If Atheism is the jumping point to Skepticism, and Skepticism is a superior way of viewing the world, where does Skepticism lead? I'm worried that I am a zeitgeist that still possesses ungrounded beliefs, and that I will fail to transcend to a higher state of critical thinking.

Waking up from religion is a start, but now I want a second awakening/paradigm shift, except I just don't know where to look. I am trying to break free of the constraints of my time, so I can imagine how Utopia will look when we've solved our current problems, so I know what to work towards.

Skepticism leads to atheism, not the other way around if you're taking the reasoned approach.

Yes, but they are also intertwined. Unless you lack a thirst for knowledge and haven't done research, it'd be hard to be religious and still call yourself a Skeptic. I'm interested in uncovering the illusions in life.

Well that's one thing a secular/naturalist outlook can't give you. These precisely defined enlightened mind states that you progress to like you find in Eastern religions. There's no nirvana at the end of the road so to speak. Atheism is really just our best or most honest guess.

If you're taking everything with a grain of salt and preferring to wait for the facts before making a judgement. Congratulations, you're a skeptic.

"Utopia" is from the Greek for "No Place".

Utopia doesn't happen.

We solve when set of social problems only to have another set pop up.

And most social problems never end.. we will also have some level of crime, substance abuse, and the like.

All we can do is manage those problems well.

I've yet to see any link between being an atheist and being skeptical.

Skepticism is a scientific point of view applied on everything. Some atheists are still new age hippies who think water has memory and wishing creates reality.

I personally think there will always be irrational people. We are evolved to use the quick and dirty way of thinking.

How can you be an atheist and still believe in Magic?

Easy, you reject god but still hold to irrational bullshit.

I'm willing to bet most people who like that spirit science shit are technically atheists.

>I am a zeitgeist

How can anyone be a zeitgeist? I think that you are using that word wrongly.

933dfe No.11527

>>11526

The Zeitgeist is the embodiment of the spirit of a time or era. It's when your thinking typifies that of an era.

bc6a40 No.11529

The concepts of nirvana and moksha are just more gods that atheism will destroy.

This is what a naturalistic atheism preaches, at least: that this is all there is.

If you cling to sacred cows you will end up dealing with a lot of bullshit.

>is the embodiment

No, it isn't the embodiment. It literally is the spirit of a time or era. You can't be 'a zeitgeist'.

933dfe No.11531

>>11530

If there isn't a word for what I mean yet, then I will have to find one or make one. Zeitgeistian is now a word. If you weren't so zeitgeistical you could have invented it first. You're making me feel so limited by the primitive vocabulary of this time.

>where does Skepticism lead?

this is not the question you should be asking. seek for truth wherever it leads, and be honest when you don't have a valid answer.

>>11491

yes, but atheism is just a subset of skepticism

6a48cc No.11585

There is no future beyond atheism. Atheism leads to nothing. Don't be mad, it's the future you chose.

9e3ca0 No.11586

>>11585

Oh noes.. I won't get to go to the big rock candy mountain in the sky when I die!

The world goes on after you cease to be, that's the future.
