Medicine in the bible is always a joke too. It's worse than Chinese medicine because it relies on dumb rituals with priests, while Chinese medicine actually has herbs and stuff so it might be true sometimes. Except it usually isn't either because it focuses on eating things because for their essences.

It's funny; I was actually watching a Dawkins talk that he did with Krauss where Krauss talks about how bullshit rituals like your video came about. They've actually watched something similar arise in pigeons who were given rewards at random. The pigeons actually developed strange rituals such as turning in circles several times and pecking at the floor to try and bring about the reward.

Ah yeah. I think the idea could have merit, but I have heard that the pidgeon study suffered from observation bias, and reported behavior included pigeons doing regular pigeon things. It might just be a factoid that's only true because people think it is.
