the internet.

Travel a lot, read perspectives from around the globe, and it becomes easy to question yourself. We are better at seeing the flaws in other people than in ourselves, and once you observe a flaw in the thinking of a foreigner, it becomes easier to identify the same flaw when you look in a mirror.

It's hard to back every atheist. Communists are atheists too.

Being an atheist just means you don't believe in the supernatural. That's not much to build unity with.

Atheists can vary tremendously in their ideology.

True, but that's not what I'm talking about. I never said that every atheist will agree.

>>10620

>Well, by no means are we popular, but for the most part I've never experienced much in the way of discrimination for my lack of belief in Canada

Good for you.

>Also this. Building a community around something like atheism is difficult.

Not really, people are atheists, build a community with those people.

33b4c0 No.10641

Honestly, having a loosly based following of atheists would be great if it actually REMAINED loose. I don't know about you guys, but I'd feel a lot better promoting my beleifs in my red state if I had some backup. I want people to question their beleifs, and hopefully escape from their religious captivity, especially heavily misguided people who are LGBT yet still beleive in that shit. Ammending religion is not the answer to improve quality of life. 2050 is also too far off.

One great thing such a grouping could do is buy out closed down churches, rearrange or get rid of the pews, maybe put an entertainment center where the preacher used to be, and it could be turned into a place where the community gets together, gets to know each other, and discusses all sorts of stuff, be it life, life lessons, politics, help from others, whatever. To me that's real "spiritual enlightenment"

And well you know about the USSR.

As much as I like freedom of thought I think it's what allows religion to persist. If political correctness wasn't narrative pushing but instead enforcing the facts it'd be great. We'd have state-wide atheism without bullshit narratives.

without any other point of reference I would love to benefit the atheist first. The problem is that atheism isn't popular in my shithole christian country, but it is easy to rule out religious people who expose their religious symbols.

>Repay kindness with kindness, and repay unkindness with unkindness.

I do not abide by Kantian ethics. I don't want my kindness to be limited to mimic. If I can do greater good than others and benefit from it in exchange, not necessarily through reciprocity, then I will do it. Also according to golden rule ethics it is moral for a masochist to cause you harm, since he expects to receive harm from others.

Save for imposition as occurred in the USSR, the great thing about atheism is that it is a loose group, it grows naturally, and it doesn't depend on atheists sharing an ethnicity or a set of spurious beliefs.

These two positions are incompatible with each other, but that doesn't mean they are everything there is. It is a false dichotomy.

Most atheists don't think science is absolute truth but that doesn't mean atheists think science is as far from truth as other claims.

>>10656

atheism is popular among communists because Marx was an atheist and so were Lenin and Stalin, the latter going as far as making his regime imposing atheism. However that doesn't mean atheism is a consequence of communism, nor that communism is a consequence of atheism. Marx's interesting, yet simplistic, materialist analysis of history and historical economy could have been given by a theist as well. Engels was a theist

Well i said superset.

Deist believes in a god creating a world, theist believes in a god creating AND controlling a world. A theist is a deist, but a deist is not necessary a theist.

If a person is not an apatheist, they are either a deist or a theist.

Pantheism is also a subset of deism, and can overlap with theism.

Science is the process by which we find the truth. Colloquially facts about nature are called science. Nothing about this necessitates a God, especially the second part which I'm assuming is what you're talking about when saying 'science'.
