I don't think this that big of a deal.
I've meet some smart religious people.

and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to question the existence of God.

I think being an atheist is more about a type of courage than being smart.
It takes courage to be responsible for your own life, and it's scary when you first realize the universe is indifferent.

Lot of very smart people create some very elaborate theories to avoid facing the emptiness of the universe.

No surprising considering black people are the most religiously euphoric people on the planet.

Why does every image board I've even been to dislike black folks?

New to imageboards? You say it like it's a mystery.

Say what you want about them, but they can jam though.

Who cares? I'm an atheist and some of the dumbest people I know and see on the internet are atheists.

Ah, the politically correct leftist atheist. One whose heart bleeds for the others so he has to compensate by denigrating his peers.

 No.1702

>>1701

I'm sorry! Please forgive me for not unconditionally defending whatever my "peers" do or say! Don't expel me from your cult I beg you! I promise to never again criticize anyone's intellect, no matter how wrong or dumb they are, if they label themselves as atheists!

Is that better?

Go play psychologist with someone else.

 No.1704

The correlation is understandable, as religious fundamentalists (there are more of them than you think) do not usually occupy themselves with critical thinking or science education.

However, I do not see a reason to consider it an argument in debates (or just a weak one, like "do you want your children to be idiots?").

Agreed.

Is resorting to memes in order to save face a tenet of your atheist cult? Because I have a huge folder of cool memes I'd love to share with my "peers"!

Yes, I know meme pics are 2007. I only use them ironically.

Hahaha! This fucking guy right here, man. This guy is why people hate atheists.

 No.1711

>>1710

Quite the contrary, in fact. They hate them because they perceive them as childish, intolerant and dogmatic, such as >>1701 or yourself, who are "triggered" by anyone who dares to make the slightest criticism (accurate observation in this case) of your holy atheist order and resort to petty playground name-calling "Oh, you called me that??? You must be a politically correct leftist atheist!!!1 LMFAO!!! Butthurt!!! This guy is why people hate atheists!!!" instead of even acknowledging the sinful thought that some atheists are in fact dumb.

Wow. I wasn't being very serious. Now you, you're a pretty serious fellow. And might I say, a try-hard crybaby?

Do I look like I'm here looking for social acceptance? I seek truth. Not what doesn't make people cry. Truth is sometimes better found when you don't care about appeasing others.

Your generalizations of atheists are just as foul and ignorant as you view others.

DAE hate le atheist!111

I never said that they weren't. This is how stupid you are; you're supporting me without even realizing it.

Some atheists are indeed dumb, and you're one of them.

 No.1714

>>1712

Here's your truth:

>I make mild negative comment about atheists in my experience

>Immediately get knee-jerk reactions, name-calling, bullshit psychological assumptions, meme spouting and so on

What are my generalizations of atheists, may I ask? I'm simply deriving from your reactions, which are typical of most atheists.

>>1713

You didn't, yet you immediately felt the need to jump in and comment on how I denigrate your brothers with my tame little comment in order to compensate blah, blah, blah, instead of not saying anything at all. Can't an atheist question atheism and its followers without you taking offense?

So much euphoria, so much butthurt. You didn't question atheists, you made an anecdotal derogatory comment towards atheists in classic troll fashion.

We're not a cult, we're not your buddies but when you talk shit about the group, expect the group to give you shit. Take your autism elsewhere.

 No.1717

>>1716

I wasn't trying to "troll" anyone because my comment wasn't even intended for any of you. I made it clear that I was talking about the group of atheists *I* know and have read on the internet. I never said anything about any of *you* in particular, yet your little cult-like mentality immediately kicked in and you couldn't simply read anything negative even about the atheists *I've* encountered in *my* experience without feeling it's directed towards you.

 No.1719

>>1717

I've met some friendly athiests in my time. I've met a few that were grumpy and likes to talk shit about other people. You'd definitely be one of the grumpy ones that likes to talk shit about other people, that is if I was like you and liked to group people together and judge them. Normally I think that's better reserved for shitposting though, as you've done. I'm sure talking shit about others makes you feel euphoric but you should chill.

 No.1721

>>1719

If you think "liking to talk shit about other people" is simply saying once that some people you've encountered are dumb, then I have to assume you're still very young. I'm not grouping just any people and judging them. If you read the post you're responding to carefully, you'll notice that I'm referring to some people I've met and read in my personal experience. I'm not grouping all atheists in the world and saying they're dumb, as some of you seem to think I'm doing. And I'm merely responding to the accusations I get. I don't see how that's "shitposting" as I'm not trying to troll anyone, unless you think "shitposting" is anything you don't agree with. Also, I'm very chilled. Not sure why you'd think otherwise. It's not like I'm swearing or anything.

I've seen this book by Dawkins mentioned several times on this board. The Amazon reviews said its strongest arguments were on biology and against intelligent design and had weaker philosiphical arguments, since Dawkins is biologist. I have already debunked intelligent design and think the book is just preaching to the choir. Must I read it?

 No.3287

I expected stronger correlation.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23921675
>means of weighted and unweighted correlations between intelligence and the strength of religious beliefs ranged from -.20 to -.25 (mean r = -.24).
Somewhat low but not insignificant.

 No.3294

>>3286
There's no required reading for atheism. Recommended sure, but you don't need to read any of Dawkins' books to be an atheist. If you don't want to read it you don't have to.

I'm much more recommend Letters From the Earth by Mark Twain.

>Must I read it?
Fuck no. If you already don't believe why would you think you need convincing? Your time would be better spent looking for the best theist arguments and figuring out what's wrong with them. That's how you sharpen your mind.

Different anon. Isn't that what the book is about?
