New to this board and want to know the rules? Have a question for atheists? Then you should probably read the FAQ (Updated: 3/19/15). It's not necessary, but don't be surprised if people ignore you if you don't elaborate further on a question already answered here, or the moderator does something you didn't expect.

>Gnosticism
Knowledge is needed for your salvation

>Agnosticism

I-I'm not sure whether God exists or not…

Just who came up with that term?

Why did you have to ask a question that you could have looked up on wikipedia?

Wikipedia is obviously controlled by Archons and Demiurge's shills

Thomas Huxley?

Real scientists and peope who seek the truth are agnostic. They don't necessarily believe in a christian god.. This is rather extremely unlikely, but the best would be to be careful with your thinking. But if there is indeed a god, he surely does not care about us and probably hasn't got a human-like consciousness as well.

Gnosticism - Knowledge can be obtained.
Agnosticism - Knowledge cannot be obtained.

The Greeks came up with it. And technically, just about every language in the world has words that coincide with these.

Wow.

Do you know why they say that .999999… is 1. Because it's so close to 1 that it might as well be, in .99999… percent of situations, it functions almost exactly the same except for extremely precise calculations which are usually non-practical applications.

No, it's because it literally equals 1.

Suppose .999999… and 1 were not equal. Then, the difference 1 - .999999… must not equal 0. But since 1 - .999999… = .000000… = 0, this would be a contradiction. Therefore, 1 equals .999999…

Here's another proof .9999… = 1.

1) 0.999… / 9 = 0.111…
2) 1 / 9 = 0.111…
3) 1 / 9 = 0.999… / 9
4) 1 / 9 * 9 = 0.999… / 9 * 9
5) QED 1 = 0.999…
