New to this board and want to know the rules? Have a question for atheists? Then you should probably read the FAQ (Updated: 3/19/15). It's not necessary, but don't be surprised if people ignore you if you don't elaborate further on a question already answered here, or the moderator does something you didn't expect.

How do you deal with people who say things along the lines of, God isn't an object in the universe, or God is beyond space-time, God is what sustains the universe, etc, etc

e53755 No.10861

Where is the evidence?

15bc3a No.10862

>God isn't an object in the universe

Damn right lol

>God is beyond space-time

Prove it.

>God is what sustains the universe

Why assume the universe isn't self-sustaining? The more we learn about how it works, the more this seems to be the case.

335f93 No.10863

If God is outside of the universe, he isn't interacting with it. He certainly can't add anything new without entering the universe.

And yet people who didn't even know the Earth moved was able to know so much about him? Sounds more like God was just above the clouds until man invented the telescope and theists have just been pushing him further away in order to justify the fact that so far, there's no evidence for his existence.

2632eb No.10877

Such propositions are unfalsifiable and therefore by definition completely meaningless.

>How do you deal with people who say things along the lines of, God isn't an object in the universe, or God is beyond space-time, God is what sustains the universe, etc, etc

I would simply ask whether they have any possible reason to be telling me something I have absolutely no interest in. Just like when people knock on my door and ask if they can talk to me about the bible. I just say, start talking. I will leave this dictaphone on record and listen to it later. I have some things to do in the meantime

God at some point had to enter the universe otherwise there's no Jesus, and he could not convey the gospels. If he left the universe thereafter, he is still negligent and responsible for the harm caused by differing interpretations of the bible in his absence, during the European wars of religion.

Then again, if a mortal did meet 'the Creator', he would have no way of living long enough to know whether he was immortal. Or of knowing he was all powerful, and not simply a mortal 'builder,' which is the "humans could identify God" fallacy.

>God at some point had to enter the universe otherwise there's no Jesus

implying christianity knows anything about god

>implying god is a christian

e53755 No.10921

A god is a god. Your god has just about as much evidence to prove he exists as the christfag god. ie: none

So it's prudent to assume that this "god" in whatever way you define it, doesn't exist.

I ask them which is more horrible, a god that doesn't care about them or no god at all?

These new concepts of god are pretty much that.

Then stop acting like it.

This. They change their ideas about God but pretend they don't and even brag how their unchanged view is even a proof that it's right.

I don't even know what being outside the universe and beyond space-time means. I can't follow up with your argument because it relies on some dishonest shit. try to glimpse the difference between speculation and fact.

bunch of unjustified claims. that you can posit something that exists beyond the universe doesn't mean I have to take it for granted. in fact if you don't show the evidence I am, just as you are, compelled to not believe it's true.

the answer for what sustains the universe could be anything else, or it could be a meaningless question and I don't think you have a satisfactory answer.

now if you want to stretch your baseless claims by adding that it is impossible to give proof or evidence because of the nature of god, human limits, etc., then you have to also show that we can't test god as well as showing that there's such a god, and you can't possibly satisfy these two claims. if the alleged god is not only out of our reality but also impossible to prove or disprove then I have even more reasons to not care about him and believe that his existence is real.

>>10862

>>God isn't an object in the universe

>Damn right lol

haha.

this shows how thin the arguments for god are. god is a something that doesn't exist in the same and only way all things we know to exist exist, and you are supposed to accept this bullshit as the most meaningful and relevant fact in life.

then we have the faggots who actually think it is important to emphasize that god is an active part of the world.

>you don't know anon, god is an energy of the cosmos whoo-whoo!

>god is love

>praise the lord, he cured my cancer and makes statues cry holly blood

>>10869

there are many good rebuttals from atheists in the comments section, as well as this bigoted bitch:

>why do Catholic universities allow atheists to take over entire departments and create more atheists? Sad to think Catholic parents probably have no idea when they send little Bobby and Suzy off to these schools.

I bet there are more atheists watching his video than superstition-seeking theists

Generally, my response is along the lines of

>well, what is he hiding from, the sin that he created?

Weak, I know, but still…

OP here. I've been thinking about this today again, and I realized l. This is(like all christian apologetics) sophistry. They use fancy words and complex sounding arguments to mask the fact that they have nothing. It's all a cover. Take the great st Thomas Aquinas, the greatest catholic thinker in nearly 2000 years of tradition. His arguments sound nice, but it has more to do with choice of words, you here things like "potentiality", "actuality", "ends","perfection". It's word play to cover up faulty logic and more importantly lack of an evidence, because at the end of the day no matter who good your reasoning, arguments, or logic is if you want to know if something actually exist you have to go out and look for it in the real physical world
