I remember back when The Amazing Atheist actually mattered on YouTube - when The Amazing Atheist actually had somebody to fight. You don't need much mental capacity to be the voice of reason speaking out against the crazy people of YouTube, as if speaking out against them would in any way make them stop. YouTube needed somebody to speak up against bullshit, and this guy jumped at the idea.
…but over the years, as YouTube became infamous for its self-policing mockery campaigns, The Amazing Atheist found himself out of a job. First he started bringing up other issues: Censorship (95% bullshit), Feminism (90% bullshit), weed (60% bullshit), and so on.
Maybe it's the weed smoking that is finally taking its toll, but now he's down to mocking people who doesn't agree with him. He's using the same mocking smugness, picking on people mispronouncing words, chopping up their videos in the middle of sentences, and leaning against the mystical argument "Well, we have MOUNTAINS of evidence for what I think. It's all science." even when he's factually wrong. YouTube atheists like The Armoured Skeptic actually bother to look up counterarguments against the arguments they get, refuting them with an educated opinion. All The Amazing Atheist has, is "reason". …and mixed with enough stupidity, reason can be used to justify anything. In the medieval times, it's reasonable to believe in a god, as the "mountains of evidence" was on the side of religion. Up until this year, it was "reasonable" to believe that weed was dangerous, as that's what the government promoted science studies told you to believe. Doubting them, that's radical thinking. Thinking outside the box that society has built for you, that's unreasonable thinking.
…but it's not like The Amazing Atheist is even consistent on this point, as weed and anti-feminism is going against "the mountains of evidence" that he supposes that society has for everything. At that point reason ceases to be a mask for ignorance, and he goes off on his own, still as self-confident as ever, this "voice of reason".
…so it is with a heavy heart, that I reject my Lord and Saviour The Amazing Atheist. You were once one of the sanest people on YouTube, but you have now finally succumbed to your own bullshit.
Amen

I remember back to the glory days when TJ was first starting. He was actually funny and he made some good points. He wasn't afraid to call out bullshit from blacks or Muslims. Over the years it's been almost depressing to watch the quality of his videos deteriorate along with his mental health. Now he's a complete libtard laughing stock who almost never has good arguments and shills for browser games at the start of his videos.

Honestly, as far as Atheist Youtubers go, I usually prefer people like Armoured Skeptic and Steve Shives. Also Bible Reloaded is pretty good. They usually have a lot of thought and substance put into their videos. Or, at the very least, they're creative. (Like an Atheist Bible Study)
I still watch TJ from time to time, but his imitators are pretty annoying. Cult of Dusty is fucking lame, Jaclyn Glenn is meh, and Repzion is just plain annoying. I also don't give a fuck about the "logic" wear they like to peddle.

I remember he actually used to do a good job of debunking claims made by the religious. From what I've last seen, it's mostly him talking in front of the camera but not really responding to anything.
Good youtube channel is CoolHardLogic. Not strictly atheism but more science vs pseudoscience general but the guy does a thorough job at wrecking geocentrist arguments.
—
On another note. Has anyone noticed how there doesn't seem to be as many prominent atheist youtubers anymore? A few years ago there used to be several but now everyone has moved on. Back in 2009 I think was the height of Youtube atheism.

>>607Here's the ones off the top of my head. Some of them are new, some aren't:
Darkmatter, Steve Shives, Thunderf00t, Armoured Skeptic, Bible Reloaded, Aron Ra, Cult of Dusty, Jaclyn Glen, Mr.Repzion (sorta), Vegan Atheist, Logicked, CoolhardLogic, Creationist cat, King Crocoduck, Girldoesrant (Again, kinda), Arguing from ignorance, the amazing atheist…
People come and go, but Youtube wasn't what it was in 2009. The community was more involved with its self, vlogging was the big thing, and people would interact, through videos, with each other. You could actually reply to videos back then. Not only that, but people would be more inclined to, since it wasn't seen as bad press for you.
Since you can make a substantial income off of youtube now, people are less inclined to hurt their profits. That's probably why TJ seems a little more tame.
So, I think the Atheist community on Youtube is still pretty strong - it's just the nature of Youtube has changed. I remember back in 2009 when I would binge watch shit video replies on youtube over fights being had between people. (Back then I wasn't an atheist, so I didn't really watch the Atheists channels as much. I did watch the shit between conspiracy theorists and shit though.)

