inconsequential hypothetical question thread

You have a choice, /atheism/. You have an option to go back in time to any place on the planet between 6,000 and 12,000BCE. There is no coming back. You will die there. Probably young and of some era-appropriate ailement.

Despite this, you will have a mission that you have been guaranteed by the people sending you will work: to educate primitives on science and other subjects, jump-starting modern ideas on science/technology and retarding the growth of religion in this general region (probably en masse). We'll also assume that you will be taught whatever language the locals use and receive training on the culture of the group that you're going to teach.

1. Do you accept? Is it worth your modern life to know that you will push forward technology by thousands of years and possibly prevent the spread of institutionalized religion?

2.When/where would you go? What group would have the strategic clout to make this goal most viable?

3.What would you bring for education/personal use, such as a cell phone with a solar charger or an e-reader? What about something that would create strong initial impressions on the people you're sent to?

7843cf No.14375

I wouldn't accept it because I know I'd be a shitty teacher. I can't stand talking to other people and even less so with ignorant people.

I wouldn't accept for selfish reasons and because in 6000 BC there were few cities. The first ones to develop writing were in Sumeria circa 5000 BC (which is beyond your parameters), and that'd be in a fucking desert. I'm sure no one would listen to me either unless I brought a flamethrower and some magic tricks. That said Sumeria or ancient China would be the best bet, because people who can write should be relatively more civilized.

Cuneiform was in 3000 BC.* How can they preserve what I know if they're too barbaric to have writing?

Maybe I was a bit too specific with the OP. I guess any time would do; I was just trying to keep the smartasses at bay.

I don't know if it'd do anything against religion as they'd probably worship you as a god or kill you but of course it'd probably advance humanity somewhat.

But I doubt it. Humanity has advanced enough that we're a bit more mature in handling powerful technology and we have, hopefully, thousands more years to advance enough to either take care of this planet or move on to another one before something catastrophic happens.

I don't know, maybe for selfish reasons to see what early civilization was like if I was old with little time left but I could almost guarantee it'd suck for us.

>and that'd be in a fucking desert.

The climate of Mesopotamia 4000 years ago was quite different from today.

You dates go too far back, no civilizations existed back then, our best bets would be to go to ancient Sumerian civilization. I would suppose going the earliest would be the best because it would influence all following civilization.

Well I am quite a math fag but not that great with natural sciences. However I could make some arguments for empiricism, falsification, Occam's razor, the scientific method, logical fallacies, etc. I would also make arguments for germ theory of disease, evolution, heliocentrism, round earth etc but it probably would be hard to do all that. I don't know how far I could go though, I'd probably rub elbows against the priest at some point so I would have to be very careful and wait till the end of my life till I write my most controversial arguments. However I think the earlier a skeptic exist the better for human history.

I think having a cellphone, firearm, flashlight or other somewhat modern invention would be amazing enough to keep them from killing you, especially if you arrived in the time period with the knowledge of how to manufacture antibiotics and other medication. After miraculously healing a few sick kids, you would probably become too valuable to kill, after which you could begin teaching them that you were, in fact, not magical.

This all reminds me of the movie "The God's Must be Crazy".

>write several hundred scrolls in modern english

>hide them in jars scattered around sites that I know are going to be discovered

But anon, what would you write on those scrolls?

make america great again ;)

If I were to quit smoking and drinking like I do now, I would probably end up living the same length of time anyways, so I'd probably take it. This would be especially true if I were able to implement modern hygiene standards in the women, too. You'd probably get a lot of pussy for your godlike status, so you'd better teach them how to clean up.

There is one thing that kind of trips me up, though. Languages don't map out exactly, as anyone who has read different translations of the same religious texts can attest to. They've also evolved over the years to communicate ever increasingly abstract concepts. These together mean that, even if you understood the language and culture, actually getting an idea across to them would be very difficult. For instance, do you explain germs as tiny bugs? They might then begin ritually clapping their hands before meals to squish the bugs rather than washing them.

Illustrations. If you can figure out how to visualize some of the stuff you're talking about, that should be able to fix some language barrier issues.

Question 2:

You are now God. Intelligently design an organism.

A human like species capable of breeding with humans but their offspring are far more rational and scientifically minded. After a few generations, the offspring will begin having innate knowledge in mathematics and sciences.

This new species will eventually take over the planet and go to space.

1. yes

2. whatever the proto-Egyptians were. As far as civilizations were concerned, they were the earliest you could go and still matter. They also apparently had some pre-existing drive to build things and learn.

3. I'd bring the most durable laptop possible with a compliment of batteries and solar chargers and load it to the brim with as much applicable data as possible; all of wikipedia with the linked sources, textbooks on chemistry, biology, astronomy, engineering, mathematics- pretty much every subject applicable to the life there. With ample data, you could begin an entire industrial revolution. I would also want to be able to synthesize as much medicine as I could and be able to have the knowledge to survive before I made first contact with them.

I'd also bring a microscope and telescope to use for demonstration purposes to help with explaining things.

1. Yeah, I mean I guess.

2. UK, specifically Scotland. There isn't,

3. Three items, laptop with solar charge, a fucking flamethrower and a daft punk suit.

(Blast music namely Rush Tom Sawyer, claim to be Apollo, prove it by blasting shit with fire, teach a good teacher how to use laptop and to use religion to manipulate the masses, tell him the world will always need an 'Apollo' etc. Give him a bunch of shit to read and create a council of elders to maintain this information.

Go up to a mountain or something and make it my home, have the elders meet with me and elect one as the next Apollo. Fug woad bitches, fug slaves, get high as shit and die knowing that I've created Jews)

QUESTION 2

A human being is fine, though we should be able to breathe underwater so something like Abe Sapien that is able to transcend it's mortal form.

There's no way that I'd make a nerve transmit data like they do now. They are ridiculously slow compared to normal electrical signals, due to the bass ackwards and overly complex system that a nerve uses to transmit an electrical potential.

Humans would have a triple eyelid too like camels so you could close one to prevent snowblindness, keep out the dust, and walk into windstorms, dust storms, and truck exhaust without having to wear goggles or close your eyes completely. In fact I might give humans another set of eyes either with telescopic vision equal to that of a bird of prey, or extreme night vision (or at least a tapetum for cat night vision), and a mechanism for comfortably keeping them closed when the other eyes were open.

One set of eyes would have to be able to see ultraviolet too, and would be able to directly appreciate a sunset without lasting eye damage. All eyes would recover from damage, and no one would need to wear glasses. Dry eye syndrome and eye diseases would not exist and progress.

I think I would give humans a prehensile long tail too for grasping objects, and maybe a pair of swiveling Andalite antlers with another set of eyes on the tip so you could check your surroundings for predators or enemies without moving your head. This set could move independently of each other like a chameleon's. Either that or dragon fly eyes on the side of your neck for giving you 360 degree vision - nothing could sneak up on you.

Everyone would be born with nanites for self repair (no more cancer), and you would have a super computer stored inside of you for memorizing facts, storing a photographic/sensory memory, doing calculations, and automating daily tasks. This computer would be able to hook up to the internet too via wi-fi or something so you could mentally chat or share memories.

BRAIN GOES IN THE MIDDLE GODDAMNIT

Think about it: why the fuck would we have our brains out on this head, exposed to the elements and attack when you could just have a sensory stalk coming out the top? It also saves on wiring to keep the brain centrally located.