No love for my favorite gayfag, Justicar? He doesn't talk much about religious topics, so it's probably more accurate to describe his channel as being dedicated to skepticism. What I like about Justicar is that he is willing to call out anyone out on their bullshit, including atheists. These last few days he has been tearing GrapplingIgnorance a new asshole in the comment section of his video on privilege. He says exactly what he sees wrong with your argument/reasoning and he doesn't sugarcoat it. He also did a brilliant job against the Atheist+ crowd about two years ago when ElevatorGate was still relevant.
>>605DarkMatter is also great, he is probably one of the primary reasons why I abandoned deism and finally became an atheist. You should also check out his other channel DarkAntics, if you haven't already. He doesn't do many videos (he has a life) which is a shame.
GrapplingIgnorance was alright for a while, but his recent feminism videos are making me lose hope in him. I don't have a problem with feminism per se, but his thinking on the topic is quite sloppy.
KnownNoMore also has some interesting videos on Presuppositional apologetics. His older videos focus on countering Christian apologetics such as Kalam, Transcendental argument, and others. He excels at pointing out why their arguments are non-starters and has some interesting methods of approaching these topics. My only complaints would be that he has a heavy accent (I don't mind but other might) and that his recent videos focus on Materialism, which is much less interesting to me.

What do you guys think of Sargon of Akkad? I started to look into some of his stuff since he popped up in GamerGate. He dips into the ad hominems too often for my taste, but he talks about cultural and political stuff that I don't think most atheists online usually do. By which I mean British stuff. I don't think he's ever explicity identified himself as an atheist, but he's referred to religious people as believing in myths.
>>601> I do like The Drunken Peasants Podcast though.I watch it just because it's way too fucking rare to see someone comment on current events without the ridiculous bullshit that the news layers on top of everything. Ben and TJ are actually engaging hosts, even though they're drinking and blazed (ostensibly). They actually managed to host a civil debate between a feminist and an MRA.
>his imitatorsThey're the fucking worst, man. TJ is fairly intelligent. Dusty is retarded and only thinks with his feels. Jaclyn Glenn is retarded and has a fetish for beating dead horses despite being vegan. Repzion is retarded and infuriatingly inarticulate.
>>605This motherfucker is doing the most good. I find the aesthetics of his videos off-putting, but the content is always on-point.
>>367Like the other guy said, TF is good with science but grating with social issues. Even when I agree with him, which is often, it bugs me that he's not more polite about it. With science there's no reason to package the message. Science is based on criticism and anyone who actually works in science has to be tolerant of criticism. This is probably why he is like he is. Academics and regular people aren't like that. If you try to convince them that they're wrong in the same way you'd peer-review something scientific, you're going to have a bad time.

I feel like this is a good opportunity for you knuckle-dragging chucklefucks to wake up.
Ridicule is not a good idea in any context, and most of atheism consists of ridiculing things you don't agree with. It's no more correct to ridicule religion as it is to ridicule someone who thinks weed is maybe not the devil.
Most of the personality cults do very little reasoning and a lot of laughing. Dawkins openly encourage mockery. That is not reason, that is not any kind of logical debate. It's just one big fat ad hominem.
The feeling of smug, unfounded superiority is what defines your cult. Why do you think the fedora meme became a thing? Because it's funny because it's true.
Think for yourself and be open to other ideas sometime, it will make you happier than pointing and laughing.

His videos about social issues, particular transgender ones, strike me as just pushing an SJW agenda. My best friend came out as transgender about 2 years ago (before I was an atheist) and even now the topic is uncomfortable to me because I can't decide where I stand.
I get that people's perception of themselves doesn't necessarily correspond with how they are put together biologically. I get that my friend REALLY WANTS to be a woman. It just doesn't seem right to me that societies next step in this process is saying to him "well just cut your penis off then".
This especially holds for when we talk about transgender kids & them using the same bathrooms as the gender they identify with etc. Children are still developing emotionally and I'm not sure that just encouraging every thought they have about their identity is healthy. Isn't childhood and adolescence ALL ABOUT wrestling with the sort of shit about who you are and where you fit in the world? Isn't this process subject to a whole range of ups and downs throughout?
I mean fuck this is a big issue. Society seems totally comfortable with telling people if they feel they are X then they are X. There are so many facets that need to be discussed regarding transgender people in society. It really pisses me off to see someone who claims to be a skeptic just saying: "well the studies say its normal so its normal".
